Predictions: WWE Royal Rumble

Predictions from the Faculty
Royal Rumble Edition
January 31, 2010
Written by: Anthony J. Valvo of WrestleView.com
Predictions by: WrestleView Columnists and Recappers

So folks, we are down to one more show before we can announce the winner of Predictions from the Faculty. This edition will focus on what many consider the most famous show outside of WrestleMania in the 2010 WWE Royal Rumble! Only once do we get thirty of the greatest WWE superstars to compete in an over-the-top rope match in which the winner of the Royal Rumble earns a shot at any championship in that year’s WrestleMania. Let us not forget that there are four championship matches on this card as well, making it in one’s opinion a tremendous card for a professional wrestling Pay-Per-View.

Well, we have picked matches for over twenty different PPVs, yet we still do not have a sole leader in our standings. Joe Baiamonte has held the Dean’s Chair for many months and until a couple months ago his seat was challenged by Jose Marrero and Josh Boutwell. Heck, even Marrero took the top spot for a brief moment, only to see a three-way tie for the Dean’s Chair. Who will it be? Lucky for the students of WrestleView, you will find out who is not only ?the one? at the Royal Rumble but you will find out ?the one? among the columnists of WrestleView.

Before the picks are announced, here are the currents standings as of TNA’s Genesis PPV. Inside the parentheses are the records for the Genesis PPV. Remember, we will have a winner of the Dean’s Chair after the Royal Rumble. With that typed, all records will be cleared and we will start fresh for our second year of Predictions from the Faculty. We will begin the new season at Against All Odds 2010.

Current Standings (as of TNA’s Genesis)

12) Sean Hurley (The Sharpshooter)??????????????.66-44 (INC)
13) Phil Chroniger (On Second Thought..)??????????..64-62 (INC)
14) Mike Tedesco (Smackdown and Superstars Recapper)?.41-31 (3-3)
15) Mike Klubnik (Stylin? and Profilin?)?????????????..20-14 (INC)
16) Ryan Droste (Ask WV)?????????????????????.4-4 (INC)

Absent so far: Joe Baiamonte; Phil Chroniger; Mike Klubnick; and Ryan Droste

Next year, we have a tie-break scenario in case we don?t have a clear winner. I am still not sure what we are going to do if there is a tie after the rumble, perhaps have co-deans or something like that.

So, now that I got the majority of the Faculty’s predictions it is time to present to the students our final predictions for the 2009-2010 season.

Championship Matches

**For the WWE Women’s Championship**
Michelle McCool (c) vs. Mickie James

Jose M. – Michelle has run her mouth for months and this feud so needs a payoff. I picked Mickie last time out and failed I doubt it will fail twice. MICKIE wins the gold.

Josh B. – THICKIE. (To that did not ?get it?, Josh picked Mickie).

David S. – MICKIE JAMES.

Josh P. – You know me and women’s matches. I don’t care about them at all so it’s time to throw the “Please, God, be right” dart at the board. It landed on Mickie James so yeah… MICKIE JAMES.

Anthony V. – Since I am out of the running for the top spot this season, I might as well go for broke with these selections. McCool can?t wrestle and ever since she is involved in this ridiculous storyline it makes me cringe as a teacher. I see MICKIE JAMES overcoming these dumb antics and after a couple months drop the belt to Beth Phoenix.

Mike S. – MICKIE JAMES.

Matt O. – MICKIE JAMES.

Chris K. – MICKIE JAMES.

Doug L. – MICKIE via the slight story-building in the distance… all this Piggy talk has been about as entertaining as watching linoleum curl. Phoenix has been added to this ‘trail mix of mediocrity’ for extra spice and the obligatory WM Women’s match in March.

Sean H. – MICKIE JAMES, please.

Mike T. – MICKIE JAMES.

**For the ECW Championship**
Christian (c) vs. Ezekiel Jackson

Jose M. – I think Christian has reigned long enough and I am content to keep picking against him until he finally does lose that title I am going with EZEKIEL.

Josh B. – JACKSON.

David S. – EZEKIEL JACKSON.

Josh P. – I highly doubt that Ezekiel Jackson is ready to carry ECW on his back. I don’t see the title switching hands here. I would think Regal would be the next champ that would carry ECW so Christian can go mingle elsewhere.. until then, the belt stays with Captain Charisma. CHRISTIAN.

Anthony V. – I know a lot of people are going to take Zeke (remember I make my picks before reading the columnists). I am not going to be one of them. I think Zeke is going to be a force, don?t get me wrong. However, I would not completely kill off the ECW product by giving Zeke the title. CHRISTIAN retains the ECW Title, but it will be very, very soon when he drops the title.

Mike S. – CHRISTIAN.

Matt O. – EZEKIEL JACKSON.

Chris K. – EZEKIEL JACKSON.

Doug L. – CHRISTIAN via my sense of non-conformity. Everyone wants Christian to lose the title and go elsewhere, everyone wants him to be a World Champion, everyone was him to do something grand at WM… well, it’s nice to have dreams.

Sean H. – Christian has been rock solid as ECW champ, really the definition of a fighting champion, however, WWE does love huge black ECW champions. I’m picking EZEKIEL.

Mike T. – EZEKIEL JACKSON.

**For the World Heavyweight Championship**
The Undertaker (c) vs. Rey Mysterio

Jose M. – Sorry but Rey Rey has no chance of being the champion UNDERTAKER will prevail.

Josh B. – TAKER.

David S. – THE UNDERTAKER.

Josh P. – If the Undertaker is going to lose the title before Wrestlemania… then I think it will be at Elimination Chamber next month. While I would LOVE to see Rey Rey with the belt again.. I just dont see it happening. UNDERTAKER

Anthony V. – When I sent the ballot out, I mistakenly put Shawn Michaels? name as the challenger. To my peers, I apologize. Then again, does Rey even have a shot? The only way I see Rey having a chance is if the Rumble match happens before this match. Michaels loses the Rumble and costs Taker the match against Rey to send a message. But if the Rumble is the last match on the card (and often that is the case), I say UNDERTAKER wins clean, drops the belt at the next PPV, and fights Michaels (though it will be hard to top) at WM 26.

Mike S. – THE UNDERTAKER*

Matt O. – UNDERTAKER.

Chris K. – UNDERTAKER.

Doug L. – TAKER via ‘this is not the time, nor the place’ mentality. It’s a lot more conceivable for ‘Taker to lose the title at No Way Out – Elimination Chamber… especially when I’m envisioning a whole mess of run-in’s to take place. HBK run-in, Batista run-in…. take your pick.

Sean H. – I’m picking….wait for it….REY REY.

Mike T. – REY MYSTERIO.

**For the WWE Championship**
Sheamus (c) vs. Randy Orton

Jose M. – SHEAMUS simply because it was never in the cards for Orton to regain the title.

Josh B. – SHEAMUS.

David S. – SHEAMUS.

Josh P. – I’m betting that everyone will pick Randy Orton in this match. Sheamus is being hailed as a transitional champion, but I think that this is just the beginning for him. The WWE have really limited his usage on television, building him up to be a dark horse champion. Sheamus hasn’t really solidified himself as a threat, yet. Orton thinks that since Cena is no longer champion, it should be a cake walk to regain his world championship. I don’t think that will happen. I think Sheamus will finally prove that his win over Cena was not a fluke and retain the belt here. SHEAMUS

Anthony V. – I think this is the moment in which Legacy turns on Orton, either one man (Ted) or both. SHEAMUS keeps the title for a few more weeks before we finally get a new champion.

Mike S. – RANDY ORTON.

Matt O. – SHEAMUS.

Chris K. – SHEAMUS.

Doug L. – SHEAMUS via ‘Now is the time’ daydream. Of all the times we have been talking about a Legacy split (Hell, it’s been nearly 8 months right?)… why not have it where both Cody AND Ted f’ up Orton’s chances… then Ted turns on Cody during the Rumble? It’s an idea, and WWE creative is known for calling ideas ‘Charmin’… that’s what they do with ideas…

Sean H. – SHEAMUS.

Mike T. – SHEAMUS.

2010 ROYAL RUMBLE MATCH

**To see all who is involved, please check WWE.com or WrestleView.com**

In this one, we are only going to count the WINNER of the Royal Rumble. However, if you want to add your choices for the Final Four and the Most Eliminated you can by e-mailing me at mistervwv@hotmail.com.

Predicted Winner of the Royal Rumble according to the professors

Jose M. – HHH.

Josh B. – HHH.

David S. – THE MIZ.

Josh P. – On WrestleView radio I picked a surprise entrant of possibly Edge to win the Rumble at slot #20, but that was for radio… This one… I’m going to go another direction and go with the rumors of one of the Wrestlemania main events. I think with Shawn Michaels having a good chance at winning the Royal Rumble. I think that they are going to give us the rematch from last year. Far be it from me to like back to back Wrestlemanias with the same match in it, but I think that this is where they are headed. Michaels will challenge Taker for the World Title at Wrestlemania, but like I said, I think Taker will lose it before then to build up some suspense that Michaels might pull it off this time. SHAWN MICHAELS

Anthony V. – As I stated via e-mail on Tom Van Stone’s show, I am going with TRIPLE H. I don?t think that the WWE is that predictable in giving Michaels the win. I am going to go with someone on the RAW Brand, and the clear choice in that brand is The Game.

Mike S. – JOHN MORRISON.

Matt O. – MIZ.

Chris K. – TRIPLE H.

Doug L. – HHH cuz I said so last Monday… I’m more interested in seeing what other kinds of storylines will pop up from the Rumble… will Edge make his return after he gets the Sweeny Todd dye out of his hair? We’ll see… all it costs is $45 or your patience as you jump from stream to stream…

Sean H. – TRIPLE H.

Mike T. – CHRIS JERICHO.

Predicted Final Four as chosen by the Professors

Jose M. – HHH, Shawn Michaels, John Cena, and The Big Show.
Josh B. – HBK, TRIPLE-H, DIBIASE, AND JERICHO
David S. – THE MIZ, JOHN CENA, HHH, CM PUNK
Josh P. – Hmm? I’m going to say Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Chris Jericho, and The Big Show as the final four.
Anthony V. – The Final Four will be: HHH; Shawn Michaels; CM Punk; Big Show.
Mike S. – HHH, Edge, Morrison, and HBK.
Matt O. – Miz, Cena, HHH, HBK.
Chris K. – Cena/HBK/Big Show/HHH
Doug L. – N/A
Sean H. – TRIPS, HBK, CENA, and JERICHO.
Mike T. – Jericho, HBK, Triple H, John Cena

Predictions on who will eliminate the most men as chosen by the professors

Jose M. – The Big Show.
Josh B. – Batista.
David S. – KANE.
Josh P. – Kane will continue his Royal Rumble streak of eliminating the most competitors. Bonus: Josh’s surprise Rumble picks are Edge and Bryan Danielson.
Anthony V. – I usually would pick the big man to eliminate the most wrestlers. Since I have BIG SHOW in my final four, I say that he eliminates at least six or seven wrestlers in this contest.
Mike S. – Kane. (I hope I read that right)
Matt O. – Batista.
Chris K. – David Stephens lol BIG SHOW
Doug L. – N/A
Sean H. – BIG SHOW.
Mike T. – Big Show.

Well, that does it for the latest edition (and last for the 2009-2010 season) of Predictions from the Faculty.

And remember students, this is YOUR column too! Please present to me your choices for the winners of any PPV by e-mail at mistervwv@hotmail.com or by sending me an inbox message on Facebook. Winner of each PPV receives a coveted (and NEVER duplicated) Gold Star in my latest column.

Well, that does it for us, class. On behalf of my peers on WrestleView I bid you farewell. We will be taking a 2 week break (unlike the NFL we don?t get a long offseason) and will be back (though might be late because of Valentine’s Day) for our predictions for TNA’s Against All Odds.

As always, thank you for reading our predictions. Now go enjoy the Rumble class! You are all???DISMISSED!!
