On Monday, May 22, 2006 at 11:42 PM EST Welcome to this week's edition of the Armpit quiz. One of the strengths of ECW was how they were able to use very popular copyrighted theme music right on their broadcasts and PPVs. How they were able to do that still remains a mystery to me. I’ve heard a few explanations for it, but nothing I’d consider credible. If you know, please tell me.
But ECW won’t have that luxury now. And since theme music plays a big part in the overall wrestling production, let’s do a quiz on it this week, ECW style. We now present, “ECW Theme Music.” Thanks to quiz taker Duane Radmore for inspiring this idea.
Last week's winner:
Jamie Green, plugging his band Yesterday’s News at www.yesterdaysnewsmusic.com.
Last week's answers: (Click here) for last week's questions.
-Hogan turned heel at Bash at the Beach ’96 by leg-dropping Randy Savage.
-In that angle, Ole turned heel on Dusty Rhodes.
-In 1990, Ole kicked Sting out of the 4 Horsemen.
-Austin turned heel at WrestleMania 17. What a dumb idea.
-At WrestleWar ’89, Terry Funk acted as a judge.
-Hogan placed his hand on Liz’s butt at SummerSlam ’88.
-In the late 90s, Dusty turned heel and joined the nWo. It didn’t work.
Here are this week's questions. Please email your answers to Quiz@ArmpitWrestling.com. The first person to get all the correct answers to me will be declared the winner and have his/her name listed next week along with anything he/she wants to plug. Remember, once you win, you cannot win again for 3 more weeks. We're not calling this the "Dr. Keith Rule" again until Keith subscribes to Sirius satellite radio, which is an inside joke that should be kept outside, but we're putting it inside anyway.
Question #1
1. RVD’s ECW theme music was edited so that it replayed the chorus over and over again. Kind of annoying, because it got old after 30 seconds, and they would’ve been better off keeping the original so as to make the chorus more special. Name this song and the band who performed it.
Question #2
2. “Balls to the Wall” by Accept might have been a better fit, but Balls Mahoney used a different song. Name the song and band.
Question #3
3. DDP had to use a Pearl Jam knock-off song for his entrance in WCW, but Tommy Dreamer got to use the real thing. What Pearl Jam song did Tommy use for years?
Question #4
4. Here’s an easy one. Name the song and band who performed the Sandman’s theme music.
Question #5
5. During the initial Raven character development stage, he came to the ring to what Offspring song?
Question #6
6. Paul Heyman compared early 90s WWF/WCW to 80s hair bands, yet ECW used plenty of “hair bands” in their music like Jackyl, Ugly Kid Joe, AC/DC, Pantera, and Fight. Kind of hypocritical, eh Paul E.?? Lots of ‘80s metalheads populated the ECW locker room like Chris Jericho, Blue Meanie, Nova, Stevie Richards, Raven, Jerry Lynn, Matty in the House, and of course Heyman himself. It’s that rock n roll element that is missing from squeaky-clean ROH, and I wish they’d change that. But amidst all that rock music, the soft and jazzy theme music from this 90s hit movie closed out many ECW TV shows in 1995 that recapped all the feuds and ran in the background of the show-closing promos.
Question #7
7. Spike Dudley’s LSD gimmick complemented his entrance music perfectly. Name the song and band.
Question #8
8. Public Enemy were white rappers, so they came to the ring using a rap song. During their 1994/1995 heyday, Rocco Rock and Johnny Grunge had the fans’ hands waving to what song?
Question #9
9. Very early ECW saw a music video called “Ruffneck” used to promote this former WCW/WWE wrestler. His nickname was also the “Rough Neck,” and he wrestled with sunglasses. Name him.
Question #10
10. This Guns N Roses song, not surprisingly, was often used to promote ECW’s infamous November to Remember shows. Since the show was in NOVEMBER, it makes sense that Heyman chose this Guns N Roses song to promote it with. Name the song.
Security Code
11. Please write down this week’s security code in order to verify that you saw this quiz on WrestleView.com. This week’s code is "SMACKDOWN." Any emails we receive that do not contain this code will not be eligible to win.
12. In case you win, please tell us how you'd like to list your name and plug. Due to time constraints, you will not be notified if you win, and instead will have to wait until next week when the winning name is posted. If you're playing just for fun and don't care about winning, you don't have to answer this question.
Please email your answers to Quiz@ArmpitWrestling.com. Results will be posted next week. Thanks to everyone for playing.
