Staff predictions: TNA Bound for Glory 2011

Predictions from the Faculty
TNA Bound for Glory 2011 Edition
October 16, 2011
Predictions by: Wrestleview Columnists and Staff
Written by: Anthony J. Valvo of Wrestleview.com

Introduction

Welcome to the latest edition of “Predictions from the Faculty” (Season #3). This weekend, we gathered our thoughts for the upcoming TNA Pay-Per-View, as we will provide our selections for TNA’s biggest night Bound for Glory 2011. The show will be held in “The City of Brotherly Love” and home to the town that booed Santa Claus…Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The card is currently booked to have nine matches (eight on the PPV and one on Facebook).

In case you are new to reading these predictions, here is the format. Each Pay-Per-View a few of the columnists on Wrestleview provide predictions on who they think will win the matches. We accumulate the records throughout the end of the Faculty’s year (in this case, the 2012 Royal Rumble).

What makes this entirely different to others is that you, the reader, can provide your picks for a spot to have yours posted in an upcoming PPV. All the readers have to do is either leave me a message on Facebook or e-mail at mistervwv@hotmail.com. The winner among the “Wrestleview Students” will win an opportunity to post their picks as a “Student of the Week” (if they outright defeat the reigning Students of the Week). We all thank you for your participation.

Tie-Breakers will determine standings!

I have decided to prevent some tiebreakers, I will issue points to Title Matches that are predicted correctly. There will be three championship matches on the card, so the maximum amount of points to go along with the win/loss standing will be three points. Also, if I throw out a pick for a championship, then obviously no bonus will be counted for that particular match.

But what, to the Wrestleview “students”, there is more!

I got approval for this decision, and for the FIRST time in our three seasons the students will compete for PRIZES!!! That is right; we felt that your loyalty to the article shall be rewarded. However, the prizes* will not be handed out until the FINAL PPV Prediction of the season (which will be WWE’s Royal Rumble 2012). So not only will one get a chance to earn a Gold Star and be a part of this game, but it will be for a competition.

*Prizes go out to the top three (the most picked correctly and if needed tiebreaker points) positions and the worst (most matches picked incorrectly with the fewest tiebreaker points).

Current Standings

2011-2012 Predictions from the Faculty Roster (as of WWE’s Hell in a Cell)

9) Anthony Valvo (From the Desk of Mr. V/Teacher’s Lounge)……68-52 (4-1)

12) Evan O’Brien (WV International Desk)……………………………65-55 (1-4)
13) Darragh O’Connor (WV International Desk)……………………..63-46 (2-3)
14) Matt O’Brien (Notes from the Nosebleeds)……………………….62-58 (2-3)

Tie-Breaker Points – Which are based on Championship matches correct

37: Jose Marrero; Mike Tedesco
36: Gregory Walek; Ryan Rivera
35: Jason Namako
34: Dave Stephens
33: Nicholas Gray
32: Anthony Valvo; Greg McNeish; Josh Boutwell
29: Evan O’Brien; Andrew Hayman
27: Andrew Hayman; Darragh O’Connor
26: Matt O’Brien

The Students of the Week for Night of Champions will be Randy McWilliams, Antonio DeGaetano, Sean McNally, Joe Devine, and Wade Bradford. All five of them scored a perfect 5-0 on the WWE Hell in a Cell Predictions, something only one Wrestleview Faculty member accomplished (which happens to be the standings leader Jose Marrero). Remember, Consensus in this case is “subject to change”.

The Best of the Class (Top 3 earn a prize. Tie-Breaker Points in parentheses)

Prizes:

1st Place – A DVD Set of our choosing (max 3 disc set).
2nd Place – A T-Shirt
3rd Place – A Coffee Mug
Worst – TNA Victory Road 2009 (or 2011) DVD.

The WrestleView Reader Leaderboard

I will just type out the top readers at this time. The first set of parentheses is the W/L record for WWE’s Hell in a Cell. The second parentheses are the Tie-Breaker points.

1) Jordan Benterman…………………………………………..75-45 (4-1) (36) – #1
2) Michael Fox……………………………………………………73-47 (3-2) (34) – #2
3) Paul Meade……………………………………………………..72-48 (3-2) (35) – #3
4) Wade Bradford………………………………………………..72-48 (5-0) (34)
5) Paul Smith………………………………………………………..70-41 (3-2) (32)

The person with the most picks incorrect is currently 49-56 with 25 tiebreaker points. Therefore, I deem that score the worst.

Also to those that have participated in all the previous PPVs, keep it up. Though there are only a handful of PPVs left you can still be a Student of the Week sometime this year.

And now, the moment you all have been waiting for…

Predictions for TNA’s Bound for Glory 2011

(Note: As of press time I did not get predictions from Greg McNeish, Darragh O’Connor and Student of the Week Joe Devine. Once they give me predictions, I will add them under the comments.)

*** NON-TITLE MATCHES ***

Triple Threat Match
Samoa Joe vs. Matt Morgan vs. Crimson

Jose M. – CRIMSON.

Ryan R. – CRIMSON.

Dave S. – CRIMSON.

Jason N. – SAMOA JOE.

Gregory W. – MATT MORGAN.

Mike T. – CRIMSON (duh).

Nick G. – CRIMSON.

Anthony V. – CRIMSON will continue his undefeated streak with a win over Morgan. I think out of all of these (outside of Hogan/Sting) I just can’t get into this match.

Greg M. – N/A.

Josh B. – CRIMSON.

Evan O. – CRIMSON.

Darragh O. – N/A.

Andrew H. – CRIMSON.

Matt O. – CRIMSON.

Randy M. – SAMOA JOE.

Antonio D. – SAMOA JOE.

Sean M. – CRIMSON.

Joe D. – N/A.

Wade B. – Does losing in a triple threat count against Crimson’s undefeated streak, or is that just in one-on-one matches? Ah, who can tell anymore? Anyway, TNA’s dead-set on having Joe lose every match he’s in until his contract runs out. CRIMSON wins.

CONSENSUS: CRIMSON. Crimson has the streak going, and most of the staff believe that the streak will continue after Bound for Glory.

Crimson 12; Samoa Joe 3; Matt Morgan 1.

Full Metal Mayhem Match
Rob Van Dam vs. Jerry Lynn

Jose M. – RVD.

Ryan R. – RVD.

Dave S. – ROB VAN DAM.

Jason N. – ROB VAN DAM.

Gregory W. – ROB VAN DAM.

Mike T. – ROB VAN DAM.

Nick G. – RVD.

Anthony V. – They will put on a pretty good match, I think. However, it is obvious that ROB VAN DAM is going to win this match. I do expect Lynn to do well though.

Greg M. – N/A.

Josh B. – ROB VAN DAM.

Evan O. – JERRY LYNN.

Darragh O. – N/A.

Andrew H. – RVD.

Matt O. – ROB VAN DAM.

Randy M. – ROB VAN DAM.

Antonio D. – RVD.

Sean M. – RVD.

Joe D. – N/A.

Wade B. – I have it on good authority that one of the weapons in Full Metal Mayhem is going to be a hairbrush, Lynn’s one weakness. He’s powerless against one. How else do you explain that thing on his head? RVD wins.

CONSENSUS: ROB VAN DAM. Only one believes that the win will go to Lynn, which of course is possible. However, the rest of the staff believe that Van Dam will close this rivalry once and for all and defeat his long time adversary.

Rob Van Dam 15; Jerry Lynn 1.

“I Quit” Match
AJ Styles vs. Christopher Daniels

Jose M. – AJ STYLES.

Ryan R. – AJ STYLES.

Dave S. – AJ STYLES.

Jason N. – AJ STYLES.

Gregory W. – AJ STYLES.

Mike T. – AJ STYLES.

Nick G. – AJ.

Anthony V. – This is probably the match of the night. Both guys have great chemistry and whether they are a team or rivals they are solid. I think a win for AJ would not do much for this story and I think it is going to go on until at least December. So with this match, I think CHRISTOPHER DANIELS will pull a trick out of his sleeve and defeat Styles in the match.

Greg M. – N/A.

Josh B. – AJ STYLES.

Evan O. – AJ STYLES.

Darragh O. – N/A.

Andrew H. – AJ STYLES.

Matt O. – AJ STYLES.

Randy M. – AJ STYLES.

Antonio D. – AJ STYLES.

Sean M. – AJ STYLES.

Joe D. – N/A.

Wade B. – If Daniels wins, he goes back to bragging about it, which he’s already been doing. If Styles wins, Daniels snaps completely and this feud gets taken to a whole new level. AJ STYLES wins.

CONSENSUS: AJ STYLES. Daniels won match prior and has been a solid rival to Styles and mentally got the best of him. At Bound for Glory, the majority of the staff believe that Styles will end this when he makes Daniels “quit” in this anticipated contest.

AJ Styles 15; Christopher Daniels 1.

Falls Count Anywhere Match
Bully Ray vs. Mr. Anderson

Jose M. – MR. ANDERSON.

Ryan R. – ANDERSON.

Dave S. – BULLY RAY.

Jason N. – MR. ANDERSON.

Gregory W. – MR. ANDERSON.

Mike T. – BULLY RAY.

Nick G. – ANDERSON.

Anthony V. – It seems like every time I go against Bully Ray, I lose. But for some reason, it seems like Anderson needs a win at Bound for Glory after all the tricks Bully Ray has done to him since Anderson lost the TNA World Championship over the summer. It is time for the babyface to win. ANDERSON gets the edge in this match.

Greg M. – N/A.

Josh B. – MR. ANDERSON.

Evan O. – MR. ANDERSON.

Darragh O. – N/A.

Andrew H. – BULLY RAY.

Matt O. – BULLY RAY.

Randy M. – MR. ANDERSON.

Antonio D. – ANDERSON.

Sean M. – BULLY RAY.

Joe D. – N/A.

Wade B. – On paper, Ray should destroy Anderson ten times over. But, given what happened on Impact, Abyss is going to show up here and intentionally cost Ray the match, setting up a hardcore Abyss/Ray feud. MR. ANDERSON wins.

CONSENSUS: ANDERSON. The feud has gone on for months. While Bully Ray has the faction and the weapons, the majority of the staff are picking Anderson because he needs to win this one to keep things going a bit longer.

Mr. Anderson 11; Bully Ray 5.

Singles Match (Stip: If Hogan loses, Dixie Carter wins control of the company)
Sting “fights” Hulk Hogan

Jose M. – STING.

Ryan R. – STING.

Dave S. – STING.

Jason N. – HULK HOGAN.

Gregory W. – STING.

Mike T. – STING, but really, who cares?

Nick G. – There is NO WINNER, we all lose. EVERYONE!

Anthony V. – I know I am wrong, but sadly I am picking HOGAN. I announced this pick on our podcast because, well, TNA signed Hogan for two more years (ugh) and Sting will find his way on Impact if he loses. I do want Sting to win though. While I am cool with Bischoff, Hogan needs to go.

Greg M. – N/A.

Josh B. – STING.

Evan O. – STING.

Darragh O. – N/A.

Andrew H. – STING.

Matt O. – STING.

Randy M. – STING.

Antonio D. – HOGAN.

Sean M. – STING.

Joe D. – N/A.

Wade B. – This is gonna be a train wreck. Every back surgeon in the country has cartoon dollar signs in their eyes right now. STING wins, and hopefully drops his poorly-acted “crazy” persona. Heath Ledger he is not.

CONSENSUS: STING. Everyone would probably have picked Sting if Hogan did not re-sign with TNA, but now it appears that this match is much more difficult to predict. Will Immortal run in and help their leader? Will Sting find reinforcements as well? One thing is for certain, this match can get ugly. In the end, the staff thinks that Dixie Carter will win control of her company after a dismal year in which Hogan was the ringleader.

Sting 12; Hulk Hogan 3; “Everyone Loses” 1.

*** CHAMPIONSHIP MATCHES ***

Tag Team Match for the TNA World Tag Team Championship (Pre-Show on Facebook)
Mexican America (Hernandez and Anarquia) (c’s) vs. Ink Inc. (Jesse Neal and Shannon Moore)

Jose M. – INK INC.

Ryan R. – MEXICAN AMERICA.

Dave S. – MEXICAN AMERICA.

Jason N. – MEXICAN AMERICA.

Gregory W. – INK INC.

Mike T. – MEXICAN AMERICA.

Nick G. – INK INC.

Anthony V. – Like I said on last night’s “Teacher’s Lounge”, I don’t think Shannon Moore should be a champion. Sure, Ink Inc. are improving each week as a team, they are just not ready to beat MEXICAN AMERICA. I expect MexAm to be at their best.

Greg M. – N/A.

Josh B. – MEXICAN AMERICA.

Evan O. – MEXICAN AMERICA.

Darragh O. – N/A.

Andrew H. – MEXICAN AMERICA.

Matt O. – MEXICAN AMERICA.

Randy M. – MEXICAN AMERICA.

Antonio D. – MEXICAN AMERICA.

Sean M. – INK INC.

Joe D. – N/A.

Wade B. – First Devon and Pope tag for two seconds and get a title shot, now they resurrect Ink Inc out of nowhere and they get one too? Whatever happened to the depth in TNA’s tag division that they used to brag about so much? MEXICAN AMERICA retains the titles easily, no matter what Kat Von D wannabe Ink Inc brings with them.

CONSENSUS: MEXICAN AMERICA. While Ink Inc. have the momentum coming into the event, the majority of the staff believe that Hernandez and Anarquia will have the better chance in this pre-show match that we can watch on Facebook. (Writer’s Note: I will keep my personal opinions to myself for the integrity of this piece. Let’s just say for a company that promotes how great their tag team division is, this is a bit disrespectful, right?)

Mexican America 12; Ink Inc. 4.

Fatal Four Way Match for the TNA Knockout’s Championship
Winter (c) vs. Velvet Sky vs. Mickie James vs. Madison Rayne

Jose M. – VELVET SKY.

Ryan R. – WINTER.

Dave S. – VELVET SKY.

Jason N. – VELVET SKY.

Gregory W. – VELVET SKY.

Mike T. – VELVET SKY.

Nick G. – VELVET.

Anthony V. – The have been pushing VELVET SKY as the top babyface Knockout for months. Rayne would be my next best guess because she added a good bit to the championship. Winter and Mickie had chances, but really did not go over with the fans. I think if Sky wins this title, maybe a few more people will talk about women’s wrestling again. Please, no Karen shenanigans. I fear it will happen.

Greg M. – N/A.

Josh B. – VELVET SKY.

Evan O. – WINTER.

Darragh O. – N/A.

Andrew H. – MADISON RAYNE.

Matt O. – VELVET SKY.

Randy M. – VELVET SKY.

Antonio D. – VELVET.

Sean M. – WINTER.

Joe D. – N/A.

Wade B. – They’ve been booking Velvet Sky as an underdog champion-in-waiting all summer, building fan support for her. I think TNA uses BFG to inject some new blood into a couple of title scenes, and this is one of them. VELVET SKY wins her first KO title.

CONSENSUS: VELVET SKY. Madison Rayne and Mickie James are pretty much there and received a combined one vote from our staff. In the end it will come down to Winter vs. Sky, and the staff overwhelmingly chose Sky as the new champion. They pushed and teased this for weeks, and now it is time.

Velvet Sky 12; Winter 3; Madison Rayne 1; Mickie James 0.

Singles Match for the TNA X Division Championship
Austin Aries (c) vs. Brian Kendrick

Jose M. – AUSTIN ARIES.

Ryan R. – AUSTIN ARIES.

Dave S. – AUSTIN ARIES.

Jason N. – AUSTING ARIES.

Gregory W. – AUSTIN ARIES.

Mike T. – AUSTIN ARIES.

Nick G. – ARIES.

Anthony V. – No matter how odd Kendrick is, it feels like he does wrestling moves stereotypical to that of X Division guys. Austin Aries has a great character and is one of the best in the world when he is a heel. I say AUSTIN ARIES retains.

Greg M. – N/A.

Josh B. – AUSTIN ARIES.

Evan O. – AUSTIN ARIES.

Darragh O. – N/A.

Andrew H. – AUSTIN ARIES.

Matt O. – AUSTIN ARIES.

Randy M. – AUSTIN ARIES.

Antonio D. – ARIES.

Sean M. – ARIES.

Joe D. – N/A.

Wade B. – I see no reason whatsoever to put the belt back on Kendrick. AUSTIN ARIES retains the X-title. Long live his reign and his feathered pink ring attire.

CONSENSUS: AUSTIN ARIES. The staff unanimously predicts that the X Division Championship will continue to be around the waist of “The Greatest Man that Ever Lived”.

Austin Aries 16; Brian Kendrick 0.

Singles Match for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship
Kurt Angle (c) vs. Bobby Roode

Jose M. – BOBBY ROODE.

Ryan R. – BOBBY ROODE.

Dave S. – BOOBY ROODE.

Jason N. – BOBBY ROODE.

Gregory W. – BOBBY ROODE.

Mike T. – BOBBY ROODE MUST win.

Nick G. – ROODE.

Anthony V. – I feel TNA can do so many right things with this match. Usually I joke and pick the guy from Pittsburgh, but I think Roode is such a good man to be the face of TNA Wrestling. The belt has been tarnished with champions who do not deserve it. Sting was too old. Anderson was out of shape. Hardy and Angle battled legal issues. Roode minded his own business, put on solid matches all year, was part of the best tag team in wrestling this year, and climbed the ladder to success to be at this position. If TNA wants to do the right thing, do it at Bound for Glory. Give the win (and TNA World Title) to BOBBY ROODE.

Greg M. – N/A.

Josh B. – BOBBY ROODE.

Evan O. – BOBBY ROODE.

Darragh O. – N/A.

Andrew H. – BOBBY ROODE.

Matt O. – BOBBY ROODE.

Randy M. – BOBBY ROODE.

Antonio D. – ANGLE.

Sean M. – BOBBY ROODE.

Joe D. – N/A.

Wade B. – TNA’s gonna spend three months with the BFG Series only to have the winner lose his title shot? Yeah, right. BOBBY ROODE wins the title.

CONSENSUS: BOBBY ROODE. Outside of one Student of the Week, the staff predicts that we will see a new champion and face of TNA. Angle’s mind games on Fortune apparently did not work (or did they?). Also, a new face holding the world title would do something for the company. Roode is the pick.

Bobby Roode 15; Kurt Angle 1.

Dismissal

Well, that does it for the eighteenth round of Predictions from the Faculty for the 2011-2012 season.

And remember students, this is YOUR column too! Please present to me your choices for the winners of any PPV by e-mail at mistervwv@hotmail.com or by sending me an inbox message on Facebook. Winner of each PPV receives a coveted (and NEVER duplicated) Gold Star in my next column and will be named the “Student of the Week” for the next Predictions article. Also, you are one step closer to a prize that if one is in the top three they will win a prize (and even the last place person as well, no one in between).

Well, that does it for us, class. On behalf of my peers on WrestleView I bid you farewell. We will be taking a 7-day recess and will be back with our predictions for WWE’s Vengeance. As always, thank you for reading our predictions. Now go and enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Be sure to check out all the VIP material before Hell in a Cell. Also, for $4.99 a month you get so much for your money, including this weekend’s Pay-Per-View Post-Show host by Dave Stephens and Mike Tedesco (at least that is who I think will be doing the post-show).

Thank you for reading and to those that do, participated in the column. We appreciate your feedback.

Once again, here is how you can join in on our predictions game. Please use these methods. If you post them under the “comments”, they will NOT be counted.
