Open the Freedom Gate
Kendrick cuts a (rather curious and bizarre) post-match promo about how he wrestles for himself and no one else. Bryce comes out to get him out of the ring followed by Cole & O’Reilly. Moxley out and takes the mic. Segment ends with Kendrick & Moxley attacking the other wrestlers.
This was the best singles match of the night, with most of us thinking it couldn’t be topped…which it was later on)
This blow-away match topped YAMATO-Richards and was definitely a Match of The Year contender. Crowd was white-hot for this match, as they tore things up with multiple double team spots. Definitely worth buying the PPV for this match alone
Elimination #1 – YAMATO defeated CIMA with roll-up preceded by Akuma low blow
Elimination #2 – BxB Hulk defeated Gran Akuma via pinfall
~BxB Hulk pinned YAMATO to become the 1st Open the Freedom Gate Champion
Davey Richards is immediately out to challenge BxB Hulk and attacks him! Dragon Kid makes the save.
NOTES: While there was nothing disappointing in the show itself…(again, worth buying the PPV for the Doi-Yoshino/Dragon Kid/SHINGO tag match alone, let alone YAMATO-Richards); I had to be disappointed in the contribution of the DGUSA crowd to the Toys for Tots collection. With the cost of seats for this show, this was not a crowd that lacked money, so their lack of response was perplexing.
The crowd’s attitude toward CZW (when their sale of Cage of Death tickets was announced) also stunk. Despite Gabe Sapolsky’s best efforts to tell the crowd to turn down their smarkiness, it reared its head more than once last night, including at DGUSA’s own ring crew at one point.
