New poll shows McMahon keeping lead over Murphy

According to a new Quinnipiac University poll released on Tuesday, former WWE CEO Linda McMahon (Republican) has continued to keep a lead over Christopher Murphy (Democrat) in the polls 49% to 46%. McMahon also holds a 54% to 42% lead over Murphy among men, while Murphy holds a 50% to 46% lead among women. Among Republicans, McMahon leads 88% to 10%. Among independents, McMahon holds a 55% to 40% lead. Murphy strongly holds Democrats 82% to 16%.

Quinnipiac University Poll Director Douglas Schwartz, PhD commented on the poll results.

“The poll is good news for Linda McMahon. In our first likely voter poll in Connecticut, McMahon has a 3 point advantage in a too-close-to-call-race. Her edge is due to her double- digit lead among independent voters and being close among women, a group she struggled with in her 2010 run. McMahon has worked on her image in the last two years, and it shows. Voters like her more now than they did when she faced Richard Blumenthal in 2010.”

Murphy’s campaign wasted no time sending out an email responding to the numbers.

“This morning, the second straight public poll, this time from Quinnipiac University, showed us trailing by three points, 49-46. With unlimited resources, Linda McMahon is basically operating as her own Super PAC. If we’re going to flip these numbers, we’ll need your help to fight back against the flood of misleading attack ads. Can I count on you to contribute $10 today? http://www.chrismurphy.com/important It’s how we respond as a team — right now — that will make all the difference when the votes are cast.”
