John Cena praises MJF for being ‘a class act’

Speaking as a guest on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, John Cena recounted meeting MJF last December.

At the premiere of The Iron Claw, the A24 film about the Von Erich family, the former WWE Champion and then-AEW World Champion met on the red carpet and posed for a photo together.

Cena said he was aware of MJF being at the premiere, admitting that he would not have associated with someone from another company in the past before stating:

“I still am WWE, but there is room for competition and competition is great. And just because you don’t wear the company brand I have doesn’t mean you’re a bad performer.”

Cena went on to explain that he attended the premiere of his friend Zac Efron, who portrays Kevin Von Erich in the film.

Detailing his experience meeting MJF, who served as an executive producer of the film and portrayed Lance Von Erich, Cena stated:

“[MJF] couldn’t have been nicer. He couldn’t have been more cordial. And we meet each other and I got pulled away to take some pictures. And then we were about to go do everything else before I even got to you. And I was like, hold on, give me two minutes. I shook his hand.

I said, ‘Man, I’m so sorry. Excuse my ignorance, I didn’t know what to expect from you today. You are a class act, I can’t believe you’re as professional as you are. That’s just my ignorance. I’m sorry I had that judgment, I want to thank you for being so special, thanks for making my night.'”

MJF has not appeared for AEW since losing the World Championship to Samoa Joe at the Worlds End pay-per-view last December, and is currently sidelined with a torn labrum sustained prior to the event.
