Laurie Mason Schroeder of The Morning Call is reporting that the trial for WWE Hall of Famer Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka involving the death of Snuka’s then-girlfriend Nancy Argentino has been officially delayed according to a new report.
Snuka’s attorney Robert J. Kirwan II told Lehigh County Judge Kelly L. Banach on Friday that Snuka’s mental health has been declining steadily in recent months – to the point that he doesn’t understand the charges against him or why he was arrested.
Snuka was charged back in September with third-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter in the death of Argentino back in May 1983. Kirwan informed the judge that during a recent visit to his home, Snuka didn’t even recognize him.
The trial has been delayed until 3/22 until the mental health of Snuka could be evaluted. Chief Deputy District Attorney Charles F. Gallagher told the judge he believes the court should appoint an independent mental health expert to determine if Snuka is able to stand trial on his charges. The judge noted that spending money to bring in a mental health expert may not be an option by using taxpayer money. Gallagher said police did not see the same mental issues during his arrest that Snuka’s attorney claims to have seen.
