Kevin Wong of Complex Magazine is featuring an interview former WWE star turned UFC fighter Phil “CM Punk” Brooks discussing his expected UFC debut later this summer.
During the interview, Wong asked Punk if he was “anxious or intimidated” in making the transition from pro wrestling to MMA. Wong described Punk’s answer as “testy” and that his “tone gets sharper” as similar questions like this are asked about his MMA debut.
Below is an exerpt from the interview including Punk’s responses.
CM Punk: “I get this question a lot, and it’s like you guys think I’m an idiot. Like I didn’t know MMA wasn’t pre-determined or something like that. Have you ever tweeted at me, ‘Hey, do you know what you’re getting into?’”
Kevin Wong: “I never have.”
Punk: “Okay. It sounds like you might have.”
Wong: “I don’t mean to put you on the defensive…”
Punk: “I’m not on the defensive. Your question is insulting. You’re asking me if I know the difference between the WWE and the UFC?”
Wong: “That’s not what I’m asking.”
Punk: “That’s exactly what you’re asking. You say my fans say that? You’re mistaken. My fans do not say that. I wouldn’t say anything to them [my critics]. I don’t justify stupidity with an answer. I don’t give a shit what anybody thinks of me, whether I’m going to fight or not. I know what I’m going to do. If I did anything in my life based on someone’s negative opinion on me, I would never .ing leave my house. My fans are people who don’t tweet negative shit at me.”
Wong noted at the end of the interview that Punk pointed towards his recorder seeming to be nervous that he would “edit the tape and run a hatchet job on him.” He revealed that Punk shook his hand, gave him a pat on the back and a handler for Punk told him that Punk has “no interest in talking to me ever again.”
