Mistico’s WWE Press Conference
At WWE’s Press Conference they officially announced the signing of Mistico and made it VERY clear that this was THE one and only Mistico, but his new name was revealed as “Sin Cara” (No Face). During the week Wrestling Observer revealed that WWE planned to bring Mistico straight to the main roster rather than have him down in FCW due primarily to the fact that they spent so much money on him (and probably wanting to go off the buzz Mistico’s signing has gained by Mexican and Mexican-American fans and the internet alike). Sin Cara debuted his new mask which is very similar to his Mistico mask, actually it looks alot like the Mistico/Averno combo mask, with some slight changes. Here’s the two in comparison:
– Sin Cara:

– Mistico rudo mask:

As you can see the mask is almost identical, with the only differences being a slight change in the design of the horns, the colors, and the eye holes are filled in with fabric which is something Mistico’s mask has never had. He’s always had the eye holes in his masks. WWE went all out on this signing holding the big press conference alongside Jim Ross. Ross paid Mistico the ultimate compliment saying that he had no doubt Mistico would be a huge global star for WWE and that this is the first time he has ever felt so confident about a WWE signing. Coming from the man that signed guys like The Rock, Triple-H, and Stone Cold for the WWE that is a huge statement. Sin Cara addressed the fans and thanked CMLL, and said that he would be representing all of Mexico in the WWE. He said he didn’t know which brand he would end up on (maybe RAW first to get him noticed by more people and then to Smackdown). Mistico actually walked out tot he Press Conference wearing his Mistico mask before pulling it off to reveal the new mask. Also, fans chanted “Misterio” at Sin Cara as he left the podium. This signing has been done 100% completely the opposite of how they signed Dos Caras in 2009. He had no fanfare and was quietly sent to FCW where his mask was then removed. Mistico on the otherhand, got a huge Press Conference with a WWE Hall of Famer introducing him, WWE put up a big press release on their site (and had his mask plastered all over the front page of WWE.com), and they even immediately opened a Facebook for Sin Cara (http://www.facebook.com/wwesincara). WWE is pushing Mistico and we can only hope that this continues. We should hopefully see him on TV very soon. One of the more interesting stories that have come out in the last few weeks is that SUPPOSEDLY Alberto del Rio (formerly Dos Caras Jr. in CMLL) actually contacted CMLL several months ago and told them that Mistico planned to sign with the WWE. Supposeldy del Rio wants to be the biggest Mexican star in the WWE and he sees Mistico as someone who might hinder that. Now, if this is true or not I have no idea. More pics from the Press Conference are below (courtesy of WWE.com):

CMLL

CMLL Press Conferences

Today CMLL and the WWE held dueling Press Conferences in Mexico City. While CMLL’s was about the “Dos Leyendas” card in March, Mistico still was addressed. WWE’s was mainly about Mistico. CMLL finally admitted that Mistico had left the promotion, but assured that they did own the name and the likeness/gimmick. They said that they would be putting another luchador under the mask (they claimed it would be someone in their Wrestling School but it’s still likely going to be Magnus) and are patterning it after the Tiger Mask gimmick in Japan. So it will be Mistico II rather than them attempting to claim that it’s the same wrestler. CMLL also confirmed that they attempted to re-sign Mistico after the announcing of him signing with WWE (which makes little sense). They then moved onto the card for “Dos Leyendas” which will feature the father-son tandem of Brazo de Plata & Maximo facing El Terrible & Texano Jr. in a Double Hair vs. Hair Match. Also, in a Hair vs. Hair Match Demus 3:16 will face Virus in a battle of former Minis, but an added stipulation to the match will see the loser RETURNING to the Minis Division! Demus has only been in the regular-sized divisions since last year while Virus has been there since late 1997. Also announced at the Press Conference was Averno defending the CMLL Historic Middleweight Title/NWA World Middleweight Title against Mascara Dorada with the added stipulation that if Mascara wins then he gets his Mask vs. Mask Match with Averno down the line! No date for the title match was set. Mr. Niebla also appeared at the press conference announcing his official return.

Magnus Literally Taking Mistico’s Spot
After Magnus debuted his new Mistico-lite ring gear last week he will officially be taking Mistico’s spot on several shows this weekend. CMLL had still be advertising Mistico for these events and some thought that Mistico may actually wrestle at the shows in kind of a way to finish out his time in CMLL, but now Magnus is listed in those spots.

Mr. Niebla Returning in March
Last week Mr. Niebla did an interview with SuperLuchas (from CMLL’s offices) were he says that he will make his return to Arena Mexico on the 03/04 event. The past year has been very inconsistent for Niebla who has returned and left again many times with the excuse being his knees while rumors have said he has been suspended several times by CMLL.

DRAGON GATE

Dragon Gate Web Magazine Review

I finally had a chance to completely read the first issue of Dragon Gate’s new English web magazine. It’s by far the best wrestling related web magazine I’ve seen so far and is absolutely PERFECT for new Dragon Gate fans as the 1st issue introduces the history of Dragon Gate as well as the histories of all of the Dragon Gate Titles, and even has biographies on all the stars on the roster. Plus, there is show recaps and some unbelievable photos of all the stars and events. This is a definite must for Dragon Gate fans or Lucha/Puro fans in general, to buy the Web Magazine visit the link below:

INDY & OTHER NEWS

A New Rey Misterio?

A new “Hijo de Rey Misterio” is being advertised online by Rey Misterio Sr. for bookings that is NOT the Hijo de Rey Misterio that has been wrestling under that name for several years. Rey Misterio does have another younger son and most are thinking this is him. It’s kind of odd for Misterio to yank the name from his other son like this, but nobody is really speaking about it.

CHIKARA Adds More Teams to King of Trios
CHIKARA has added a few more Trios Teams to April’s King of Trios Tournament. So far there is 10 teams, with 6 more to be named. CMLL announced that they had signed two new teams to the Tournament. A trio out of Australia consisting of Tama Williams, Percy, & Kabel, as well as one from the Orient. Michinoku Pro will be sending 3 Japanese legends to represent their promotion. Michinoku Pro founder and Japanese legend Great Sasuke will be captaining the team which will also feature former WWE star Jinsei Shinzaki (wrestled as Hakushi in WWE in the 90’s) and Dick Togo (who will be making his FINAL American appearances here before his retirement)! The trios announced so far are below:
– Mike Quackenbush, Jigsaw, & Manami Toyota
– The Colony (Green Ant, Fire Ant, & Soldier Ant)
– F.I.S.T. (Icarus, Chuck Taylor, & Johnny Gargano)
– The Osirian Portal (Ophidian, Amasis, & Hieracon)
– Da Soul Touchaz (Acid Jaz, Marshe Rockett, & Willie Richardson)
– The Throwbacks (Dasher Hatfield, Sugar Dunkerton, & Matt Classic)
– The Batiri (Sinn Bodhi, Obariyon, & Kodama)
– BDK (Tim Donst, TBA, & TBA)
– Team Australia (Tama Williams, Percy, & Kabel)

LL-USA 02/19 “Masked Warriors” TV Tapings Albuquerque, NM Results
1) LL-USA Tag Team Titles: El Oriental & Tinieblas Jr. (c) def. Charly Malice & Rocky Romero via DQ to retain the titles!
2) Marco Corleone & Shane Helms def. Lizmark Jr. & Sydistiko
3) Tag Team Ladder Match: Magno & Super Nova def. Petey Williams & RJ Brewer
4) Battle Royal: L.A. Park def. Octagoncito, Chi Chi, Ultimo Dragoncito, Tigresa Caliente, Mascarita Dorada, Pequeno Halloween, Mini Park, ODB, & Mini Super Raton
5) Shane Helms def. Sydistiko via DQ
6) Mascarita Dorada & Mr. Griegos def. Pequeno Halloween & Vladamiro
7) L.A. Park def. Petey Williams
* NOTES *
– RJ Brewer came out to start the show with a camo bag and claimed that he had stolen the masks of Super Nova & Magno because they are “bad for our country” and he hung them above the ring on a hook.
– Malice had Oriental in the El Pozo but the two masked men who were attacking teams at the last tapings came out and attacked the champs resulting in them retaining the belts via DQ.
– Helms hit the Hurrichokeslam on Sydistiko to win the Tag Match for he and Marco. Marco challenged Lizmark to a LL-USA Title Match afterward.
– The Ladder Match was said to have been extremely good. Nova & Magno pulled down the bag only to find that a Piñata was in it. Apparently they were wearing different masks during the match.
– Park and Chi Chi supposedly had some “entertaining” comedy spots in the Battle Royal.
– After what was said to have been a great match between Helms & Sydistiko, Sydistiko was DQ’d after an intentional low blow. He then beat the hell out of Helms with a chair working on the arm. Marco ran out for the save.
– The Semi-Main probably won’t end up on TV since Mr. Griegos is a teacher at the University of New Mexico.
– Park pinned Williams clean in the Main Event.
– This looks like it will end up being 2 different episodes and this was the 3rd taping so for for Season 2 so that would mean that 8 episodes (if my count is right) are already in the can. It’s starting to get a little ridiculous. I mean they’re already advertising ANOTHER TV Taping in March yet they still haven’t announced a start date for Season 2 on MVT2. I’m kind of starting to think we may not ever see Season 2. Even if Season 2 started, lets say, in March that means the first episodes will be almost 4 months old.
