Viva La Raza! # Ocho: Lucha Weekly

By: Josh Boutwell of WrestleView.com

Hey guys, welcome to another edition of Lucha Weekly tonight on the night of the National Championship which I will not be watching for two reasons (I???ll be covering Impact and because it hurts to bad after how bad my Crimson Tide got whooped this weekend). There is tons of news and I???m going to do something different for this edition so let??’s get right to it.

CMLL

Mistico Impresses In Japan

Mistico’s first Japanese appearence was a very successful one at the huge January 4th Wrestle Kingdom III Tokyo Dome show. Mistico teamed up with New Japan stars Ryusuke Taguchi & Prince Devitt to defeat CMLL rival Averno, Jado, & Gedo in an exciting Trios Match. The fans obviously knew who Mistico was and got behind him quickly. Mistico impressed not only the fans but the New Japan bookers as well seeing how he has been invited back for a February date. I had a chance to see the match a few days ago and it was very good. Mistico pulled out all the stops in the match with several variations of hurricanranas, tons of dives (including a Tope Suicida, a beautiful Asai Moonsault, and a Springboard Plancha all on Averno), great high spots, and nice kicks to go along with some good mat wrestling as well. Mistico was blessed with great partners and a great opposing team as well. After about 10 minutes of back and forth action between the two teams Mistico amazed the Japanese crowd when he locked Averno in the La Mistica and forced him to tap out. If you have a chance to see this match and you haven’t seen Mistico yet, this is a perfect match for a first time watcher. I posted video of it in the forum so check it out.

Fox Drops CMLL

FSE (Fox Sports Espanol) has officially parted ways with CMLL and will no longer show their programming in the United States. That means that no American fans can watch CMLL anymore (other than on the internet). That??’s bad news for CMLL.

CMLL Stars Meet Mexican President

CMLL stars Ephesto, Ultimo Guerrero, Felino, and Hijo de Fantasma had a chance to meet Mexican President Felipe Calderon at an event sponsored by the Mexican National Sports Commission. To see a picture of the luchadores and President Calderon go this link…
