AS I SEE IT 10/19

AS I SEE IT

The sun rose in the west this morning.

They’re wearing sweaters in hell.

And Shane McMahon resigned from WWE.

In an event that was apparently shocking even within WWE, Shane McMahon resigned his position in World Wrestling Entertainment on October 16.

McMahon’s statement read “It is with great sadness that I announce my resignation from the WWE, effective January 1, 2010. I have never even considered a future outside the walls of the WWE. However, sometimes life takes an unexpected turn and while it is the most difficult decision I have ever made, it is time for me to move on.”

Aside from that he thanked his father, the wrestlers and the fans.

McMahon’s resignation is effective January 1.

Vince McMahon on the company’s corporate web site wrote, “Even though I am personally saddened by Shane’s decision to leave the company, I am proud of the enormous contributions he has made. He will unquestionably bring passion, commitment and extensive business experience to any endeavor he pursues.”

So now it’s time to speculate as to where Shane McMahon is going next. The most obvious option would be for McMahon to work with his mother’s US Senate Campaign in Connecticut. Several websites have already put this out.

Given what the Democrats in Connecticut have already done in putting out the most extreme of WWE storylines…first the storylines involving Linda McMahon including the one where she was drugged. On October 16, an effort was made to alert political reporters and bloggers to the Vick storyline. WWE responded by sending Jerry McDevitt and friends after You Tube and ordering the videos pulled under the guise of “trying to protect its intellectual property”. Ed Patru is the Linda McMahon campaign committee claimed they had nothing to do with it.

Rrrrright…..

News bulletin to the McMahon campaign committee: a simple Google search would reveal quite a few more angles that WWE has done. For that matter, if Connecticut Democrats even googled this column would reveal some choice ones. It wouldn’t take much to find the video footage.

So…given all that, is it that much of a stretch to imagine Shane McMahon being involved with her media campaign? Not really. Some websites have speculated this to be the reason, and other wesbites to have flat out stated it as the reason. But no such announcement has been made.

So….let’s do some wild speculation as to alternatives.

Shane McMahon’s interest in MMA is well known. Vince McMahon and the rest of WWE had a party line for a long time that UFC was no competition. Lately, the company party line has been that “we give more entertainment value” based on the fact that a worked match can last as long as the promoter wants it to, versus what a sports product is. In other words, they don’t take it as seriously as

Imagine a press conference in Las Vegas on New Year’s Day with Dana White at the podium in a press conference the day before UFC 108, scheduled for January 2, 2010.

How about the thought of Dana White and Shane McMahon arm in arm at the press conference…with an announcement that Shane McMahon has signed with UFC in a promotional role to expand global media in a similar role to that he’s held in WWE?

Even more speculative, imagine Shane McMahon together and Scott Coker of Strikeforce in a similar pose.

Think the “galactic interweb” would explode if that happened?
