WWE reportedly makes a number of cuts over the weekend including longtime announcer

WWE releases numerous staff including Tony Chimel

WWE made several cuts to their behind the scenes staff over the weekend, including a longtime employee.

According to a new report by PWInsider, WWE released a number of staff on Friday, including former ring announcer Tony Chimel.

Chimel, a family friend of Gorilla Monsoon and his son, Joey Marella, began working for WWE in 1991. He is best known as the longtime ring announcer for SmackDown. In recent years, he has been working as a production manager, overseeing the ring crew.

Derek Casselman, the Director of Venue Merchandise, who began working for the company in 1993, was also released.

It is not known if these are full releases from the company or just furloughs.
