Silver King Mask Controversy Continues

Over on the WrestleView forums we’ve had a pretty good discussion in the past few weeks about when and if a luchador can remask or put their mask back on after losing it. I have given the official rules before but I willd do it again. When a wrestler (in Mexico) loses his mask to another wrestler, he is no longer allowed to wear that mask ever again. BUT, if he wants to, in 5 years he can remask under a different mask/name. That is what the official rules are supposed to be but in the last decade or so it’s been ignored quite a deal. One of the people that has more blatantly ignored the rule is AAA star, Silver King. He has not only lost one mask but he has lost 2 masks in his career. His first mask, the one that he wears now, was lost to the legendary El Hijo del Santo in 1987 as a part of UWA. He then held the honoring of wearing the Black Tiger mask as the third man to hold that distinction (Marc Rocco was the first and Eddie Guerrero was the 2nd) and he lost that mask to L.A. Park (the original La Parka) in Mexico on 02/04/06. Silver King never once wore his old mask during his time in WCW or before or after he became Black Tiger until a few years ago when he began wearing the mask again sometimes (mostly in Japan). Sometimes he would take the mask off before or after the match but either way he was not supposed to be wearing this mask. Technically Silver King can’t wear any mask yet (as it’s only been 3 years since he lost the Tiger Mask mask) but even if you ignore that, he can’t wear the original Silver King mask at all. If he was to wear another mask he would have to change his name and his mask. This has garnared the attention from the Box y Lucha Commission many times but Silver King has always ignored it for the most part. Until this past week that is. He spoke on the issue and said that him wearing the mask what for marketing purposes only and not allowing him to wear the mask would be like telling someone they couldn’t have long hair or makeup. That statement itself spits on the entire tradition of Lucha Libre. The whole makeup of the mask in Lucha has been that it means more than just a piece of merchanidise in this world and it should represent the sould of the luchador. Coming from a man that is in a lucha family (his father the legendary Dr. Wagner and his brother Dr. Wagner Jr.) this is very dissapointing and Silver King should be ashamed. I, personally, didn’t care that he wore the mask but now my feelings have changed and I wish the Box y Lucha Commission would punish him in some way (a fine or a suspension) now that he has made statements like this.

Another Luchador Leaves AAA, More Rumored To Be On Their Way Out

El Angel made it official this week that he was leaving AAA and said that he was leaving on good terms and would be allowed to keep his name (though he is planning on changing his look). He hopes to work his way to CMLL soon. Pimpinela Escarlata and El Zorro (who is currently involved in a major feud with X-Pac) are both rumored to be on their way out the door in AAA. Nothing for sure yet and they are both still considered members of the AAA roster at this point.

– In the Cruiser Title Tourney Evans and Tiger fought to a DRAW when they pinned each other at the same time. Both men are eliminated from the tournament.

– La Hermandad attacked Marco costing his team the match.

– El Mesias came out after the Main Event and told Dr. Wagner Jr. he was the real champ in AAA

Villano III has been wrestling the longest (debuted in 1970) but Villano IV & V are the most famous due to their stint in WCW as cruiserweights.
