Backstage updates on CM Punk’s WWE return, potential feud plans

A report from PWInsider has given some insight on CM Punk’s return to WWE, most notably his promo on the 11/28 edition of RAW.

According to the report, there was an initial plan for the promo to go longer but time was cut due to issues that led to the match between Randy Orton and Dominik Mysterio running longer than planned.

PWInsider goes on to report that a number of people backstage at RAW were “waiting to see which CM Punk showed up,” though it was noted that he spent time talking to quite a few people before the show.

Meanwhile, Sports Illustrated has reported that WWE has plans for a feud between Punk and Reigns, though that will certainly not be the first feud for the former WWE Champion, who appears to be slated for a feud with current World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins upon his return:

A feud between Rollins and Punk is a massive positive for both men. Punk can still wrestle at a high-level, but his work will only be enhanced in the ring with a world-class wrestler like Rollins.

While it is not the current favorite, there is plenty of reason to believe Punk-Rollins could serve as the main event for the opening night of WrestleMania 40. For Rollins, that would simply not be the case without Punk.

Per F4WOnline, the plan for WrestleMania 40 appears to be Reigns defending the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship against Cody Rhodes.
