Dolph Ziggler on re-signing with WWE, Lana, the rise of NXT

Scott Fishman of the Miami Herald passed along a new interview conducted with WWE star Dolph Ziggler. Here are some excerpts from the interview:

On re-signing with WWE:

“My contract was coming up, and I was weighing a bunch of different option, I had a lot of outside offers to do some other things. Instead I decided to settle on doing the thing I love the most and working for WWE. WWE has given me an out where any days off that I have they allow me to work on outside projects. So it’s a win-win for everybody. I don’t miss any work. I get to keep doing what I love. Just like when it’s SummerSlam week, but I’m going to a comedy club to perform and the next day going to a theater to sneak in a couple of minutes because I don’t sleep and want to be the best performer I can.”

On the rise of NXT:

“NXT is exploding as a brand. It’s very in right now, you want to be an NXT fan. They sold out Barclays Center for a show. How cool is that? I’m very happy for those guys. To have them in the game is amazing. They were a developmental system in WWE and breaking out into their own brand. Now they are in the video game. If that doesn’t make them hungry and want to steal my spot, nothing will. I welcome it. I’m looking forward to it. The more challenges the better. The game is great. NXT is doing great. It’s a lot of fun.”

On his on-screen relationship with Lana and current rivalry with Rusev:

“If I was always doing my own thing, I would be bored out of my mind, you have to do something different or you are just the guy who goes out there and has a great match, but nobody cares. You have to have different layers to your character. With someone like Lana, who can add different layers, we have a story built in. We have a fake Lana. The possibilities are endless. The story is always giving me something to do and something else to sink my teeth into. Then take it to another level.”
