Predictions: WWE Extreme Rules

Predictions from the Faculty Lounge
PPV:
WWE Extreme Rules (June 7)
Written by: Anthony J. Valvo
Predictions by: WrestleView.com staff and readers

Greetings, students and readers alike! This is the time that the faculty goes EXTREME!!!!! Predicting the WWE’s Extreme Rules pay-per-view that is. Well, as most of you students already know this is the time where the WrestleView columnists and recap specialists predict the outcomes of each match on a particular card. This weekend, we are going to make predictions for WWE’s Extreme Rules.

Well, this weekend can be a very interesting one in the faculty. For the second time this year, Joe Baiamonte is the Dean of WrestleView after scoring an impressive 5-3 record in predicting the matches for TNA Sacrifice. The tie was broken when Baiamonte predicted a victory for Angelina Love, while ex-Dean David Stephens predicted Awesome Kong. These two perennial candidates for Dean have to look real careful at the rearview mirror because there is a storm coming from the third place position. TNA recapper and columnist for ?Viva La Raza? Josh Boutwell continues his ongoing success at making his predictions, finishing with a 6-2 mark for Sacrifice and is only TWO games behind Baiamonte and Stephens for first place and the coveted Dean’s chair on ?Predictions from the Faculty.

So, before you read these predictions, think to yourself who can become the Dean of WrestleView after Extreme Rules. Will it be our Hunter S. Thompson of WrestleView (Dean Baiamonte), The ECW guru (Ex-Dean Stephens), or will it be Mr. TNA and winningest predictor over the past 2 months (Prof. Boutwell)? Also, with another decent showing from the WrestleView students, it may be sooner than later that the Students run the classroom. Only time will tell. So please students, pull up a chair and enjoy this special Sunday school presentation of Predictions from the Faculty.

Before I go on, I want to welcome a former student of ours that has been awarded a member of the faculty due to his recaps of TNA Epics. I am so proud of this student, as he graduates Mr. V’s class with the highest of honors and is officially a member of the WrestleView Faculty. Please welcome for the first time?.Mr. Chris Kelly.

Also, we welcome to the faculty a long-time recap specialist. Professor Mike Tedesco, who provides awesome recaps of Smackdown and WWE Superstars, is now a member of the faculty and will be presenting his predictions as well, starting with this weekend’s Extreme Rules! Welcome to the faculty lounge, Prof. Tedesco.

Finally, after a long wait I formally welcome Professor Ryan Droste into our faculty. Like myself, he too is a teacher in the of the United States. Welcome to the Faculty this week, Prof. Droste.

So, we have THREE new members into the faculty. We all wish them well and may their debuts be better than that of Scotty Goldman, Kizarny, Manu, and the infamous Braden Walker. Good Luck!!

Currently, students, there are eight matches on tonight’s PPV card. Here are our predictions to who will win each match and how they will win it.

And again class, the following predictions does not reflect anyone in the management part of WrestleView.com (someone told me they have their own predictions game now, it is catching on), the WrestleView VIP section, and its affiliates.

Before we present our picks, let’s present the standings once again as of TNA Sacrifice:

14) Ryan Droste (Ask WV)…..Debuts TONIGHT!! (Present)
15) Mike Tedesco (Smackdown & WWE S.S. recaps)…..Debuts TONIGHT!!(Present)

Once again, to all faculty members and students who made their picks for this weekend, I would like to say good luck and may the best person win.

Well, as of 4:00 AM EST Joe Baiamonte has not provided the Faculty with his selections. If he gets them up, then I will count them. If he does not, then we are guaranteed a NEW DEAN OF WRESTLEVIEW!! And if that is the case, stakes are raised for our #2 and #3 ranked faculty members.

**Predicted Winner in CAPS**

NON TITLE MATCHES

SUBMISSION MATCH
John Cena vs. Big Show

David S. – I really do like Cena, but they have been over building the impossibility of him being able to lock the STF(U?) on Big Show. We’ve seen him lock it on The Great Khali, and JOHN CENA will make Show tap out!

Josh B. – JOHN CENA. Come on, they are not about to pass up a chance to have Cena make the largest athlete in the biz tap out.

Anthony V. – This one is going to be pretty tough to predict. Correct me if I am wrong, but didn?t Cena apply the STFU to Show once when Show was under 450 lbs.? Well, tough call here but Show needs to go over so Cena can shut the Miz up once and for all. BIG SHOW wins with possible help from the Chick Magnet.

Jose M. – I am probably going to screw this up but I am going with the BIG SHOW simply because it is a submission match and not a I quit match which means he doesn?t technically have to make Cena submit but rather knock him out which we have seen he can do. I think Big Show really needs to win a match or else god knows where he winds up after this.

Matt O. – CENA

Phil C. – CENA

Josh P. – Last time I called out The Big Show as being the winner, but it ended up being John Cena. I think Cena will repeat as winner at this month’s PPV as well so I’m going to go with the WWE’s poster child, JOHN CENA

Doug L. – BIG SHOW via the biggest and sloppiest Camel Clutch known to mankind. It’s usually a typical sign that Cena would win his upcoming pay-per-view match when he has beaten down Monday in and Monday out building the predictable underdog outcome… not this time. Creative’s looking to build a bigger and darker contest between these two at Summerslam.

Chris K. – This match is being built around the fact Cena can?t lock in the STF so I?m predicting Show will boss Cena around and Cena will use some object to lock in a massive STF for the win. CENA

Ryan D. – CENA. I just can’t fathom Show getting the better of Cena again on PPV this year.

Mike T. – I’m actually quite intrigued by this match. It should be pretty good. Not positive on who’s going to win but I could see them giving this to John Cena after he’s able to lock on the STF. My official pick is JOHN CENA but since they’ve been playing up that he’s been beat up and injured a lot I could see Big Show holding the submission on and Cena passes out but never quits a la the WrestleMania 13 Submission Match ending.

Consensus – Wow, 11 of us voting? That might be even better than our WrestleMania predictions. Moving on, the Faculty has predicted a real strong showing for the face of the WWE (whether we like it or not), JOHN CENA. By an 8-3 vote, we are banking that Cena finds a way to make Big Show tap out or pass out.

SAMOAN STRAP MATCH
CM Punk vs. Umaga

David S. – Last month I was the only one to pick CM Punk as winner and it really hurt me in the standings. I’m not going to make that mistake twice (please don’t let me be the only one picking Chancey Magmar Punk (It’s like Punk the pokemon (do you have a better explanation for the intials? (didn’t think so (sorry about all the paranthesis Mr. V!))))) CM PUNK for the win because I can’t possibly be wrong twice. **MR. V’s TAKE: hahaha, well done, David on the parentheses, well done**

Josh B. – PUNK. This is the rubber match, as Umaga has one win and Punk has one. This stipulation doesn’t add a whole lot to the match in my opinion but I see Punk taking this one.

Anthony V. – CM Punk won the Money in the Bank, and Umaga has destroyed him every opportunity since then. And last month, Umaga did beat Punk in his hometown. This month, I say that CM PUNK wins in Umaga’s specialty, the Samoan Strap Match.

Jose M. – Umaga went over last month so CM PUNK has to go over this month besides if anyone is going to get released next I would not be surprised to see it be Umaga since WWE seems to have run out of ideas for him.

Matt O. – PUNK

Phil C. – PUNK

Josh P. – CM Punk hasn’t been doing too well on PPV against big men. He already got a win over Umaga on free television and I think that’s as far as it goes. Mr. Money in the Bank will get screwed over again. UMAGA

Doug L. – CM PUNK via pinfall after whipping Umaga’s abnormally gargantuan back. Same theory is in place with match as in Cena/Show… Look for another contest between these two but for MITB… that outcome of that could go either way.

Chris K. – Same as Y2J/Rey, Since Umaga won last match, CM wins setting up a 3rd match for the MITB case. CM PUNK.

Ryan D. – PUNK. Just don’t see Umaga going over here, although it’s conceivable that he could as a surprise. We’ll see.

Mike T. – I’m really liking CM PUNK in this one. It’s a tough call to make since they gave Punk the clean win on Smackdown but I’m going to go with my gut and just take him anyway. Besides, how many guys ever win matches that are gimmicked after them? Khali has yet to win a Punjabi Prison and Undertaker’s Buried Alive record is less than stellar. I’m just saying!

Consensus – Last PPV, only David Stephens picked CM Punk. Sure, Umaga had the upper hand in the past but CM PUNK is on a roll after a win last Friday and, if we are right, WILL win this Samoan Strap match. CM Punk is the predicted winner by a vote of 10-1, Josh Piedra being the only man to pick the Samoan Bulldozer.

TITLE MATCHES

HOG PEN MATCH (For Miss WrestleMania Crown)
Vickie Guerrero (Miss WM) vs. Santina Marella

David S. – I don’t even care. This whole feud is f’ed up. I’m only picking on the 50/50 chance it helps my rankings. I really want to boycott this crap. I’m flipping a quarter, heads its Santina, tails Vickie. It’s tails so I pick VICKIE and wash my hands of this disgrace.

Josh B. – VICKIE. Wow, this will be SUPER bad. Chavo and somebody else probably will interfere in some way.

Anthony V. – In what will be the Greatest Match in 2009 (I placed Italics to be sarcastic)..Forget it I am predicting this match to be worse than Booker T vs. Shane Sewell. The fans will not win, and anyone who pays to see this match in particular disgust me. With that, I will say that VICKIE wins with help, but it will be sloppy and Santino/a will make fun of her for yet another week.

Jose M. – SANTINA MARELLA and does anyone really care about this match?

Matt O. – SANTINA

Phil C. – GUERRERO, but she’ll end up in the slop, too.

Josh P. – For whatever reason, I can see Santina winning the Miss Wrestlemania crown back. This is nothing more than comical filler. SANTINA MARELLA

Doug L. – VICKIE via 2 minutes of comic relief. We all need a good laugh, and seeing Santino/a flopping around a pigpen might just do the trick.

Chris K. – Least said sbout this the better. SANTINA

Ryan D. – MARELLA. Not much to say about this one, other than they could sure use Marella better than this garbage.

Mike T. – This is the one waste of time on the card. I see VICKIE winning this one with assistance but expect to see her and possibly Chavo eating slop with the pigs after this match ends.

Consensus – Boy, talk about an ugly contest. A man that looks like a woman (Marella) and a woman that looks like, well, you fill in the blank (Ms. Excuse Me). I am sure we cringed at the fact we had to pick this contest, but we are equal opportunity predictors and we went with it. Anyways, expect Vickie to be in the slop with nephew Chavo, and Santina being humiliated in the process. In a split decision, we predict that Vickie will continue her reign as Miss WrestleMania by way of a 6-5 vote.

FATAL 4-WAY (For United States Championship)
Kofi Kingston (c) vs. William Regal vs. Matt Hardy vs. MVP

David S. – Well I haven’t been following this feud at all. I really know nothing about it. What I do know is that Kofi doesn’t have a strong enough personality to keep a Title feud going if he loses it in a 4-Way. So I’m giving KOFI KINGSTON the victory.

Josh B. – KOFI. Kofi just won the belt and I don’t see him dropping it this early but this should be an excited bout.

Anthony V. – MVP dropped the US Title so he can get that main push in time for the Bash or even SummerSlam (if HHH is not back by then). Regal is there to put his seven minutes in and is not a threat. That leaves Matt Hardy and Kofi Kingston. I think due to his impressive performance at WrestleMania, KOFI KINGSTON finds a way to win this match after Matt Hardy accidentally hits Regal with the cast.

Jose M. – I still don?t see Kofi Kingston as being a long term champion of any kind despite how great he is in the ring he still can?t cut a promo. I think if WWE is going to use Matt Hardy at all or if he is really going to just fall off the face of the earth after his feud with Jeff now is the time to do so I am going to give this match to MATT HARDY.

Matt O. – MATT HARDY

Phil C. – KINGSTON

Josh P. – MVP is out… he’s going to be moving on to bigger and better things (fingers crossed). William Regal just seems like a prop and Matt Hardy has been given the most attention with his cast, but I think the popularity of Kofi Kingston will continue to be nurtured here. KOFI KINGSTON

Doug L. – KOFI via same result as his Triple Threat match to become the #1 contender. I envision Matt whiffing on the cast but this time nailing MVP, bringing back a rivalry that we might be able to enjoy without the pizza-eating contests and HORSE games.

Chris K. – Seeing as Kofi just won it, I believe he will keep it with MVP going to the main even and Regal feuding with Matt. KOFI.

Ryan D. – MVP. Perhaps the toughest match of the night to predict. This one could honestly go any direction, so this is a shot in the dark.

Mike T. – Kofi will have been champion for six days at the PPV so I don’t see him being vanquished just yet. KOFI KINGSTON will still be your United States Champion.

Consensus – We applaud Kofi Kingston’s Monday Night Raw victory over MVP first off. Second off, a 4-way dance as your first title defense can be really challenging. We should know that all involved are secondary champions, but never won world gold. That is interesting to know. First off, we show no love to William Regal. Though he will get in his trademark holds and moves, he will not walk out as champion. Montel Vontavious Porter did get one vote from Prof. Droste, and it would be interesting to see MVP with another US Title reign, though it is unlikely according to our Faculty. Two faculty members chose the man with the cast, Matt Hardy. They believe that Matt needs to be rewarded after his intense feud with his brother and giving him a second US Title reign will help him out immensely. However, most of the faculty members believe that KOFI KINGSTON will retain in this demanding contest, garnering 8 of our votes. Let the Kofi Nation continue. Votes: Kofi 8, Matt 2, MVP 1, Regal 0.

NO HOLDS BARRED MATCH (For Intercontinental Championship)
Rey Mysterio (c) vs. Chris Jericho

David S. – For the sake of the belt I want REY REY to hold on and not give Jericho his unprecedented eighth reign, it more fun to see him with an angry monkey face.

Josh B. – JERICHO. I see this as a long running feud between the two and Jericho needs a win to keep it hot. This should be crazy.

Anthony V. – This will be awesome! Rey usually works best when he is facing guys under 250 lbs., and that fits Jericho. Jericho is the perfect heel (hated by kids AND British Columbia fans as well) and fits with this program very nicely. It will be fun, intense, and will hit its spots deliciously. I think Rey will drop the belt to CHRIS JERICHO, but the mask will not be taken off this weekend. Besides, I really, REALLY want Jericho vs. Morrison for the IC belt next PPV.

Jose M. – CHRIS JERICHO gets the win and the title here.

Matt O. – JERICHO

Phil C. – JERICHO

Josh P. – It was a toss up for me between Rey and Jericho last time that they met and it was kind of hard to pick, but I still see Jericho as a more viable IC Champion than Rey Misterio. CHRIS JERICHO

Doug L. – JERICHO via cheat win. This will be the gem of the entire evening and I will give the bold, clever, and predictable assumption that Rey will lose his cool at some point… a chair will be involved… feet on ropes for leverage probably will be also…

Chris K. – With Rey winning at the last PPV I can see Y2J winning to make it 1-1 with a grudge match with the stip Belt vs Mask. Y2J.

Ryan D. – MYSTERIO. This is more of a personal preference with my prediction, as I would like to see this feud drawn out with more matches on the horizon. Jericho chasing is the best way to this IMO.

Mike T. – They’ve had some tremendous segments on Smackdown these past few weeks and I expect a hell of a match as a result. Considering the talent involved you can put money on that. I also mentioned in the SD recap that Mysterio is moving better than I’ve seen him in a long time. I’ve got to go with JERICHO in this one, though.

Consensus – In one of the best matches on the Extreme Rules card, we see a NEW Intercontinental Champion, as CHRIS JERICHO took a large portion of the Faculty’s votes, winning with an easy 9-2 margin. However, do not expect Jericho to be fully satisfied as he will not take the luchador mask of Rey Mysterio’s on this particular day.

HARDCORE TRIPLE THREAT MATCH (For ECW Championship)
Christian (c) vs. Jack Swagger vs. Tommy Dreamer

David S. – This is the match I have been following closely. From information gleaned from Dreamer interviews and some e-mails I’ve recieved I’m going to trust my sources and let the Dream weaver hang his ECW boots up for a bit. The guy was adamant that he isn’t retired, just leaving ECW if he loses. I’d say that Swagger should get screwed to continue his feud with CHRISTIAN.

Josh B. – CHRISTIAN. Dreamer would be the sentimental pick but I think ‘Captain Charisma’ takes it in another excited bout.

Anthony V. – First off, Swagger is not going to win this title until The Bash in a few weeks. I said it last month and I will say it again. Wow, this is going to take a while to pick this one?..(7 minutes later)..ok, I made a decision! I know this is going to sound clich?, but I am going to do it anyway. I think Dreamer will stay in the WWE in some management position after his ?contract? runs out. This weekend will not be his swan song. It’s been years, but TOMMY DREAMER overcomes the odds and wins the big silver belt!!

Jose M. – TOMMY DREAMER shocks everyone and becomes ECW Champion.

Matt O. – DREAMER

Phil C. – DREAMER in an upset.

Josh P. – Jack Swagger just seems like a prop in this match. Christian is still on a role, but the main spotlight is on Tommy Dreamer. A match with Dreamer in it is actually hard to predict! First time I could say that since Heyman’s ECW. I don’t know where they are going to go with this, but it screams either Dreamer winning or being the one getting pinned. Screw it… TOMMY DREAMER

Doug L. – SWAGGER via cleaning up after Dreamer and Christian wail on each other. I don’t think I need to explain that any further, do I?

Chris K. – Christian will cheat to win pinning Tommy so dreamer is “screwed” out of the belt and his Career which leads to Dreamer retuning as a heel GM or turning Christian heel. CHRISTIAN.

Ryan D. – DREAMER. Another tough call. I’m going with Dreamer just because this is the former One Night Stand PPV, and Dreamer has to get the belt at some point. This would seemingly be the best card to do it at, although they may drag it on for quite a few months too. If I actually watched ECW more than 20% of the time, I could give you a better prediction on this one.

Mike T. – I’d love to go with the sentimental pick of Tommy Dreamer but I’m going with CHRISTIAN retaining in this one, getting the pin on Tommy Dreamer. Jack Swagger won’t get pinned and he’ll continue his quest for the title that he feels he never lost cleanly.

Consensus – Very interesting, Very, VERY interesting! Students, the faculty mainly do a secret ballot (Mr. V types his picks first and then reads the rest of them and post them in this column) and we smell an upset in the works. First off, only one member of the Faculty picked Jack Swagger and I think it is a great pick on his part. Four others selected Christian to keep his title after a hard earned battle. However, in the surprise of the year from the Faculty we are predicting that TOMMY DREAMER will NOT retire!! Mr. Dreamer received six of the Faculty’s votes. Don?t be surprised in general if it is Dreamer’s last match in the WWE, but also don?t be surprised if Dreamer becomes an ECW Champion one more time, either!! You heard it hear first. Overall: DREAMER 6, Christian 4, Swagger 1.

LADDER MATCH (For World Heavyweight Championship)
Edge (c) vs. Jeff Hardy

David S. – EDGE shall retain as per my magic polar bear’s preference.

Josh B. – EDGE. This could be Match of the Night and they FINALLY put Edge and Jeff in a Ladder Match during this feud, it took them long enough but this should be great.

Anthony V. – The match of the night, in my opinion! A lot of high-risks will be done here and none of them will be botched hopefully. Now I hear that Jeff’s contract ends at the END of the month, so that makes the prediction a little more difficult. Still, I believe that the extreme opportunist overcomes Jeff’s specialty match. I will say that EDGE continues his title reign.

Jose M. – You know for quite a long time I have felt the best thing WWE could do is turn CM Punk heel and set up a program between him and Jeff Hardy using Hardy’s past drug history and CM Punks old ROH gimmick of being better than everyone because he is straight edge. I think the time for that to happen is here especially if Hardy just wants time off. Have JEFF HARDY win this match with Edge have CM Punk cash in his briefcase and turn heel I cant think of a better way to have CM Punk turn heel.

Matt O. – EDGE

Phil C. – EDGE

Josh P. – Will Edge break the curse of not being able to hold a major title for more than three months? I don’t know, but I have a feeling that this time, the curse might just be broken. EDGE

Doug L. – EDGE just because I’m going off of the promotional posters leaked for Night of Champions. I’m just imagining the dream sequence of Jeff winning the title but then the bell ringing… Umaga cashing in MITB… and obliterating Jeff… That’ll answer any questions about Jeff’s status in contract talks, huh?

Chris K. – This match will be a spot fest with Edge beating Hardy and possibly “injuring” him to write him out of the storylines. EDGE

Ryan D. – EDGE. With all the rumors going on about Hardy as of late, as well as Edge being featured on an upcoming PPV poster with the belt, I’m going safe on this one and taking Edge. Should be the match of the night one would think.

Mike T. – This is going to be a hell of a match and it’s one I just can’t wait for. I’ve really enjoyed their stuff on Smackdown over the past month (as well as the past ten years). Everyone knows that Jeff Hardy will be taking some time off from WWE, possibly ending this run at the Bash, so the probable thought would be to go for Edge in this one but I think WWE is going to pull a fast one and make Jeff Hardy the winner. Perhaps CM Punk will cash in his MITB at The Bash and take it there? That’d be tremendous. Official pick: JEFF HARDY!

Consensus – Rumor is now that Jeff Hardy’s contract does not expire until the end of June. Will they put the strap on Jeff Hardy to lure him into re-signing a contract? Only time will tell, and two of our members think that Hardy will become a two-time World Champion! However, most of the Faculty members went to the RATED R SUPERSTAR, EDGE in this match. As Edge said in his promos ?Jeff may make big-time highlight reel moves and wow the audience, but I always win?. The faculty agrees, Edge, The faculty agrees. EDGE 9-2.

STEEL CAGE MATCH (For WWE Championship)
Randy Orton (c) vs. Batista

David S. – Is it pure coincidence that ORTON and “steel” have the same number of letters?!? I think not.

Josh B. – ORTON. Orton needs a big win to get back his momentum and a big win over Batista in a Cage would do that. Last time Batista was in a Cage for the belt it didn’t work out so well for him and I think that trend continues.

Anthony V. – I don?t see Batista winning this?at all! RANDY ORTON defends this title in the easiest prediction in the match.

Jose M. – RANDY ORTON wins this match setting up a potential Batista heel turn.

Matt O. – ORTON

Phil C. – ORTON

Josh P. – Randy Orton still has so much potential as WWE Champion and I can’t see them putting the championship on Batista at this point. Batista is just being served up as early cannon fodder for what should be a lengthy run as champion. RANDY ORTON

Doug L. – ORTON via who the hell knows! Pick your poison… Flair getting involved and double-crossing Batista or whiffing and causing a rift between the two… Triple H returning to double-cross Batista because it was supposed to be his title shot… Legacy inserting themselves for the typical 3-man beatdown… choice is yours but my money is on Orton.

Chris K. – I just see no way Orton will drop the belt as he is super hot right now. ORTON.

Ryan D. – ORTON. Orton has been losing some steam lately IMO, and WWE loves to put the belt back on a guy who is fresh off a long absense from injury. BUT, one would think they will continue their feud past this PPV, and Batista chasing after Orton who keeps winning by cheating should be the way to go. But then again, things that make sense don’t alway happen. This is a crapshoot that could go either way.

Mike T. – As evidenced on Raw, Batista can’t even climb a cage. I don’t see him being able to take the title from Orton in this one. RANDY ORTON will still be the champ.

Consensus – Well in the only unanimous selection, we do not see a title change in this contest. In a whitewash, 11-0, we are all going with RANDY ORTON to retain the WWE Spinner World Championship Title!
