On the 7/30 edition of AEW Collision, the company officially announced the Continental Cup tournament in the spirit of the Football Association Challenge Cup (FA Cup) presented by English football.
The single-elimination tournament will see sixteen competitors vie in matches contested under Continental Rules for the right to hold the Continental Cup and win the AEW Continental Championship coming out of All In at Wembley Stadium.
One interesting aspect of the tournament is that all matches during the tournament (presumably aside from the final) will be made at random.
The 8/8 edition of Collision will kick off the Round of 16, with the following names having been revealed this week on Dynamite and Collision:
- AEW Continental Champion Jon Moxley
- Orange Cassidy
- Kyle O’Reilly
- Roderick Strong
- Nigel McGuinness
The new tournament appears to be a summertime complement to the Continental Classic, which crowned the inaugural Continental Championship.
A selection special for the Continental Cup was later announced for Monday, August 2 airing on AEW’s YouTube channel and social media.
