The Wrestling Professor sent this in:

Welcome to the Armpit wrestling quiz for the week of June 30, 2008.

It has now been 53 weeks since the biggest news story in pro wrestling history: the Benoit triple murder/suicide. Where were you when you heard the news? It’s an awfully hard thing to forget, and it took a few months for me to, as my wife put it, “get out of the funk” I was in. She couldn’t comprehend my sadness and disbelief, which is understandable; how could the average person be expected to understand just how talented Chris Benoit was and what a shock this whole thing was? We will never experience a story like that in our lifetimes, and if we don’t, that’s a good thing.

This week’s quiz will examine “The Chris Benoit Tragedy.”

Answers from last time:

-The idea for One Night Stand reportedly came from RVD.

-Pitbull #1 introduced that video tribute to the fallen ECW stars. One of those stars was his former tag team partner, Pitbull #2.

-Blue Meanie had written about JBL on the internet, calling him a bully, based on Meanie’s days in WWE during the last wrestling boom. JBL got upset about that and let loose in the ring.

-Meanie had every right to sue WWE, and should’ve done so. Instead, he agreed to return to WWE for a few matches, including a match with JBL on SmackDown. He was assured there would be no funny business, but JBL was pretty stiff in that match. Stevie Richards delivered an awfully stiff chair shot to JBL as a “receipt,” which was quite the death wish on Stevie’s part. Meanie was paid well for these matches, and he claims it got him out of his financial hole. Of course, after those matches, WWE kicked Meanie to the curb, which he complained about online. Look, there’s a valuable lesson to be learned here, and one which I learned as a kid in grade school: if you can’t back it up, shut your f*cking mouth.

-Paul Heyman told JBL that the only reason JBL was SmackDown champ was that HHH doesn’t like to work on Tuesdays. Interesting comment in light of last week’s draft. The three words Heyman had for Edge were “Matt frickin’ Hardy.”

-RVD won the title from John Cena at ONS ’06 after interference from Edge.

-During that match, the famous fan sign was “If Cena wins, we riot.” That’s funny, but still not the best sign I ever saw. That distinction goes to ECW’s Sign Guy in 1994. After Sandman’s wife/valet, Peaches, got breast implants, Sign Guy came up with a real zinger of a sign: “ECW Fruit Salad: Peaches with Melons.”

-Cena vs. Khali was a Falls Count Anywhere match, the match Cactus Jack made famous in early 90s WCW.

-ONS ’07 took place from Jacksonville, Florida.

-Randy Orton suffered a broken collar bone at ONS ’08.

Here are this week's questions. Remember, the new rules are that you no longer need to submit your questions, and no winners will be declared. We're just doing this for fun and to honor the forgotten world of wrestling history.

1. Chris Benoit committed the murders over the course of a weekend. On that weekend, what WWE PPV was taking place?

2. It’s easy to understand Chris’ depression, since so many of his close friends had died in recent years (why this made him kill his family isn’t quite as easy to understand). Eddy Guerrero, Johnny Grunge, Badnews Allen, Sherri Martel, and countless others passed away, and obviously this had an effect on him. It is not believed he was aware that another person close to him had also passed away just days before his own suicide. This person teamed up with Chris in his WCW debut at Clash of the Champions in June of ’92, and was also a friend from his Stampede days. Who was this person?

3. Somewhere out there is a diary that Chris Benoit kept. No one knows where it is, which is puzzling. There were a couple of pages found, which the police have seen and Michael Benoit has commented on. Where did police find these pages?

4. One TV newsperson was obviously uninformed on the story (in her defense, she quickly learned and redeemed herself) and asked a guest if Benoit was despondent over the fact that he was demoted “From the Horsemen to Raw.” The whole tragedy is sad, but that line made me bust up laughing. So funny on so many levels. Who said that line?

5. Bill O’Reilly took a lot of heat for what some took as his blaming Nancy “Woman” Benoit for the murders. He didn’t blame her, of course. He simply asked why Nancy stuck with a guy who had a history of domestic abuse. I’m not quite sure why O’Reilly got heat for that, because it’s a perfectly reasonable question. If you’re in a relationship with someone abusive, then get out. That’s why you’re supposed to work hard, go to school, and get a good job in life, because you should never have to depend on anyone /* to live. In what year was there a documented case of domestic abuse by Chris against Nancy? When news of that incident came out, virtually everyone was shocked by it.

6. When police arrived at Benoit’s home for the first time, why did they ask Benoit’s neighbor to go in there first?

7. Boy did WWE look stupid when they tried to blame Daniel Benoit’s supposed disability for the stress Chris was feeling at home. It came out later that no one was aware that Daniel had such a condition, including his family, teachers, friends, and neighbors. Oops. WWE, so quick to critique the press for blaming steroids and roid rage for the murders, was now quickly blaming a disease that Daniel may not have had. Name the disability that many people believed Daniel Benoit suffered from.

8. WWE proudly bragged that Chris Benoit had “passed” his last steroid test. Of course, “passing” WWE’s steroid test means it is possible he tested positive for steroids but got away with it because of the Wellness Policy’s infamous loophole. Of course, his home was also filled with steroids and records show he had been receiving them for months. Of course, Chris was muscular (and had been for two decades) far beyond he could have ever been if he was drug free. Explain what the notorious Wellness Policy loophole, which still exists, is.

9. Just before Benoit’s autopsy results were in, one wrestler went on Greta Van Sustren’s show and made a complete fool of himself. He said that as far as he knew, Benoit was clean and that if the autopsy results showed otherwise, then maybe Chris took a bunch of steroids right before he died. What an ass. Name the nincompoop who went on Greta’s show and said this.

10. Do any of you have primary care physicians who live over an hour away from your home? Didn’t think so. Then again, none of you need a mark doctor who is well known in your state for being a “steroid doctor,” which is the exact reason Benoit (and many other wrestlers who didn’t even live in Georgia) went to that doctor. Who was Benoit’s doctor?

Answers will be posted next time.
