The Wrestling Professor's Weekly Quiz (May 5, 2008 - Wrestlers in Hollywood)

Welcome to the Armpit wrestling quiz for the week of May 5, 2008. Happy Cinco de Mayo. I'm writing this well before May 5, but my prediction is that shortly after you read this, you're going to see Clinton, Obama, and McCain on TV saying something positive about this holiday and somehow celebrating it. You have to pity Presidential candidates sometimes, because they have to appeal to everyone, and that's simply impossible. There are roughly 300 million people in this country, each of us with different opinions on who should lead this country, and there's no way anyone can win everyone over. But it's hilarious to watch them try, including popping up on my TV while watching, of all things, wrestling. And it's only going to get worse.
With John Cena in the middle of filming his next movie, it's a good time to go back and look at the history of pro wrestlers in movies. Let's now begin this week's quiz, "Wrestlers in Hollywood."
Answers from last week:
-Flair campaigned for Bush Sr in 1992. That was quite the fascinating race, with Perot leading the polls at one point and Clinton dead last.
-Jesse Ventura was the Mayor of Brooklyn Park, MN.
-As Clinton was running for his 2nd term in 1996, the nWo was starting to take off (as was WCW in general).
-Jesse Ventura and Arnold Schwarzenegger did "The Predator" together. That was the answer I had in mind, but lots of you wrote in to tell me that there were, in fact, other movies they did together. I'm no movie buff and I apologize for the error. The other movies were "Running Man" and "Batman and Robin."
-Jimmy Carter's favorite wrestler was Mr. Wrestling II.
-Al Gore has the privilege of hearing his name every time Rhino goes for his finisher. Speaking of Gore, he once visited my place of work in early 2000, which was a well known DSL company (after all, Gore invented the internet, you know). I had given notice the month before and never ended up seeing him. Too bad, because I would've made sure to blast the song "Ode to Tipper Gore," which is a reference only you long-time metalheads would get.
-Rev. Wright's character is very similar to the hold Reverend Slick character.
-Val Venis is a Libertarian.
Here are this week's questions. Remember, the new rules are that you no longer need to submit your questions, and no winners will be declared. We're just doing this for fun and to honor the forgotten world of wrestling history.
1. The first movie under WWE Films, starring Kane, did surprisingly well. Part of that was the smart marketing gimmick of constantly repeating the opening date of the film as part of a television angle. What was this date?
2. Roddy Piper earned kudos for his work in the John Carpenter directed film "They Live." What was the name of Piper's character in this film?
3. Name 3 wrestlers who appeared in Adam Sandler's "The Longest Yard."
4. I just saw "Gridiron Gang" a couple months ago and liked it a lot. This movie is based on a true story of what sports team?
5. Andre the Giant was fabulously charming in 1987's "The Princess Bride." How was Andre defeated in this movie (foreshadowing MMA moves years later)?
6. What Chris Rock movie did Jeff Jarrett briefly appear in during 2002?
7. Name the wrestler who appeared in 1994's critically acclaimed "Ed Wood."
8. "THIS IS ROLLERBALL!!!!" is a famous line from the "Rollerball" movie, shouted by what pro wrestling personality?
9. Name the dopey movie from 2000 that starred several WCW wrestlers and former WCW champ David Arquette.
10. "Man on the Moon" starred Jerry Lawler, and was the story of what deceased comedian?
Answers will be posted next week.
