Reason behind the closing of the IZOD Center in New Jersey

The IZOD Center in East Rutherford, New Jersey, which was to be the venue for WWE SummerSlam 2015 and all WWE events since 1981, is said to be shutting down due to the venue losing enough money. New Jersey no longer wants to run and operate it according to a report by Mike Johnson. A vote is taking place today in New Jersey and if approved by New Jersey, the IZOD Center will cease operations for a mininium of two years and all shows under contract to run the venue after March will be transferred to the Prudential Center in Newark.

If someone steps in to privately operate the IZOD Center, New Jersey would be interested, but that would not take place until 2016 once the new American Dream Mall that is set to open right next to the IZOD Center opens to the public. WWE’s last show at the IZOD Center will be a live event on 1/24, the day before the Royal Rumble.
