Mistico, Strong Man, & Brazo came out for the save but were then attacked by Averno, El Terrible, & Texano allowing the invading ex-AAA guys to escape and leave in a black SUV. Is this a big invasion angle CMLL is trying? Or is it just an angle they’re doing for the Puebla shows (which they’ve done certain things as in the past)? It is interesting to note that all of those ex-AAA guys are signed to Perros del Mal.The following is a picture of Mistico hilariously tossing Cuije around (courtesy of LuchaBlog):

– Dorada retained his title for the 3rd time (and 2nd against Dragon).

AAA

AAA Video Game News

AAA had a viewing of their new video game “AAA Heroes en Ring 2011” with several different magazines and websites (GameInformer has a great review here: http://gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2010/04/09/news-lucha-libre.aspx). Things that have been confirmed are that Konami will handle distrubution for the United States and it will be released August 9th and Mask/Hair Matches will be included in the game! On the show GameSpot they had an interview with some of the developers and also showed game play footage. One interesting thing to note is the referees will actually be in the ring (and can be attacked). Also they revealed that the storyline mode will feature you creating your own luchadore and along the story you can unlock more characters. From the pictures on GameInformer I can see Abismo Negro, Psycho Circus, Dark Ozz, Dr. Wagner Jr., Kenzo Suzuki, Silver King, Vampiro, Gronda II, El Zorro, El Mesias, Escoria, & Extreme Tiger. The following is a list of wrestlers that have been confirmed to be in the game (with more to come):

La Parka Jr., Electroshock, Konnan, El Mesias, Cibernetico, Octagon, Psycho Clown, Murder Clown, Monster Clown, El Elegido, Charly Manson, Abismo Negro, Gronda II, Ozz, Chessman, Super Fly, Psicosis III, Cuervo, El Zorro, Vampiro, Extreme Tiger, Kenzo Suzuki, Dr. Wagner Jr., Silver King, Alan Stone, Escoria, Jack Evans, Chris Stone, Groon XXX, X-Pac, Nicho el Millionario, Joe Lider, & Alex Koslov.

Histeria II & El Alebrije Trying to Take AAA to Court
Last week Histeria II (or Histeria Xtreme) and El Alebrije met with AAA officials as well as lawyers in Mexico City to try and resolve the issue between the parties over the ownership of the wrestlers names as well as their claims of “unfair termination” from AAA. The two also said that Psicosis II (Psicosis Xtreme), Charly Manson, Cuije, Latin Lover, and more could possibly follow next if it goes well for Histeria & Alebrije. No compromise has been made yet and Histeria & Alebrije clame they will take AAA to court if it isn’t resolved.

I had been getting regular press releases from the promotion until the rumors about their shows being canceled. I haven’t heard anything from them yet so I’m following just what it says on their website. Sabu is supposed to be on the card (possibly in that Hardcore 5-Way as the “TBA”?). It’s going to be a PPV that will air on InDemand June 11 and will feature English (and Spanish) commentary. Also, it will be available in HD as well.

MATCH SPOTLIGHT

This week I’m bringing back the “Match Spotlight” (which I hope to bringing more of soon) for a special match review. I’ve been given the chance to preview a match from AIW’s recent “Jack of All Trios” Tournament (which will be available on DVD). Now the interesting thing to know about this tournament is the winning team earns a spot in this month’s upcoming “King of Trios” Tournament over in CHIKARA (see the tie-in to my column now?). Now onto the match.

Jack of All Trios Tournament Quarterfinals
Jack of All Trios Tournament Night 2 (April 10, 2010)
Team Oreo (Flip Kendrick, Louis Lyndon, & Johnny Gargano) vs. Team Beyond Wrestling (Jonny Mangue, Chase Burnett, & Zane Silver)

If the names in Team Oreo sound familiar to the readers of this column and Dragon Gate USA fans they should because all three of Team Oreo’s members have competed in Dragon Gate USA on more than one occasion. Team Beyond I am much less familiar with. Team Oreo are obvious fan favorites here and they make their way out to the ring to Lil’ Flip’s “Game Over”, which was a hit when I was in high school. Team Beyond are coming out to what sounds like the theme song from “Last Dragon”. I’m not familiar with Team Beyond but Johnny Magnue is in the Samoan wrestler in tropical shorts, Chase Burnett is in red trunks, and Zane Silver is in the black. Johnny Gargano and Burnett start the match off. Gargano and Burnett lockup and Gargano flings Burnett to the mat but Burnett nips right back up. Burnett lights Garagno up with some round kicks and then goes for a springboard wristlock into an arm drag but Gargano blocks it and then goes for a German Suplex. Burnett blocks it and then rolls backwards into an arm drag that sends Gargano crashing into the middle rope. Burnett charges at Gargano but he side steps him and kicks the legs out from under Burnett sending him flying through the ropes to take a sick bump on the floor! Silver comes down to check on Burnett but he says he’s fine. Back in the ring Flip Kendrick and Johnny Magnue will now takeover (lucha rules here, no tags needed). They lockup and Magnue gets the advantage with a wristlock and he begins head butting the wrist of Kendrick, but Kendrick backflips into a counter. Mangue counters right back and goes for a Pump Handle Slam, but Kendrick counters into a head scissors takeover. Magnue comes back with an arm drag and then charges at Kendrick in the corner but Lyndon gets a boot up. Lyndon then hit’s a beautiful springboard corkscrew arm drag! Kendrick whips Magnue into the ropes but eats a chop to the gut and then a snap mare. Magnue comes off the ropes and goes for a sliding dropkick but Kendrick moves out of the way and attempts a Running Shooting Star Press! Magnue moves out of the way and attempts to take Flip’s head off with a roundhouse kick, but Kendrick ducks and then hit’s a dropkick that sends Magnue out to the floor. Now Louis Lyndon and Zane Silver step into the ring. They lockup and both attempt roundhouse kicks and end up kicking each other’s legs. Silver goes for a leg sweep but at the same time Lyndon went for a cannonball splash with both men missing. Silver with a leg sweep and then a lateral press for a one count and Lyndon comes back with one of his own. Lyndon goes for a clothesline but Silver blocks it with a kick and then and then goes for a German. Lyndon reverses the waistlock but Silver shoves him off. Lyndon comes right back with a side headlock but Silver shoves him off into the ropes. Lyndon backdrops Silver over the top rope but Silver lands on the apron and then hit’s a shoulder block on Lyndon through the ropes. Silver backdrops a charging Lyndon over the top onto the apron with him now! Lyndon attempts to German Suplex Silver off the apron but he blocks it and counters with a back elbow that knocks Lyndon off the apron. Lyndon attempts to clothesline the legs of Silver but Silver jumps over the attempt and drops down right into a DDT on Lyndon into the apron! Silver rolls back into the ring and Gargano comes in and nails him with a Jumping Knee Strike. Gargano whips Silver into the opposite corner but Silver decides to springboard out of the corner into a hurricanrana onto Lyndon on the floor! Burnett nails Kendrick off the apron with a running elbow that sends him crashing to the floor. All three of the heels are in the ring now and setting up for a big dive spot when Gargano attempts to get back in the ring with a slingshot move. Gargano eats one of the nastiest triple team moves I’ve ever seen as Silver came off the ropes and delivered a sickening Running Double Knee strike to the front of Gargano’s head while Magnue & Burnett hit dual sliding dropkicks to the side of his head! Burnette hit’s a springboard somersault plancha onto Team Oreo and then Silver follows with a Diving Corkscrew Plancha off the top where this kid was so high he was touching a ceiling fan! Magnue sets up for a dive of his own but Flip Kendrick was able to sneak in the ring and fling Magnue over the top rope to the floor. Flip climbs to the top and hit’s a tremendous Corkscrew Moonsault onto everybody! Flip rolls Magnue back into the ring and goes for a Suplex but Magnue blocks it and throws a series of forearms and chops. Magnue attempts to whip Kendrick into the corner but he reverses it. Kendrick charges in for a Splash but Magnue moves out of the way and comes back with Neckbreaker and then a Rolling Diving Headbutt! Lyndon comes into the ring and attempts a roundhouse kick on Magnue, but he ducks only to eat a spinning Enziguri from Lyndon as he spun around! Lyndon goes for a clothesline but Magnue ducks and attempts a German Suplex. Lyndon reverses it and hit’s a NASTY Tiger Suplex! 1…2…NO Burnett breaks it up! Burnett and Lyndon trade forearms with Lyndon getting the better of it until Burnett comes back with a nasty Lariat on the ropes. Burnett then grabs Lyndon by the feet and flips him to the mat! Burnett then hit’s a crazy Moonsault dropkick to the back of a seating Lyndon! 1…2…NO Gargano breaks it up now! Gargano with a mule kick and then he whips Burnett into the corner. Burnett hits hard and sits down in the corner as Gargano charges. Burnett gets his foot up but Gargano catches the foot and then the other foot. Gargano lifts Burnett up and onto his shoulders by his feet! Gargano goes for what looks like maybe a Powerslam but Burnett shoves him into the waiting arms of Silver. Burnett then goes into a Wheelbarrow onto both Silver and Gargano and then rolls underneath them and shoves Gargano into a Superkick from Silver! Burnett hit’s a running Enziguri to the side of Gargano’s head in the corner! Burnett then hit’s a Springboard Van-Terminator dropkick on Gargano! 1…2…NO Kendrick & Lyndon break it up! Silver and Lyndon brawl to the floor as Kendrick hit’s a Standing Shooting Star Press on Burnett in the ring! 1…2…NO Silver breaks it up! Silver lights Kendrick up with a kick to the chest and then a nasty forearm. Silver whips Kendrick into the corner and Kendrick attempts to float over into a head scissors, but Silver blocks it and hangs Kendrick up in the ropes. Silver then hit’s a Hanging Reverse STO! 1…2…NO Kendrick kicks out! Silver rolls Kendrick backwards into the waiting arms of Magnue. Magnue lifts Kendrick up into a Wheelbarrow Slam right onto the knees of Silver! They hold him there as Burnett gets ready for a Springboard Moonsault onto the prone Kendrick but Gargano comes out of nowhere and actually leaps off of his partner’s body into a dropkick on Burnett in mid air in one of the crazies spots of the match! Lyndon comes in and hit’s a dropkick on Magnue and then a spinning Lariat on Silver! Lyndon & Kendrick both go for Superkicks on Magnue but he catches both of their feet until Gargano runs in with a Running Front Kick on Magnue as Kendrick & Lyndon hit dual Leaping Enziguri’s! 1…2…3 and Team Oreo gets the win!

Winners: Flip Kendrick, Johnny Gargano, & Louis Lyndon via pinfall (Triple Kick)

(Wow, this was a great introduction into AIW as both teams really busted their a**es out there. Flip Kendrick is incredibly athletic (all of them are but he was exceptional) and both teams really put on a great, entertaining high flying bout with tons of innovative moves especially double and triple team moves. ***½)

AIW has both Nights of their Jack of All Trios Tournament up for pre-order on their website, http://www.aiwrestling.com/, and after seeing this I would strongly recommend it as I personally am interesting in seeing more of these guys.
