PPV Predictions: TNA Slammiversary 2011

Predictions from the Faculty
TNA/Impact Wrestling Slammiversary IX Edition
June 12, 2011
Predictions by: Wrestleview Columnists and Staff
Written by: Anthony J. Valvo of Wrestleview.com

Introduction

Welcome to the latest edition of “Predictions from the Faculty” (Season #3). This weekend, we gathered our thoughts for the upcoming Impact Wrestling Pay-Per-View, as we will provide our selections for TNA’s Slammiversary PPV. The show will be held in Orlando, FL.

The card currently will have eight matches. As of now, I am not expecting to make any changes.

In case you are new to reading these predictions, here is the format. Each Pay-Per-View a few of the columnists on WrestleView provide predictions on who they think will win the matches. We accumulate throughout the end of the Faculty’s year (in this case, the 2012 Royal Rumble).

What makes this entirely different to others is that you, the reader, can provide your picks for a spot to have yours posted in an upcoming PPV. All the readers have to do is either leave me a message on Facebook or e-mail at mistervwv@hotmail.com. The winner among the “WrestleView Students” will win an opportunity to post their picks as a “Student of the Week” (if they outright defeat the reigning Students of the Week). We all thank you for your participation.

Tie-Breakers will determine standings!

I have decided to prevent some tiebreakers, I will issue points to Title Matches that are predicted correctly. There are two championship matches on the card, so the maximum amount of points to go along with the win/loss standing will be two points. Also, if I throw out a pick for a championship, then obviously no bonus will be counted for that particular match.

But what, to the WrestleView “students”, there is more!

I got approval for this decision, and for the FIRST time in our three seasons the students will compete for PRIZES!!! That is right; we felt that your loyalty to the article shall be rewarded. However, the prizes will not be handed out until the FINAL PPV Prediction of the season (which will be WWE’s Royal Rumble 2012). So not only will one get a chance to earn a Gold Star and be a part of this game, but it will be for a competition.

The WrestleView Staff Standings

Tie-Breaker Points – Which are based on Championship matches correct

17: Nicholas Gray; Josh Boutwell; Mike Tedesco; Ryan Rivera
16: Gregory Walek; CJ Bowman
15: Dave Stephens; Jose Marrero
14: Anthony Valvo; Evan O’Brien
13: Greg McNeish
12: Darragh O’Connor
10: Matt O’Brien

And of course, the WV Students average will be part of the standings. I have taken out the “Students of the Week” for this season. However, do not worry. Those that scored the highest will still be welcomed to participate in an upcoming article.

This weekend, our Students of the Week will be Paul Meade and Ken Konarzewski. They both earned this standing in part to the 7-1 record each posted for WWE’s Over the Limit a few weeks ago.

The Best of the Class (Top 3 earn a prize. Tie-Breaker Points in parentheses)

Prizes:

1st Place – A DVD Set of our choosing.
2nd Place – A T-Shirt
3rd Place – A Coffee Mug
Worst – TNA Victory Road 2009 (or 2011) DVD.

(W/L from WWE’s Over the Limit)
(Tiebreaker Points are in second)

Top 5

3) Paul Meade……………………………………………………..41-17 (7-1) (16) – #3
4) Goose Oberstar………………………………………………40-18 (6-2) (18)
5) Brandon Ewing………………………………………………40-18 (5-3) (16)

There are so many still in contention, so if you would like to know your standing send me an e-mail and I will be more than happy to let you know where you stand.

The Worst Student so far is 33-25. The Worst student goes to the WV Student with the most predictions incorrect.

Also to those that have participated in all PPVs, keep it up. This by all means is nowhere close to being over! Don’t give up!

And now, the moment you all have been waiting for…

Predictions for TNA’s Slammiversary IX

*** NON-TITLE MATCHES ***

Singles Match
Matt Morgan vs. Scott Steiner

Nicholas G. – STEINER.

Jose M. – MATT MORGAN.

Josh B. – MORGAN over Steiner.

Dave S. – MATT MORGAN.

Mike T. – SCOTT STEINER.

Ryan R. – MORGAN.

Gregory W. – MATT MORGAN.

Anthony V. – STEINER. I think they are starting something here between those two. For now, I am going with Scott Steiner in this round.

Greg M. – MATT MORGAN.

Darragh O. – SCOTT STEINER.

Clinton B. – N/A.

Evan O. – SCOTT STEINER.

Matt O. – MORGAN.

Paul M. – MORGAN. I wouldn’t mind either one winning, but Morgan needs this win bad to further his career.

Ken K. – STEINER > MORGAN. They both want the title, and if Sting wins, then you can’t have Morgan/Sting.

CONSENSUS: MORGAN. This was a very close prediction score, but the slight majority of the staff predict that Morgan will get the upper hand over the experienced Scott Steiner.

MATT MORGAN 8; Scott Steiner 6.

Singles Match
Crimson vs. Samoa Joe

Nicholas G. – JOE.

Jose M. – CRIMSON.

Josh B. – CRIMSON over Joe.

Dave S. – CRIMSON.

Mike T. – CRIMSON.

Ryan R. – CRIMSON.

Gregory W. – CRIMSON.

Anthony V. – CRIMSON. I won’t be surprised if this is a no contest, but Crimson is built to be an unstoppable force on Impact. Crimson either escapes a victory, or neither wins.

Greg M. – CRIMSON.

Darragh O. – JOE.

Clinton B. – N/A.

Evan O. – CRIMSON.

Matt O. – CRIMSON.

Paul M. – CRIMSON. Further his winning streak.

Ken K. – CRIMSON > Joe. Crimson has an undefeated streak from what I heard, expect this to t be a longer feud where Joe comes around every month or two to try to end it, but Crimson will come on top.

CONSENSUS: CRIMSON. Crimson is currently built up to be an undefeated superstar. In a match that features new vs. old in TNA experience, the staff believes that Crimson will remain unbeaten inside a TNA (or Impact) ring.

CRIMSON 12; Samoa Joe 2.

Last Man Standing Match
Bully Ray vs. AJ Styles

Nicholas G. – AJ.

Jose M. – AJ SYTLES.

Josh B. – AJ over Bully Ray.

Dave S. – AJ STYLES.

Mike T. – AJ STYLES.

Ryan R. – STYLES.

Gregory W. – AJ STYLES.

Anthony V. – STYLES. I actually have been enjoying the feud between both wrestlers. Ray has had Styles’ number recently, so I think at least in this match the tables would turn.

Greg M. – AJ STYLES.

Darragh O. – AJ STYLES.

Clinton B. – N/A.

Evan O. – AJ STYLES.

Matt O. – STYLES.

Paul M. – AJ. I wouldn’t be surprised if Ray won this one to continue the feud, but AJ needs this win big.

Ken K. – AJ STYLES > Bully Ray. With Dreamer gone, AJ needs his win.

CONSENSUS: STYLES. In a feud that went surprisingly well from the start, we believe that there Styles will unquestionably be the “last man standing” over Bully Ray.

AJ STYLES 14; Bully Ray 0.

Final Battle
(Stipulation: If Kurt Angle loses, Jarrett gets his Olympic Gold Medal)
Jeff Jarrett vs. Kurt Angle

Nicholas G. – ANGLE.

Jose M. – KURT ANGLE.

Josh B. – ANGLE over Jarrett.

Dave S. – KURT ANGLE.

Mike T. – KURT ANGLE.

Ryan R. – ANGLE.

Gregory W. – KURT ANGLE.

Anthony V. – ANGLE. I never go against a guy from Pittsburgh. That and usually the babyface will win a long feud. There is no way Jarrett takes the gold medal.

Greg M. – KURT ANGLE.

Darragh O. – ANGLE.

Clinton B. – N/A.

Evan O. – ANGLE.

Matt O. – ANGLE.

Paul M. – ANGLE. Is there any doubt that he won’t win? I’ll riot if Jarrett is #1 contender.

Ken K. – KURT ANGLE > Jeff Jarrett. If it really is the final battle, the face should win. Please end this storyline.

CONSENSUS: ANGLE. If this is truly the end of the feud that went on since 2010, there is no doubt according to the staff that Kurt Angle will be the #1 contender to whomever holds the World Championship at that time.

KURT ANGLE 14; Jeff Jarrett 0.

*** CHAMPIONSHIP MATCHES ***

Singles Match for the TNA Knockout’s Championship
Mickie James (c) vs. Angelina Love

Nicholas G. – JAMES.

Jose M. – MICKIE JAMES.

Josh B. – MICKIE over Angelina.

Dave S. – MICKIE JAMES.

Mike T. – MICKIE JAMES.

Ryan R. – LOVE.

Gregory W. – MICKIE JAMES.

Anthony V. – JAMES. Winter and Love will be distracted by Sky (who I am sure will cause a distraction) and I just don’t see after months of chasing James is just going to drop it. However, won’t be surprised that Love wins it on the next PPV or two.

Greg M. – MICKIE JAMES.

Darragh O. – MICKIE JAMES.

Clinton B. – N/A.

Evan O. – MICKIE JAMES.

Matt O. – LOVE.

Paul M. – MICKIE. She just won the title, there’s no way they’ll take it off this soon.

Ken K. – JAMES > Love. Stuff happens, James wins. Arby’s for all!

CONSENSUS: JAMES. Though the numbers are in Angelina’s favor (she more than likely will have Winter at ringside), the staff believes that Mickie will retain the Knockout’s Championship.

MICKIE JAMES 12; Angelina Love 2.

Triple Threat Match for the TNA X Division Champioinship
Abyss (c) vs. Kazarian vs. Brian Kendrick

Nicholas G. – ABYSS.

Jose M. – ABYSS.

Josh B. – KAZ over Abyss and Kendrick.

Dave S. – BRIAN KENDRICK.

Mike T. – BRIAN KENDRICK.

Ryan R. – ABYSS.

Gregory W. – BRIAN KENDRICK.

Anthony V. – KENDRICK. Since he started doing segments with Bischoff, Kendrick’s stock has risen. Kazarian and Abyss are part of this Fortune/Immortal feud so they don’t need “a title” to continue their story. Why not give the title to Kendrick?

Greg M. – ABYSS.

Darragh O. – ABYSS.

Clinton B. – N/A.

Evan O. – ABYSS.

Matt O. – ABYSS.

Paul M. – KENDRICK. He’s in line for a push as champ, and it needs to further the Wrestling Matters storyline.

Ken K. – KAZ > Abyss/Kendrick.

CONSENSUS: ABYSS. The staff were almost split whether Abyss will retain or lose the X Division Championship, but more votes still went to Abyss than the others. Though some are going a different route, slightly over 50% still predicts that Abyss will retain his title.

ABYSS 7; Brian Kendrick 5; Kazarian 2.

Tag Team Match for the TNA World Tag Team Championship
James Storm and Alex Shelley (c’s) vs. The British Invasion (Douglas Williams and Magnus)

Nicholas G. – STORM/SHELLEY.

Jose M. – BRITISH INVASION.

Josh B. – BRITS over Gun Money.

Dave S. – STORM and SHELLEY.

Mike T. – JAMES STORM & ALEX SHELLEY.

Ryan R. – THE BRITSH INVASION.

Gregory W. – JAMES STORM AND ALEX SHELLEY.

Anthony V. – THE BRITS. Normally, I would type that the champs retain. But I think this would be a good way to bring a strong heel team back on Impact. Plus, the booking is confusing.

Greg M. – MOTOR CITY BEER.

Darragh O. – THE BRITISH INVASION.

Clinton B. – N/A.

Evan O. – JAMES STORM and ALEX SHELLEY.

Matt O. – BRITISH INVASION.

Paul M. – STORM & SHELLEY. The British haven’t been on the show much at all, maybe they’ll win the titles later.

Ken K. – BRITISH INVASION > Detroit Beer Company. Sadly Shelley/Storm can’t hold the title, they just can’t.

CONSENSUS: BRITISH INVASION. Even though they have not appeared on Impact frequently, the staff slightly believes in the Brits to defeat the current TNA Tag Team Champions.

BRITISH INVASION 7; James Storm and Alex Shelley 7.

Singles Match for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship
Sting (c) vs. Mr. Anderson

Nicholas G. – STING.

Jose M. – MR. ANDERSON.

Josh B. – STING over Anderson.

Dave S. – STING.

Mike T. – STING.

Ryan R. – STING.

Gregory W. – MR. ANDERSON.

Anthony V. – STING. I just don’t think that Mr. Anderson is the guy that should be the top guy on Impact. I say Sting runs with this title for at least another few weeks.

Greg M. – MR. ANDERSON.

Darragh O. – STING.

Clinton B. – N/A.

Evan O. – STING.

Matt O. – STING.

Paul M. – I’m going with STING on this one. If Del Rio hasn’t won his title yet, then Anderson won’t win either.

Ken K. – STING > Anderson. Mr. Anderson can’t hold the belt, he’s starting to get annoying, and I’m listening to the Hunter Golden Rant on TNA while doing this. Don’t forget to send your thank you cards to Hunter Golden.

CONSENSUS: STING. Though Mr. Anderson earned a few votes by our staff, the majority predicts that the champion will retain.

STING 11; Mr. Anderson 3.
