AAA

Drama Over Mistico Name
A couple of weeks ago a poster turned up promoting an Indy show that featured a slew of AAA wrestlers, but one of the headliners was a local wrestler called “Mistico Negro.” The notable thing about this is the Indy promotion actually used a picture of ex-CMLL star Mistico in a very shady deal. Dorian Roldan of AAA got wind of this and it actually pissed him off to the point that he pulled all of AAA’s talent from the show and he said that AAA does not approve of “character stealing” (something they have gotten mad at CMLL over for doing in the past).

* NOTES *
– The live iPPV never worked… at all. People paid $15 to watch a blank screen. Absolutely horrific way to have your very first iPPV go, but with all the problems promotions have had with iPPV’s over time (including WWE) it makes it pretty ridiculous that AAA would have their first time doing it be at the biggest show of the year. You would think they would have at least tested it out beforehand, and word is Arena Ciudad is a state of the art arena with WiFi. AAA never bothered to explain what the problem was (except blaming UStream) or what they would do to remedy it (refunds, replays, etc.) the entire 3 hours. Later on in the night Dorian Roldan did address the situation via Twitter afterward and said that refunds would be given out and the PPV was going to be put up on the AAA website to make good. This is a horrendous blow for AAA and this is the very reason I refused to order it this go around. Now, that they have had this horrible failure I don’t think I’ll be ordering the next one (if they do a next iPPV at all) either.
– The Tag Titles came down to the team of Drago & Fenix and Crazy Boy & Lider. Crazy pinned Drago with a Piledriver and then Vampiro came out and presented Mexican Powers with the titles. Konnan came out and argued with Vampiro.
– Jarrett got the pin for his team and Karen argued with Marisela Pena during the match. Supposedly Karen almost had a wardrobe malfunction too.
– Not only was the World Title not the Main Event or Semi-Main Event for even 3rd from the top. It was a midcard match. Ray Mendoza Jr. (you know the guy that’s supposed to be retired…again?) came out after the match and challenged Texano to a Title Match “down the line” which was accepted. Mendoza said he needed time to get into condition because of his retirement.
– L.A. Park made a surprise appearance after the Latin American Title Match and handed Demon the belt. He “announced” that he was leaving AAA (though he’s already left) but it begs the question, if you could get him to show up at the show why not just have him actually drop the belt on the way out? It makes no sense.
– UFC’s Erek Perez didn’t appear for the Legends Match and Octagon claimed it was because of a knee injury. Wagner pinned Universo.
– Lots of interference in a bloody Main Event. Ciber looked to have the match won but the referee was knocked out. Eventually Perro Doubled Stomped Ciber for the pin and then dedicated the win to Hector Garza before Ciber got his head shaved.
– Abismo Negro was inducted into the AAA Hall of Fame.
– AAA has posted TripleMania in full on Youtube now: http://www.youtube.com/user/luchalibreaaatv/videos

Ultimo Dragon Graphic Novel Coming Soon
It was announced this week that a graphic novel based around legendary Luchador/Japanese wrestler Ultimo Dragon will be debuting at the Anime Expo in Los Angeles (July 4-7, 2013) called “Ultimo Dragon: The Graphic Novel.” Dan Madigan who also helmed the “Viva la Lucha” Documentary and is a former WWE writer (and he also wrote the “See No Evil” film starring Kane) is behind the venture along with Dragon himself and illustrators Wil Woods & Tyrine Carver. Madigan also wrote one of my favorite Lucha Libre based books “Mondo Lucha A Go-Go” as well. The story in the novel will not revolve around a wrestler or wrestler turned superhero like many wrestler based comics have been, but will be based around Dragon’s mask and it having the power much like Green Lantern’s ring. They hope to get it funded via Kickstarter.
