During his latest Kliq This podcast, WWE Hall of Famer Kevin Nash congratulated Sami Zayn on becoming the new Undisputed WWE Champion.
Nash said that Zayn worked hard, watched his political stance, jumped through hoops, and persevered. He also said that even though pro wrestling is a work, when a talent wins the world championship, it means the higher-ups have enough trust in you to be the face of the company for as long as the company decides to keep you as champion.
“Until you become World Champion, you don’t know what it’s like to be a World Champion. And when they hand you that belt for the first time, it’s as real as our sports entertainment will get. So I know that you had that feeling because I got it in Madison Square Garden. And it’s special because we all, in some form or fashion, watched this business as kids. And even though it’s a work and it’s this and it’s that, it’s still the pinnacle. And with that strap, belt, championship, whatever the f— they want to call it, it signifies, if nothing else, somebody that they trust in and put in a position to — whether it be a month, a week, 10 years — to be the face of the company. So congratulations, Sami.”
Nash also praised Cody Rhodes for dropping the title to Zayn, saying that Rhodes has no problem putting anyone over.
“It just tells me volumes about Cody. You know, Cody has no problem putting anybody over.”
Zayn won the Undisputed WWE Title at Night of Champions in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on June 27, in a triple threat match against Rhodes and Gunther, after pinning Rhodes. Zayn defends the title on tonight’s WWE Raw against Rhodes, after defeating Jey Uso in a No. 1 Contender’s match on last Friday’s taped episode of SmackDown.
