Tony Khan talks AEW viewership, working with son of Hall of Famer

In a recent appearance on Power Players with Brian Sozzi, Tony Khan talked about the viewership of AEW Dynamite.

Touting the success of the program’s simulcast on HBO Max alongside its weekly airing on TBS, the company president stated:

Two years ago, we weren’t streaming on HBO Max yet. So the viewership now, the true viewership is actually much higher because not only do we have the TBS viewers, but also we have streaming viewership. So in reality, this is the hottest and most viewers we’ve had in a long time, if [not] ever. And it feels like the excitement around AEW today is at an all-time high.

The conversation comes after Dynamite drew its best viewership of the year for the 7/15 edition, with the actual viewership being higher due to the simulcast.

That exact data is unclear, however, as the viewership numbers on the streaming platform for the simulcast have not been made publicly available as of this writing.

Khan also talked about working with Steven Borden Jr., son of Professional Wrestling Hall of Famer Sting:

We’re training Sting’s son, Steven, right now. He wrestles before all the shows in what we call the ‘dark match.’ And I think he’s going to be a tremendous wrestler. I’m really, really proud of the work he’s doing.

In addition to dark matches for AEW, Borden has competed for Defy Wrestling and Maple Leaf Pro, with his brother Garrett recently making a similar path through the independent scene.
