March 29th: Go to the bottom of this release for a look at the EVOLVE and DGUSA lineups at WrestleCon.

March 29th: Johnny Gargano passed 500 days as DGUSA Open The Freedom Gate Champion this week. Gargano’s story is inspirational. He started out on the very first DGUSA show on the Bonus Card. He impressed and was then given one small opportunity after another. He slowly climbed up the card until he made his first major impression by taking CIMA to the limit at the First Anniversary Show. The first turning point of his career came after the match when CIMA did not shake his hand.

From there, “The Whole Shebang” became a major player by forming Ronin with Chuck Taylor & Rich Swann. However, Gargano’s immature attitude was holding him back. Two more turning point moments made him the man he is today. The first was when CIMA led Blood Warriors to attack Ronin at the beginning of 2010. The second came when he saved then DGUSA Champion YAMATO from an attack and picked up the Open The Freedom Gate Title belt that summer. It was then that Gargano realized he could be Champion one day. He then worked harder than anyone on the DGUSA roster, matured, got in better shape, studied his craft and improved his skills. He ended YAMATO’s remarkable title reign at Freedom Fight 2011 in one of the most dramatic matches in DGUSA history.

Since that time Gargano has embodied the word Champion. He has defended the title from Japan to England. He has worked tirelessly with the media to promote DGUSA and EVOLVE. He has given people special moments like at EVOLVE 13. In the ring, he has had one memorable title defense after another. He has displayed pure wrestling skill against the likes of Masato Yoshino at Open The Ultimate Gate 2012. He has gone to war in violent feuds against Jon Davis and Chuck Taylor. He has been in hard-hitting battles, particularly against Akira Tozawa at Untouchable 2012. He has persevered through high-flying contests, especially against AR Fox at EVOLVE 13. He even survived the DGUSA Match Of The Year at Freedom Fight 2012 in a Four Way Elimination Match against Tozawa, Fox and Ricochet.

Gargano has struggled through a back injury that landed him in the hospital after EVOLVE 10. He has been beaten and run down. He has always overcome the odds and fought back with all his heart. Now the DGUSA Open The Freedom Gate Title is his identity.

On April 6th, Gargano faces his toughest test yet in Shingo. Is the title reign wearing him down as seen by his pinfall loss in a tag match at the last set of DGUSA events? Is Shingo too much for him? Can he overcome another obstacle? We’ll find out on April 6th. In the meantime, please take a few minutes and see why Johnny Gargano is one of the best promos in wrestling today.

SHINGO.
