Former WWWF Champion Pedro Morales has passed away.

Morales, 76, was battling Parkinson’s disease according to PWInsider.

Morales was the first wrestler to accomplish the Triple Crown title by capturing the WWWF World, Intercontinental and Tag Team Championships during his career.

Morales was a native of Puerto Rico and “developed a passionate following in the northeast” per a statement by WWE among the Hispanic population.

One of his most high profile matches took place in 1972 in Shea Stadium in front of more than 22,000 fans against Bruno Sammartino at the Showdown at the Shea wrestling card.

He retired from wrestling in 1987 and was later inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame back in 1995. Morales was also a commentator for WCW and WWE.

WWE posted a full statement online about Morales’ passing earlier today.
