PPV Predictions: WWE Extreme Rules 2011

Predictions from the Faculty
WWE Extreme Rules Edition
April 29, 2012
Predictions by: Wrestleview Columnists and Staff
Written by: Anthony J. Valvo of Wrestleview.com

Introduction

Welcome to Round #6 of “Predictions from the Faculty” (Season #4). The weekend, we gathered our thoughts for the upcoming WWE Pay-Per-View, as we will provide our selections for WWE’s Extreme Rules. The event will be held at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois.

The card currently will have seven matches. We will count the Pre-Show match since it was presented days in advance.

In case you are new to reading these predictions, here is the format. Each Pay-Per-View a few of the columnists, recappers, and radio hosts at Wrestleview provide predictions on who they think will win the matches. We accumulate the records throughout the end of the Faculty’s year (in this case the 2013 Royal Rumble or WrestleMania XXIX).

What makes this entirely different from the others is that you, the readers, can provide your picks for a spot to have your posted in an upcoming PPV. You can participate by contacting my in any means under the “Dismissal” portion of the piece. The winner among the “Wrestleview Students” will win an opportunity to post their picks as a “Student of the Week” (if they outright defeat the reigning Students of the Week). We thank you for your participation.

Tie-Breakers will determine standings!

I have decided last season in order to break tiebreakers, I will issue points to Title Matches that are predicted correctly. There will be FIVE championship matches on the card, so the maximum amount of points to go along with the win/loss standings will be FIVE points. Also, if I throw out a pick for a championship, then obviously no bonus will be counted for that particular match.

But wait, there is more!

I got approval for this decision last year, and for the second time in our four seasons the “students” will compete for prizes! That is right; we felt that your loyalty shall be rewarded. However, the prizes* will not be handed out until the FINAL PPV Prediction of the season. So not only will one get a chance to earn a personal Gold Star and be a part of this game, but it will be for a friendly competition.

*Prizes go out to the top three (the most picked correctly and if needed tiebreaker points) positions and the worst (most matches picked incorrectly with the fewest tiebreaker points).

Predictions for WWE Extreme Rules

(Note: N/A means that a person’s picks are “not available” at the moment).

NON-TITLE MATCHES

Falls Count Anywhere Match
Randy Orton vs. Kane

Josh B. – ORTON.

Nick G. – ORTON.

Evan O. – RANDY ORTON.

Anthony V. – ORTON. I think the feud ends soon and since Kane got his PPV win at Mania it makes sense that Orton wins this to win the battle. Kane has nothing to lose at this point anyway.

Dave S. – N/A.

Jose M. – N/A.

Jason N. – ORTON.

Greg M. – RANDY ORTON; I don’t see this continuing any longer. Orton will RKO Kane onto some kind of weapon, and put this feud to bed. Good times.

Matt O. – ORTON.

Darragh O. – RANDY ORTON.

Grash – ORTON.

Mike T. – N/A.

Ryan R. – ORTON.

Damon C. – N/A.

Jordan B. – ORTON.

CONSENSUS: ORTON 11-0. Last month, Orton was the predicted winner and he lost to Kane. Will Kane win two PPVs in a row against “The Viper”? None of us truly believe that. If you are new at this game, go with Orton.

Extreme Rules Match
John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar

Josh B. – LESNAR.

Nick G. – LESNAR.

Evan O. – BROCK LESNAR.

Anthony V. – LESNAR. As a fan, I want Cena to win but it will be unlikely. It is a good story to demoralize Cena for a few months and show that he is not invincible and “win every match” like the dense fan believes.

Dave S. – N/A.

Jose M. – N/A.

Jason N. – LESNAR.

Greg M. – BROCK LESNAR; Lesnar’s marketability is exclusively based on his aura. Now’s the time to amplify it, not deflate it.

Matt O. – LESNAR.

Darragh O. – BROCK LESNAR.

Grash – LESNAR.

Mike T. – N/A.

Ryan R. – LESNAR.

Damon C. – N/A.

Jordan B. – LESNAR.

CONSENSUS: LESNAR 11-0. Let’s face it class, Cena is going to lose tonight. Lesnar enters the ring like a lion, and will leave as the top dog in professional wrestling right now with this victory.

CHAMPIONSHIP MATCHES

(Pre-Show match will count since it was advertised days in advance)

Pre-Show Singles Match for the WWE United States Championship
Santino Marella (c) vs. The Miz

Josh B. – THE MIZ.

Nick G. – SANTINO.

Evan O. – SANTINO.

Anthony V. – THE MIZ. I am going back to WrestleMania with this. Miz was on Team Johnny. Santino was captain of Team Teddy. Johnny has all the power so expect a change here.

Dave S. – N/A.

Jose M. – N/A.

Jason N. – SANTINO.

Greg M. – SANTINO MARELLA; I really like the pre-show idea, and wouldn’t be opposed to a title changing hands on Youtube. This just isn’t the time for it.

Matt O. – SANTINO.

Darragh O. – THE MIZ.

Grash – MIZ.

Mike T. – N/A.

Ryan R. – SANTINO.

Damon C. – N/A.

Jordan B. – THE MIZ.

CONSENSUS: SANTINO 6-5. So, the most unpredictable match of the night will be seen on YouTube? It was almost a split decision, but the staff gave the slight edge to the champion to escape yet another challenger thrown to him by the Raw and Smackdown General Manager.

Singles Match for the WWE Divas Championship
Nikki Bella (c) vs. Beth Phoenix

Josh B. – NIKKI.

Nick G. – BELLA.

Evan O. – NIKKI BELLA.

Anthony V. – NIKKI. With Beth’s “injury” I think it will buckle again and Nikki wins the re-match. Expect Nikki to lose the title on Monday.

Dave S. – N/A.

Jose M. – N/A.

Jason N. – NIKKI BELLA.

Greg M. – NIKKI BELLA; NIKKI~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!

Matt O. – BELLA.

Darragh O. – BETH PHOENIX.

Grash – NIKKI BELLA.

Mike T. – N/A.

Ryan R. – NIKKI BELLA.

Damon C. – N/A.

Jordan B. – NIKKI.

CONSENSUS: BELLA 10-1. Though there are rumors surrounding The Bella Twins, the staff still predicts that Nikki will hold on to the title…for now.

Unknown Stipulation Match for the WWE Intercontinental Championship
The Big Show (c) vs. Cody Rhodes

Josh B. – BIG SHOW.

Nick G. – CODY.

Evan O. – BIG SHOW.

Anthony V. – BIG SHOW. He just won the title and I don’t think his run is over at this moment.

Dave S. – N/A.

Jose M. – N/A.

Jason N. – THE BIG SHOW.

Greg M. – BIG SHOW; Over/under on Big Show’s title reign is the end of the next PPV. That’s the time frame for an elevatory transition.

Matt O. – SHOW.

Darragh O. – THE BIG SHOW.

Grash – BIG SHOW.

Mike T. – N/A.

Ryan R. – BIG SHOW.

Damon C. – N/A.

Jordan B. – BIG SHOW.

CONSENSUS: BIG SHOW 10-1. The majority predicts that the “World’s Largest Athlete” will handle whatever that wheel throws at him to retain the Intercontinental Championship.

Two out of Three Falls Match for the World Heavyweight Championship
Sheamus (c) vs. Daniel Bryan

Josh B. – SHEAMUS.

Nick G. – SHEAMUS.

Evan O. – SHEAMUS.

Anthony V. – SHEAMUS. It will be awkward because I am certain fans will cheer more for Bryan than Sheamus, but what I predict will be a 2 falls-to-zero victory for Sheamus. I hope I am wrong though.

Dave S. – N/A.

Jose M. – N/A.

Jason N. – SHEAMUS.

Greg M. – SHEAMUS; Time to get the WHC distraction out of the way for Bryan, and for Sheamus to move onto an opponent that’s actually going to pay attention to him.

Matt O. – SHEAMUS.

Darragh O. – SHEAMUS.

Grash – SHEAMUS.

Mike T. – N/A.

Ryan R. – SHEAMUS.

Damon C. – N/A.

Jordan B. – SHEAMUS.

CONSENSUS: SHEAMUS 11-0. It could be best of 3, 5 or even 7 and the staff would easily pick the champ to retain his newly-won championship (yet all we can say is YES YES YES). Regardless of how many falls this will go, Sheamus will retain.

Chicago Street Fight for the WWE World Championship
CM Punk (c) vs. Chris Jericho

Josh B. – PUNK.

Nick G. – PUNK.

Evan O. – CM PUNK.

Anthony V. – JERICHO. I really feel that this is the real start of the “People Power” movement in which our hated dictator of a Raw GM will do anything and everything to his current champion so he can declare Jericho the winner. It won’t be smart to do this in Punk’s hometown, but it is a possibility.

Dave S. – N/A.

Jose M. – N/A.

Jason N. – PUNK

Greg M. – CHRIS JERICHO; Punk escaped the home town curse last summer. This time, he won’t be so lucky.

Matt O. – PUNK.

Darragh O. – CM PUNK.

Grash – PUNK.

Mike T. – N/A.

Ryan R. – PUNK.

Damon C. – N/A.

Jordan B. – PUNK.

CONSENSUS: PUNK 9-2. There is a little bit of doubt with this World Title match, but thanks in part to the hometown advantage the vast majority predict that Jericho will be defeated by the hands of the champion.
