Former UFC fighter Chael Sonnen appeared on TSN’s Off the Record yesterday and had mentioned that he and UFC fighter Wanderlei Silva were invited to meet with the WWE over WrestleMania 31 weekend in March in California.
Sonnen on his mentioning of an invite by WWE:
“I got a call from WWE, they said, ‘Look, we have a Hall of Fame show in March. If you want to come out, we want to talk to you about some stuff.’ They laid out at that. If they are buying me a plane ticket and they’re giving me a ticket to the show, I do enjoy that product. I don’t know what we are talking about, but I’ll give you a little bit of a scoop: Wanderlei Silva was also invited. I don’t know if he’s accepted and I don’t know if the two are related, but there you go.”
Earlier today, WWE issued the following statement about Sonnen’s comments of an invite:
“There has been no invitation from WWE for Chael Sonnen to attend WrestleMania.”
