Update on contract talks between MJF and AEW

According to Fightful Select, MJF and AEW are not close to terms on a new deal.

Fightful Select further notes MJF and AEW have not had any ‘outright negotiations’ and that Tony Khan ‘would be willing to pay’ MJF comparable to other top stars. There have been some reports that MJF wants to test the free agent market. MJF’s contract is set to expire in 2024. It has been part of promos he has done on AEW television. MJF has said that he wants to be the highest paid star in professional wrestling and will go where the money is.

We previously reported, MJF was “leaning towards leaving AEW” after his contract expires. It is being said WWE has already showed interest in MJF.

MJF is scheduled to square off with Wardlow at the Double Or Nothing PPV on May 29. If MJF wins, Wardlow can “never sign a contract” with AEW. If Wardlow wins, MJF “must release Wardlow from his contract.” However, Wardlow must first complete the stipulations for the match to take place that include MJF will delivering ten hits with a belt directly to Wardlow’s back with a belt, and Wardlow taking on Shawn Spears in a steel cage match, with MJF as the special guest referee.
