Dominik Mysterio on McMahon’s reaction to first match; Nick Aldis on Mickie James’ booking

Dominik on his SummerSlam debut

This past Sunday, Dominik Mysterio had his first televised match against Seth Rollins in a Street Fight at SummerSlam.

Speaking to Alex McCarthy of talkSPORT, Dominik talked about a number of things surrounding his first match. Dominik first talked about the people that helped him build the match, including his father, Rey Mysterio, Seth Rollins, and Jamie Noble:

“Putting the match together, I couldn’t have picked a better person to help me with that than Seth and my dad. We also had the help of our producer Jamie Noble, another man who is outstanding at what he does. So I’m nothing but thankful to those guys for how they helped me and guided me through this crazy debut match at SummerSlam. Overall, I was very happy with the match. Again, nothing but great things for Seth and about Seth, and he guided me in unimaginable ways and I’m thankful for him and what he’s done for me.”

Dominik also spoke about the backstage reaction following the match, including getting a hug from Vince McMahon.

“The reaction backstage was crazy. I got very emotional, hugged my mum, hugged my dad, hugged Jamie, Seth – the whole deal. Everyone was very happy and clapping for me, so it was a surreal moment. I definitely gave the bossman [Vince McMahon] a hug afterwards and thanked him for the opportunity. It was just a crazy experience. From seeing other people and other wrestlers finish their matches and walk through gorilla and hug Vince and stuff like that, having that be my turn to do it… I’m forever grateful.”

Dominik made his WWE Raw in-ring debut the next night, teaming with his father against Seth Rollins and Murphy. This Sunday, Dominik will team with his father against Rollins and Murphy again at WWE Payback.

NWA Worlds Champion Nick Aldis on Mickie James’ WWE booking

NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion Nick Aldis commented on a recent episode of the Battleground podcast that he thinks the booking of his wife, Mickie James, in WWE is “sad.”

Mickie James made her return to WWE on the August 10th Raw. James was out of action since June 2019 after suffering a knee injury at a WWE Live Event. Her in-ring return came on August 17 in a losing effort against Natalya via count-out. The focus during that match was on Seth Rollins, who walked out to ringside to talk to Samoa Joe.

Aldis blames his wife’s booking on a war of words he had with WWE’s Executive Director of Raw and SmackDown Bruce Prichard in July. Prichard had previously stated that he didn’t believe Aldis had the “It Factor” while he was working with him in Impact Wrestling. Aldis took exception to that and criticized Prichard’s booking ability.

“You’re not suggesting that the executive director of a publicly-traded company, with stockholders and huge television rights fees to maintain, would be as petty as to devalue one of his own assets just to get revenge over a feud that he himself started, are you? You can’t honestly suggest that would be a real thing. It has to be a coincidence. These silly, petty tactics, fans see through it. I don’t think anybody saw that and thought, ‘Mickie James is a jabroni.’ Everyone saw it for what it was. She’s an all-time great and doesn’t need me to fight her battles. She knows her worth and will make it work, but everyone could smell that stench. It was just sad.”
