On Monday, July 24, 2006 at 12:15 PM EST Welcome to this week's edition of the Armpit wrestling quiz. We don’t normally accept quiz questions from readers, but since we’re so busy, we figured, “What the Hell.” This week’s quiz comes from Canadian reader Jeffery Diamond. Jeff feels Canada needs more representation in these quizzes, and he’s probably right. A good percentage of our quiz-takers are from Canada, so it’s a good idea. This week’s quiz is based on, “Canada.”
These quiz questions are Jeff’s, NOT mine. Please direct all praise and/or criticism toward Jeff for these questions. I warn you, they’re quite a bit harder than my usual questions.
Last week's winner:
Will Bowers. Will has a mortgage business and a MySpace page, but declined to give us the links. Will, if you’d like to send us the links, I’ll post them next week.
Last week's answers: (Click here) for last week's questions.
-The Midnight Rider was Dusty Rhodes.
-Hulk Hogan was Mr. America.
-The Black Scorpion was Ric Flair.
-Stagger Lee was the Junkyard Dog. Koko Ware also used that name, and though that was not the answer we were thinking of, we accepted that answer from people who wrote it.
-The Giant Machine was Andre the Giant.
-At SuperBrawl ’98, Juventud Guerrera lost his mask.
-DDP pretended to be La Parka.
Here are this week's questions. Please email your answers to Quiz@ArmpitWrestling.com. The first person to get all the correct answers to me will be declared the winner and have his/her name listed next week along with anything he/she wants to plug. Remember, once you win, you cannot win again for 3 more weeks.
Question #1
1. Many people don't know that the first Royal Rumble was held in Hamilton, Ontario in 1988 and only had 20 participants. During this event, this wrestler, who today is known for saving Eugene's keister recently, defeated One Man Gang to win the Rumble, who is he?
Question #2
2. WrestleMania 6 is fresh in my mind, not because I have the Hulk Hogan- Ultimate Warrior main event on my computer but because of the location: Toronto which is 1.5 hours from my house. Anyway, one of the titles up for grabs was the tag titles as Demolition (Ax & Smash) beat this tag team to retake the belts, who were they?
Question #3
3. Another match at WrestleMania 6 was a grudge match between Ted DiBiase and Jake "The Snake" Roberts. DiBiase's Million Dollar Belt was swiped by Roberts and if he won, the belt goes back to him. As it turned out, who won the match, by what method and who ended up with the belt?
Question #4
4. In 1995, some of us remember the Ladder Match for the IC tile between HBK Shawn Michaels and Razor Ramon. But however, in October of that year, the WWE did a house show in Winnipeg and the title actually changed hands twice. Who ended up winning the belt for good, who did he beat and who forfeited the title due to unknown reasons?
Question #5
5. We come to 1997 and (shudder) Survivor Series in Montreal. Although some of the matches were typical 4 on 4, there was another change of hands on a title. Owen Hart was the IC holder but he ended up losing to this wrestler who was on his way to putting the "Attitude" label on the WWE. Who was he?
Question #6
6. We come to the Montreal Screwjob and we know that HBK won the match over Bret Hart and Bret left for WCW and that propelled Vince McMahon to become a heel and to drop announcing duties. What "vile" act did HBK perform before the match? All Canadian fans would know.
Question #7
7. The next main event in Canada was in Toronto, but it was WrestleMania 18. By 2002, the WWE and WCW fought to destroy each other and WWE won but they had 2 belts for the champion to become "Undisputed" Champion. Anyway before that, there was the icon match. Hulk Hogan and The Rock were involved and it was a classic. The Rock won but it came at a price, which two fighters beat up on Hogan after the match?
Question #8
8. The main event at that WrestleMania was the match between Chris Jericho and Triple H for the belts. Triple H was injured almost a year prior because he twisted his quad and he wanted the belt. Oddly enough, Stephanie McMahon escorted Y2J to the ring. It sounds stupid but who won?
Question #9
9. At No Way Out 2003 in Montreal, the ref who screwed Bret Hart, Earl Hebner did the title match between Triple H and Scott Steiner in which Triple H won. However, the main event was yet another Rock-Hogan match. In that match, the lights went out and a ref actually handed the Rock a chair to beat on Hogan. Who was the ref and who beat on Hogan after the match this time?
Question #10
10. Backlash 2004 was in Edmonton and one of the matches was an all-Canadian born handicap match even though one person was hailed from New York. Who were the combatants?
Question #11
11. That PPV was also known for the IC title match that involved Randy Orton and Mick Foley that involved hardcore material. Orton won and then in the world title match, Chris Benoit, HHH and HBK Shawn Michaels were fighting, just like WrestleMania XX. Who won over Shawn Michaels and with what patented move?
Question #12
12. SummerSlam of 2004 was in Toronto and had some interesting matches. Kane got the right to marry a "pregnant" Lita by beating Matt Hardy, John Cena won his match over Booker T wearing a Blue Jays shirt (I should know, I have the DVD) and we saw Eugene almost beating HHH had it not been for Ric Flair. In the WWE title match, the Undertaker lost to JBL by DQ but that didn't stop him from doing something harsh to him. What did Undertaker do after the match?
Question #13
13. That PPV also saw Chris Benoit defending his Heavyweight title against Randy Orton and losing, making Orton the youngest champion in history. What struck me more about the PPV was that a non-title match that was the same as WrestleMania XX was sure to be the match of the night. Who was involved in this match, who won and by what maneuver?
