Inside the Ropes is featuring an interview clip with Chris Jericho where he talks about being disappointed with his WrestleMania 18 main event match against Triple H.
Jericho notes in the clip that even though they were technically the main event and last match on the card, The Rock vs. Hulk Hogan was, in his mind, the real main event.
“Yeah let’s be honest, main event in the fact that it was on last. But the main event of the show was Hogan and Rock. Most people would be pitching to have their match on last, I was pitching for it to not go on last. Because I said, how do you follow Hogan and Rock?
We couldn’t follow it. We just couldn’t. And you could see the air go out in the room. That’s a match, I’ve never watched it back. I remember being kind of disappointed in it. I remember talking with CM Punk years later, one of his big reasons why he left wrestling was he was really mad that he wasn’t the main event of WrestleMania. I said dude, you worked with The Undertaker at WrestleMania. That’s the main event. He said ‘you can’t say that because you were on last.’ And I’m like, I was on last, but I wasn’t the main event.”
