Val Venis Returning to CMLL

Former WWE superstar, Sean Morley (aka Val Venis), will be returning to CMLL in November for the first time in over 10 years. Morley wrestled in the late 90’s for CMLL as “Steele” a masked American before leaving to go to the WWE. As Steele he was extremely successful in CMLL even capturing the CMLL World Heavyweight Championship from Rayo de Jalisco Jr. and in fact Morley never actually lost the belt as he vacated it when he left for the WWE. There is no word whether he will reprise his Steele gimmick or will come in simply as Sean Morley.

Another Mask vs. Mask Cage Match in CMLL

The last one was with stars and this time around its with mostly young up and coming wrestlers.

* NOTES *
– Guerrero and Volador was said to have been very good. Guerrero challenged Volador to a Mask Match afterward and he accepted! That would be a HUGE match but I just don’t see it happening right now. It wouldn’t benefit either to lose their mask whatsoever at this point. No date was set for the match either.

– In the Segunda Womens Match Negra Casas is the wife of Negro Casas. She has martial arts and kickboxing training to go along with her recent wrestling training. This was her wrestling debut to my knowledge.

AAA

Groon XXX Gone From AAA Again

After only returning to AAA for less than a couple of months Groon XXX (original Gronda) has left AAA once again. AAA confirmed it this week and that means there’s one less horrible wrestler in AAA. I don’t even think he took a pin the whole time he was back with AAA this time. He’ll definitely be on many’s Worst of 2009 list.

X-Pac Returning to AAA Once Again
X-Pac has been gone from AAA since July but apparently is once again on his way back to AAA. AAA posted the following video on their official YouTube page this week:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EO8rm_uUSpc

Tirantes Sr. Leaves AAA
Another week, another depature for AAA. Tirantes Sr. (yes the man with the suspenders) is of course a referee for AAA and has been so since the very first AAA show way back in 1992. Tirantes is a former wrestler back in the 80’s primarily as well. Tirantes usually worked all the big shows in AAA and his son El Hijo del Tirantes is also a referee in AAA. Tirantes is leaving and jumping over to Perros del Mal as well so they have a new referee to add to the roster.

AAA Signs Toy Deal with Playmates
This week in a press release AAA and Playmates Toys revealed their new deal. Playmates will launch a line of AAA Action Figures that will be available by next Christmas and they will also be making role-playing lucha masks and even play sets much like WWE does for it stars (which would include things like wrist bands, masks, knee pads, toy title belt, etc.). This will obviously be the first time lucha libre toys will be available in America and this is a pretty cool thing for AAA. La Parka Jr., Octagon, & Cibernetico were the only stars confirmed to have action figures. To see the full press release: click here.

Cibernetio & Konnan Get Into Big “Argument” Caught on Video
A video was posted on YouTube this past weekend supposedly showing security footage of a backstage ‘argument’ between Konnan and Cibernetico at the “Immortales Heroes III” show at Arena Monterrey. In the video it shows wrestlers (including Gran Apache, El Zorro, Joe Lider, La Parka Jr., and others) having to hold back Cibernetico and Konnan from fighting. Konnan goes into a big rant in Spanish supposedly saying that Cibernetico a disgrace to Antonio Pena and AAA. This is quite obviously a work by AAA (first off, another cameraman is very visible in the early parts of the shot and 2nd, the video is still not been taken down) to set something up between Ciber and Konnan. For those that haven’t seen it, this is the video:

DRAGON GATE

Super Crazy & BxB Hulk Enters DGUSA Tournament, New Matches Signed

DGUSA announced late last week that lucha libre superstar and former ECW, WWE, & TNA star, Super Crazy, would be entering the November Enter the Freedom Gate Title Tournament! Crazy is the 8th entrant to the tournament! BxB Hulk has also been added to the tournament lineup as well! Also, a huge Semi-Main Event for the “Open the Freedom Gate” show has been signed. Dragon Kid will team with Shingo Takagi to face one of Dragon Gate’s greatest tag teams ever, Speed Muscle (Masato Yoshino & Naruki Doi)! Dragon Kid was initially going to be in the Tournament to crown the first Open the Freedom Gate Champion but due to an altercation backstage between the four involved in the huge tag match DGUSA decided to remove him from the Tournament and make this big tag match. DGUSA has decided this is unfair to DK and has already signed the first Main Event for the first DGUSA show in 2010 as Dragon Kid will earn a shot at the Open the Freedom Gate Title against whoever wins the title in November! Eddie Kingston (CHIKARA and ROH star) has also been signed for the event as he will participate in the bonus one-on-one Singles Match to open the show.

INDY & OTHER NEWS

Charly Manson Hoping for CMLL Run

This week Charly Manson talked about his INDY run and his hopes to wrestle for CMLL in the future. Manson says that he wants to wrestle on the INDY scene primarily with Perros del Mal so he can get out of the AAA mindset of wrestling and get back to traditional lucha libre. Manson says that eventually he hopes to go to CMLL and live his dream of wrestling in Arena Mexico.

Young Lions Cup & 4-Way Elimination Tag Match Added to Easton CHIKARA Show
CHIKARA announced this week that two big matches have been signed for the 10/17 show in Easton, PA. The first is Player Dos defending his Young Lions Cup for the 2nd time, this time against Frightmare! Also, a huge Four-Way Elimination Tag Match has been signed and the Young Bucks of Nick & Matt Jackson and the former CHIKARA Tag Champs Osirian Portal have already been signed for the match. 2 more teams will be signed for the match.

Torneo Cibernetico Participants Complete
The teams for the huge Torneo Cibernetico on 10/18 for CHIKARA have been completed and it is sure to be one of the biggest in CHIKARA’s history. Partners will collide in this huge Elimination bout as both teams have signed each a half of some of the top teams in CHIKARA. Fire Ant, the captain of one time, has picked Mike Quackenbush, Player Uno, Carpenter Ant, Cheech, Lince Dorado, Hallowicked, & Nick Jackson as his team. On the other side Soldier Ant has selected Jigsaw, Player Dos, Green Ant, Cloudy, Helios, Frightmare, & Matt Jackson as his team!

Blue Demon Jr. & The Sheik Trade Insults
The Sheik (not the real one, the cheap knockoff version) was supposed to receive a NWA World Title shot against champion Blue Demon Jr. coming up but NWA canceled the match. In response The Sheik released a statement claiming Demon to be a paper champion and says Demon doesn’t want to risk losing his belt. He also made fun of Demon for hanging out with Jonas Brothers (yeah, oookay). Demon responded by issuing a statement of his own saying that he had no idea who The Sheik even was (he said for him to send Demon a resume and business card so he can figure out who he is, classic). He says the NWA controls all challengers and he had no idea that the match was to take place. He says that The Sheik isn’t even a top contender for the belt which he isn’t (if you go to the NWA’s website Sheik isn’t even in the top 10). Kayfabe and probably just a way to build up a future match? Probably but Demon was still funny as hell.
