John Cena says doing action movies wasn’t a good fit

Thomas Golianopoulos of The New York Times is featuring an article about pro wrestlers being successful in Hollywood, including comments from WWE star John Cena talking about his role in the new film “Sisters” starring Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.

“You’ve got to remember that I’m a recurring character on a weekly episodic television show. Right away I said, ‘Yes,’ because the do-gooder John Cena is not a guy that’s going to sell you heroin.”

Tina Fey noted working with Cena was a wonderful surprise.

“His character is a guy who shows up to a party to sell us drugs, and he just opens his mouth and gave this two-minute-long list of all the kinds of drugs he had and what they did and what they could do to you — none of it was scripted. He’s just a fantastically funny improviser. If you said anything, he was perfectly ready to react to it. That was a wonderful surprise.”

Cena also noted that doing action movies early in his career “wasn’t a real good fit for me” adding that they were extremely choreographed and scripted saying it was the opposite of how he likes to work in the live atmosphere of WWE events.
