3/5 WWE Results: Albuquerque, New Mexico
Adam Merrick sent this report in:
WWE returns to Albuquerque, New Mexico and the Tingley Coliseum for the first time in over two years with the SmackDown brand! Tingley was about 3/4 filled for the show.
Chavo Guerrero vs. Tyler Reks
Before the match, Chavo grabs the mic and shouts “Viva La Raza!,” which fires up the crowd in his corner. Reks dominated for much of the match, specifically working Chavo’s left arm in every way possible. While going for a superplex, Reks is reversed by Chavo, thrown to the mat, and hit with the Frog Splash for the upset win!
WINNER: Chavo Guerrero
Chris Masters vs. Jack Swagger
On his way to the ring, Swagger gets instant heat by coming out wearing on sombrero and trying to follow Chavo’s lead by shouting “Viva La Raza!” on the mic. Lots of back and forth between the two, with Masters making multiple attempts to lock in the Master Lock but in the end, it was Swagger’s Ankle Lock that won the bout.
WINNER: Jack Swagger
Before the next match, Kelly Kelly is introduced and awards a kid with the opportunity to be the guest timekeeper if they can answer who is hosting WrestleMania XXVII.
Curt Hawkins vs. Percy Watson
It took a while for the crowd to get into this contest as nobody seemed to be familiar with either Superstar but Watson eventually earned the fans cheers. The ending came quick and sudden after “Showtime” planted Hawkins with a jumping neckbreaker for the W.
WINNER: Percy Watson
Tag Team Championship Match:
Justin Gabriel & Heath Slater (Champions) w/Ezekiel Jackson vs. Kane & Christian
During the contest when Christian tagged in Kane for the first time, Gabriel tried to tag out to Slater but he refused, not wanting any piece of the Big Red Monster. The Tag Team Champions worked well together in isolating “Captain Charisma” but he eventually tagged in a hot Kane who cleaned house. While looking to pick up the victory, Kane was attacked by Big Zeke who caused the disqualification win for the challengers.
WINNERS by disqualification: Kane & Christian
Intercontinental Championship Match:
Kofi Kingston (Champion) vs. Drew McIntyre
Before Kofi came out, McIntyre got on the mic and put over how much he hated America, which prompted the crowd to chant “U-S-A!” throughout the match. Kofi hit all of his signature moves against his opponent and eventualy retained his title with the Trouble in Paradise.
WINNER and STILL Intercontinental Champion: Kofi Kingston
Kelly came out once again and threw out t-shirts to the crowd.
–INTERMISSION–
Beth Phoenix & Rosa Mendes vs. Layla & Kaitlyn
Layla is really good at playing the coward here and proved it once again tonight with her dodging Beth during the opening moments. While Rosa was in the match, Layla & Kaitlyn kept tagging in and out to wear her down but when The Glamazon eventually got tagged in, it was Kaitlyn who fell to the Glam Slam.
WINNERS: Beth Phoenix & Rosa Mendes
After the match, Layla & Kaitlyn attacked the winners from behind, leaving Hornswoggle to make the save by not only biting Layla in the behind, but also nailing both Divas with Stunners before celebrating with Beth & Phoenix.
Big Show vs. Wade Barrett w/The Corre
Before the match begins, it is announced that GM Theodore Long has banned The Corre from ringside, which leads to all the members of the unit to cause a raucous. But when the ref is knocked down, Gabriel, Slater & Jackson return to help their leader beat down Big Show until Kofi, Christian, Chavo & Watson run out to make the save. With everybody cleared out, Big Show slams Barrett down with the Chokeslam to gain the victory.
WINNER: Big Show
World Heavyweight Championship Match:
Edge (Champion) vs. Rey Mysterio
After the ring introductions, Cody Rhodes comes out and interrupts and is followed by Alberto Del Rio. Edge suggests to the pair (who he calls Hannibal Lecter & the Dos Equis guy) that they meet their WrestleMania opponents in a tag team match instead.
Alberto Del Rio & Cody Rhodes vs. Edge & Rey Mysterio
It took almost 15 minutes for there to be any action in the ring as both Del Rio & Rhodes refused to get in the ring, being chased by their opponents throughout the ringside area but when the match finally started, they were able to dominate. At one point, Del Rio had Mysterio up on the turnbuckle and tried pulling off his mask but Mysterio knocked him down and his mask actually slipped off long enough for you to catch a glimpse of his face. Edge gets the hot tag in the end and after a 619 from Mysterio on Cody, nails the Spear to win the main event.
