On Thursday, July 20, 2006 at 10:35 AM EST Welcome to this week's edition of the Armpit wrestling quiz. We’re a day late again, but get used to it because it’s going to be this way for the next 2 months. For the record, Mrs. Wrestling Professor has promised me we are NEVER moving again after this. You guys are my witnesses. Three big moves in two years is enough to drive anyone insane.
Reader Duane Radmore had another good idea for a quiz this week, which is “Masks.” If you have good ideas for quizzes, please let us know because it’s hard to come up with new ideas every week.
Last week's winner:
Eric “Romdogg74” Rom, who wants to plug himself as being, “The only one with the “RIGHT” opinion.”
Last week's answers: (Click here) for last week's questions.
-At GAB ’90, the Midnight Express wrestled the Southern Boys.
-Bash ’91 was in Baltimore, MD, as were many of the Bashes. Back in the day, Baltimore was a great town for WCW/NWA, but those days are gone. Very sad.
-Vader pinned Sting with the powerbomb.
-Flair wrestled Randy Savage at GAB ‘95.
-The new Horseman at GAB ’96 was Steve McMichael. Great show.
Here are this week's questions. Please email your answers to Quiz@ArmpitWrestling.com. The first person to get all the correct answers to me will be declared the winner and have his/her name listed next week along with anything he/she wants to plug. Remember, once you win, you cannot win again for 3 more weeks.
Question #1
1. In the 1980s, this wrestler donned a mask and took the name the Midnight Rider. Who was he?
Question #2
2. In the tradition of the Midnight Rider, Hulk Hogan did a similar angle in 2002 on SmackDown. Hogan wore a mask, pretended not to be Hogan, and used what ring name?
Question #3
3. The Black Scorpion angle was the major angle in WCW in the year 1990. Conceived by booker Ole Anderson, it was a mixed bag when it comes to results. TV ratings were way up for the peak of the angle, but as usual when it came to WCW, they didn't deliver. Texas mid-carder Al Perez played the role of the Black Scorpion in one match, and another guy played the Scorpion in another. "Another guy" is an insulting way to describe this man, because he is a legend. He also was forced to cut his hair for this angle, and the short hair really took the edge off him in 1991 after the angle ended. Who was he?
Question #4
4. Mid-South Wrestling; if you never saw it, I feel sorry for you. Vince McMahon wants to purchase the Mid-South library, and I hope he uses it one day, because in the 80s they produced the best TV show in the country. Bill Watts was in charge of the TV back then, and one of his biggest stars once wore a mask and wrestled by the name Stagger Lee in a famous angle. Lee, of course, was really what wrestler?
Question #5
5. I remember being in the 4th grade and watching WWF Superstars in 1986 and the introduction of the Machines. It was funny how the Giant Machine's manager tried to deny the Machine was really the guy he obviously was. There is no way you can hide the identity of a guy this size. The Giant Machine was really what legendary wrestler?
Question #6
6. In the early 90s, I was one of many 5 people on the West Coast who watched WCW very closely. They virtually never toured California, and if they did, I was too young to drive. So of course when I leave and go to college in the East Coast, WCW explodes and tours California all the time. One notable PPV was SuperBrawl '98 at the Cow Palace, in which what trouble-making luchador lost his mask?
Question #7
7. Speaking of luchadores, Diamond Dallas Page once pretended to be one on a memorable angle on Nitro in 1997. During the match, DDP was so good (believe it or not, DDP was red-hot in 1997 and a tremendous wrestler), that everybody watching thought it was the real luchador DDP was pretending to be. What cult favorite WCW luchador was DDP pretending to be in this match?
Security Code
8. Please write down this week’s security code in order to verify that you saw this quiz on WrestleView.com. This week’s code is “SCOTT ARMSTRONG.” Any emails we receive that do not contain this code will not be eligible to win.
9. In case you win the quiz, let us know how you want your name mentioned and also what you want to plug (if anything).
Please email your answers to Quiz@ArmpitWrestling.com. Results will be posted next week. Thanks to everyone for playing.
