PPV Predictions: TNA Lockdown 2011

Predictions from the Faculty
TNA Lockdown Edition
April 17, 2011
Predictions by: Wrestleview Columnists and Staff
Written by: Anthony J. Valvo of Wrestleview.com

Introduction

Welcome to the latest edition of “Predictions from the Faculty” (Season #3). This weekend, we gathered our thoughts for the upcoming TNA Pay-Per-View, as we will provide our selections for TNA Lockdown 2011, the only Pay-Per-View for any promotion in which all the matches will be contested inside the steel cage. The show will be held in Cincinnati, OH.

The card currently will have eight matches. I will not be counting the Pre-Show Match between Anarquia and Brother DeVon, as though it is on the card it will not be on the main card for Lockdown

In case you are new to reading these predictions, here is the format. Each Pay-Per-View a few of the columnists on WrestleView provide predictions on who they think will win the matches. We accumulate throughout the end of the Faculty’s year (in this case, the 2012 Royal Rumble).

What makes this entirely different to others is that you, the reader, can provide your picks for a spot to have yours posted in an upcoming PPV. All the readers have to do is either leave me a message on Facebook or e-mail at mistervwv@hotmail.com. The winner among the “WrestleView Students” will win an opportunity to post their picks under the “Student of the Week” tab in the predictions standings (if they outright defeat the Students of the Week). We all thank you for your participation.

New: Tie-Breakers will determine standings!

I have decided to prevent some tiebreakers, I will issue points to Title Matches that are predicted correctly. There are two championship matches on the card, so the maximum amount of points to go along with the win/loss standing will be two points. Also, if I throw out a pick for a championship, then obviously no bonus will be counted for that particular match.

But what, to the WrestleView “students”, there is more!

I got approval for this decision, and for the FIRST time in our three seasons the students will compete for PRIZES!!! That is right, we felt that your loyalty to the article shall be rewarded. However, the prizes will not be handed out until the FINAL PPV Prediction of the season (which will be WWE’s Royal Rumble 2012). So not only will one get a chance to earn a Gold Star and be a part of this game, but it will be for a competition.

The Wrestleview Staff Standings

Last PPV, Mike Tedesco was on top of the WrestleView Universe and controlled sole possession of the title “Dean of WrestleView”. The bad news was that he went a disappointing 3-5 on predictions for WrestleMania. However, the good news is that pretty much everyone else (with the exemption of Darragh O’Connor) either finished 4-4 or worse so there was not many movers and shakers after WrestleMania was at an end. Right now, there is no room for error for Dean Tedesco, as now he has to battle current Dean of WrestleView Dave Stephens for the top spot. Also with Josh Boutwell, Ryan Rivera, and others within two victories from the top it should make for a good bit of competition for at least the next few months.

2011-2012 Predictions From the Faculty Roster

1) Mike Tedesco (WWE Smackdown and WWE Superstar Recaps)……….18-9 (3-5)
2) Dave Stephens (Raw Recaps/That’s a Wrap/Teachers Lounge)……….18-9 (4-4)
3) Josh Boutwell (TNA Impact Recaps/Viva La Raza)……………………………17-10 (2-6)
4) Ryan Rivera (ROH on HDNet Recaps)…………………………………………………17-10 (3-5)
5) WrestleView Students (The Readers of the article)……………………………..17-10 (4-4)
6) Matt O’Brien (Notes from the Nosebleeds)…………………………………………16-11 (4-4)
7) Nicholas Gray (The Velvet Room)……………………………………………………….16-11 (4-4)
8) Jose Marrero (Wrestling Rumblings/The Eye Gouge)………………………….16-10 (4-3)
9) Anthony Valvo (From the Desk of Mr. V/Teacher’s Lounge)……………….15-12 (2-6)
10) Greg McNeish (The Velvet Room)……………………………………………………..15-12 (3-5)
11) Evan O’Brien (WV International Desk)………………………………………………..14-13 (3-5)
12) Gregory “Grash” Walek (WWE NXT Recapper)…………………………………….14-13 (3-5)
13) Clinton Bowman (The Velvet Room)……………………………………………………14-13 (4-4)
14) Darragh O’Connor (WV International Desk)……………………………………..12-10 (5-3)

Tie-Breaker Points – Which are based on Championship matches correct (out of a possible five points)

8: Mike Tedesco
7: Josh Boutwell
6: Ryan Rivera; Dave Stephens; Nicholas Gray; Anthony Valvo; CJ Bowman
5: Matt O’Brien; Evan O’Brien; Jose Marrero; Gregory Walek.
4: Greg McNeish
3: Darraugh O’Connor.

And of course, the WV Students average will be part of the standings. I have taken out the “Students of the Week” for this season. However, do not worry. Those that scored the highest will still be welcomed to participate in an upcoming article.

This weekend, our Student of the Week will be Ken Konarzewski. Mr. Konarzewski earned the status because he was the only WrestleView Student or staff member to earn a record of 6-2 for WrestleMania.

The Best of the Class (Top 3 earn a prize. Tie-Breaker Points in parentheses)

Prizes:

1st Place – A DVD Set of our choosing.
2nd Place – A T-Shirt
3rd Place – A Coffee Mug
Worst – TNA Victory Road 2009 (or 2011) DVD.

(W/L from TNA’s Victory Road is in first parentheses)
(Tiebreaker Points are in second)

1) Paul Meade……………………………………………………20-7 (4-4) (7) – Tie for #1
2) Brandon Ewing………………………………………………20-7 (4-4) (7) – Tie for #1
3) Travis Thomas………………………………………………….19-8 (4-4) (7) –Tie for #2
4) Ken Konarzewski…………………………………………….19-8 (6-2) (7) – Tie For #2
5) Michael Fox……………………………………………………19-8 (3-5) (7) – Tie For #2
6) Paul Smith………………………………………………………..19-8 (5-3) (6) – #3

There are so many still in contention, so if you would like to know your standing send me an e-mail and I will be more than happy to let you know where you stand.

One WrestleView Student is in sole position of the basement (aka last place and most incorrect predictions). The “Student” was informed of this. The worse record stands at 14-13.

Also to those that have participated in all PPVs, keep it up. This by all means is nowhere close to being over! Don’t give up!

And now, the moment you all have been waiting for…

Predictions for TNA Lockdown 2011

*** NON-CHAMPIONSHIP MATCHES ***

Xscape Match (First stage is by pinfall or submission. Second Stage, effective when two wrestlers are left, will be by escape of the cage)
Amazing Red vs. Brian Kendrick vs. Chris Sabin vs. Jay Lethal vs. Jermey Buck vs. Max Buck vs. Robbie E vs. Suicide

Dave S. – MAX BUCK.

Mike T. – MAX BUCK.

Josh B. – AMAZING RED. I literally have no idea who is going to win this one. I wanna say Max Buck after his heel turn on Jeremy but I just dont know so I’m going with my personal favorite in the match, RED.

Ryan R. – LETHAL.

Matt O. – RED.

Nick G. – ROBBIE E.

Jose M. – BRIAN KENDRICK.

Anthony V. – ROBBIE E. First off, I think this match has way too many guys. Six would be a good number, but not eight. I took out the fillers (Kendrick, Sabin, Bucks, and Suicide) and that left me with Red, Lethal, and Robbie. Robbie is a teacher. I am going with the teacher.

Greg M. – CHRIS SABIN. Completely meaningless match. Who cares?

Evan O. – AMAZING RED.

Clinton B. – ROBBIE E.

Gregory W. – JAY LETHAL.

Darragh O. – ROBBIE E.

Ken K. – MAX BUCK.

CONSENSUS: ROBBIE E. While it is not a majority (far from it), Robbie E appeared in the most ballots among the WrestleView Staff. However, based on what appeared on the ballots, it is still a total guess as to who will get over in this contest.

ROBBIE E 4; Amazing Red 3; Jay Lethal 2; Max Buck 3; Chris Sabin 1; Brian Kendrick 1; Jeremy Buck 0; Suicide 0.

Four Way Tornado Tag Team Match
The British Invasion (Douglas Williams and Magnus) vs. Crimson and Scott Steiner vs. Orlando Jordan and Eric Young vs. Ink Inc. (Jesse Neal and Shannon Moore)

Dave S. – ORLANDO JORDAN/ERIC YOUNG.

Mike T. – THE BRITISH INVASION.

Josh B. – BRITS. The Brits get the win in their return as a team.

Ryan R. – INK INC.

Matt O. – JORDAN AND YOUNG.

Nick G. – TEAM STEINER.

Jose M. – THE BRITISH INVASION.

Anthony V. – BRITISH INVASION. Now is the best time to get the reunion of the Brits as they were at one point the best tag team in TNA. I have Williams pinning Moore for the victory.

Greg M. – BRITISH INVASION. They’re the best candidates for the next Tag Team Title program.

Evan O. – THE BRITISH INVASION.

Clinton B. – THE BRITISH INVASION.

Gregory W. – NO CONTEST AND/OR DQ.

Darragh O. – INK INC.

Ken K. – BRITISH INVASION

CONSENSUS: THE BRITISH INVASION. Even though each team got one vote of confidence by a staff member (and even one who thinks there is no winner); with the reunion of the British Invasion it was too good to pass up.

THE BRITISH INVASION 8; Ink Inc. 2; Orlando Jordan and Eric Young 2; Scott Steiner and Crimson 1; No Contest/DQ 1.

Steel Cage Match
Matt Morgan vs. Hernandez

Dave S. – MATT MORGAN.

Mike T. – HERNANDEZ.

Josh B. – MORGAN. Morgan gets the heel inside the cage away from Mexican America and finishes off this long running feud.

Ryan R. – MORGAN.

Matt O. – HERNANDEZ.

Nick G. – MORGAN.

Jose M. – HERNANDEZ.

Anthony V. – MATT MORGAN. Don’t get me wrong, I am a big fan of Mexican America, but in a cage I say the babyface wins the match, then gets beatdown by Hernandez’s faction afterwards.

Greg M. – MATT MORGAN. Time to blow this dang feud off already.

Evan O. – MATT MORGAN.

Clinton B. – HERNANDEZ.

Gregory W. – MATT MORGAN.

Darragh O. – MATT MORGAN.

Ken K. – HERNANDEZ.

CONSENSUS: MATT MORGAN. The feud is nearing an end between “The Blueprint” and “Super Mex”. Even though Hernandez and Mexican America are headed for bigger and better things, Matt Morgan gets the victory inside the cage.

MATT MORGAN 9; Hernandez 5

Lethal Lockdown
Fortune (James Storm, Robert Roode, Kazarian) and Christopher Daniels vs. Immortal (Ric Flair, Abyss, Bully Ray, and Matt Hardy)

Dave S. – IMMORTAL.

Mike T. – FORTUNE.

Josh B. – TEAM FORTUNE. Immortal is going to try and do something underhanded but AJ Styles makes his return and helps his boys get the win.

Ryan R. – IMMORTAL.

Matt O. – FORTUNE.

Nick G. – FORTUNE.

Jose M. – FORTUNE.

Anthony V. – IMMORTAL. I will probably get this wrong, but there are one or two twists in every TNA PPV (intentional or unintentional). This one has “twist” all over it. Though AJ is not on the card, I would not be surprised if he makes an appearance. Also, it would not surprise me if either AJ or Daniels swerves. Side prediction: Flair bleeds after the first shot at the cage.

Greg M. – IMMORTAL. Fortune is not going over without AJ Styles being involved.

Evan O. – FORTUNE.

Clinton B. – FORTUNE.

Gregory W. – FORTUNE.

Darragh O. – TEAM FORTUNE.

Ken K. – FORTUNE.

CONSENSUS: FORTUNE. Though some went with Immortal to get a big win over the more talented Fortune, the majority went with Fortune and Daniels to inflict a lot of pain (and probably blood) in this Lethal Lockdown match.

FORTUNE 10; Immortal 4.

Steel Cage Match
Samoa Joe vs. D’Angelo Dinero

Dave S. – THE POPE.

Mike T. – SAMOA JOE.

Josh B. – JOE. Joe’s gonna put an end to this feud and finally takes the Pope out. This match could end up being really good.

Ryan R. – JOE.

Matt O. – JOE.

Nick G. – JOE.

Jose M. – D’ANGELO DINERO.

Anthony V. – SAMOA JOE. There is no way after all of this that Joe loses in a cage.

Greg M. – SAMOA JOE. Joe has gotten enough rehab to have forgotten about Sofa Joe. He’s worth another look up the card.

Evan O. – SAMOA JOE.

Clinton B. – SAMOA JOE.

Gregory W. – D’ANGELO DINERO.

Darragh O. – SAMOA JOE.

Ken K. – SAMOA JOE.

CONSENSUS: SAMOA JOE. This feud has been Dinero-heavy in promos and inside the ring. The staff believes this is the perfect time for Samoa Joe to finally “kill” someone. Too bad Dinero is the one submitting in this round.

SAMOA JOE 11; D’Angelo Dinero 3.

Steel Cage Match (2 out of 3 falls. Fall #1 will be pinfall. Fall #2 will be submission. Fall #3 will be escape the cage.)
Jeff Jarrett vs. Kurt Angle

Dave S. – KURT ANGLE.

Mike T. – KURT ANGLE.

Josh B. – ANGLE. Angle finally gets Jarrett in the cage and he absolutely destroys him.

Ryan R. – ANGLE.

Matt O. – ANGLE.

Nick G. – ANGLE.

Jose M. – KURT ANGLE.

Anthony V. – KURT ANGLE. This is a perfect time to even the score between both guys in this feud. I have Jarrett getting the first win cheap. Angle obviously will win the second fall with the Ankle Lock, and even though Karen will try and help Jarrett in the third fall, Angle escapes first because of “Pittsburgh blood”

Greg M. – KURT ANGLE. I’ve got hope that this will be a good match, but I really don’t care about this feud at all.

Evan O. – KURT ANGLE.

Clinton B. – ANGLE.

Gregory W. – JARRETT (2 falls to 1).

Darragh O. – KURT ANGLE.

Ken K. – KURT ANGLE.

CONSENSUS: KURT ANGLE. This story may have gone on too much (and maybe too far). If there is a way to even things out in this story, Angle should get the win over the always fleeing Jarrett.

KURT ANGLE 13; Jeff Jarrett 1.

*** CHAMPIONSHIP MATCHES ***

FOR THE TNA KNOCKOUT’S CHAMPIONSHIP
Hair vs. Title Steel Cage Match
Madison Rayne (c) vs. Mickie James

Dave S. – MICKIE JAMES

Mike T. – MICKIE JAMES

Josh B. – MICKIE. Mickie has been chasing this belt since she debuted in TNA and despite the injury I think she finally wins it. Tara may end up having some type of involvement here too.

Ryan R. – MICKIE JAMES will win the TNA Knockout’s title.

Matt O. – JAMES.

Nick G. – MICKIE.

Jose M. – MICKIE JAMES.

Anthony V. – MICKIE JAMES. This is a no-brainer. There is no way Mickie will shave her head after losing a few title matches to Rayne. Tara turns face tonight as well.

Greg M. – MICKIE JAMES. They’re teasing a lot of tension between Rayne & Tara, but I just can’t see them shaving Mickie to propel that forward. There are a lot less outrageous ways to build that feud.

Evan O. – MICKIE JAMES.

Clinton B. – MICKIE JAMES.

Gregory W. – MICKIE JAMES.

Darragh O. – MICKIE JAMES.

Ken K. – MICKIE JAMES.

CONSENSUS: MICKIE JAMES. We finally get our first unanimous pick of the day. Even though Rayne has represented the championship well and really established herself in the TNA Knockout’s Division, it is time to turn the belt over to James.

MICKIE JAMES 14; Madison Rayne 0.

FOR THE TNA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP
Three-Way Steel Cage Match
Sting (c) vs. Rob Van Dam vs. Mr. Anderson

Dave S. – STING.

Mike T. – STING.

Josh B. – STING. I have been going back and forth over this one and I truly don’t know really. RVD COULD turn heel and if he does he wins the belt. Then again Anderson could turn as well and he if so he prolly wins but I think they want to keep Anderson a tweener. Sting is the only one I keep coming back to but honestly RVD turning heel and winning makes the most sense. Sting winning also makes sense and stays with his thing of keeping the belt from Immortal so Im just going with Sting.

Ryan R. – STING.

Matt O. – ANDERSON.

Nick G. – Unfortunately, STING.

Jose M. – STING.

Anthony V. – STING. Rob Van Dam and Mr. Anderson still has a story to tell and it won’t be for the TNA World Title. Sting manages to beat the odds and retains the title for at least the next few weeks.

Greg M. – MR. ANDERSON. There’s no way Sting can keep himself going in main events, and RVD was a failure as Champ last year. Anderson is the closest thing they have to a good option here.

Evan O. – STING.

Clinton B. – STING.

Gregory W. – STING. RDV (*cough* RVD) will take the pinfall.

Darragh O. – MR. ANDERSON.

Ken K. – ROB VAN DAM.

CONSENSUS: STING. Though at least one staff member chose a different route, the majority of the staff will go with “The Icon” to retain the title in a well-contested main event battle.

STING 10; Mr. Anderson 3; Rob Van Dam 1.
