Great Championship Wrestling results for August 21 in Phenix City, AL, at the Gr8 Sk8 Plex with a reported attendance of approximately 200: GCW Tag Team Champions The Merchants of Death (with Wicked Nemesis) defeated GCW Interstate Champion J-Rod & Tex Monroe. Sonny Siaki pinned Scotty Beach. "That 80's Guy" John Bogie & Kareem Abdul Jamar defeated Mike Stratus & Princeton Gainey III. Cru Jones & GCW Tag Team Champions The Merchants of Death (both subbing for Shaun Banks) defeated Bull Buchanan & Micah Taylor. Tracy Taylor (with Micah Taylor) pinned Johnny Swinger (with Quentin Michaels). Cru Jones attacked Micah Taylor before the main event and handcuffed him to the bottom rope during the match, but Micah distracted Swinger allowing Tracy to get the win. After the match, Swinger hit a piledriver on Tracy before Micah was able to free himself and run Swinger off.

GCW has severed ties with David Young. He had been one of the company's top stars dating back to 2004 when Young and Sonny Siaki became the first GCW Tag Team Champions. Young held the tag titles on four different occasions with four different partners. Young was also a two-time GCW Heavyweight Champion. The company officially wished Young the best of luck in his future endeavors.

Young said the termination of his relationship with GCW stemmed from his being taken off last night's show as he was driving to the building. Young stated that he called Johnny Swinger at 5pm en route from a Wednesday night booking in Corbin, KY, to inform GCW that he was going to be late. GCW talent is expected to be at the building by 6pm for a 7:30 bell time. He was scheduled to do a run in, which was to take place in the second match. Young said he then texted at 7pm stating he was getting onto 185. He got a call back from Swinger informing him that Quentin Michaels had taken him off the show. Young responded that he was done with the company and therefore, would not be doing the Tables, Ladders and Chairs at the Fred Ward Memorial on September 4.

Negotiations to reconcile the dispute were unsuccessful. Young offered to do the TLC match this coming Thursday as his blowoff, if he was also paid for the booking last night. GCW declined that offer. “There’s no hard feelings. It’s just bad business. Business is business,” said Young. "I love Diane (Hewes) to death. I hope to do something with GCW in the future. I just can't do business like that.”

There will be a free wrestling event for the Bartow County Relay for Life at Dellinger Park in Cartersville, GA, on September 5. Matches will begin at 7:45 PM. Advertised: Scott Prater versus the Nightmare; Chris Emerson versus Seth Cruise; Terry Lawler & Air Paris versus John Arden & Mark Pain; a three-way featuring Chris Lightning, Lamar Phillips, and Chris Ganz; and battle royal action. Call (678) 767-3822 for more information. You are asked to bring a blanket or lawn chair.

Ultimate Christian Wrestling returns from hiatus at the Pike County Assembly of God in Zebulon, GA, on October 25 with a 7:00pm bell time. Admission is free. Advertised on the card will be Colt Derringer vs. Sal Rinauro for the UCW Heavyweight Championship, Kyle Matthews Defends the UCW National Championship against J.T. Talent, Jeremy Vain & Adrian Hawkins defend the UCW Tag Team Championship against Dustin Powers & Josh Storm, Frankie Valentine faces Rob Adonis. There will be also be an Ultimate Rumble.
