Abyss Not Coming to AAA

This week the Wrestling Observer reported that TNA has pulled 1/2 of the AAA Tag Team Champions, Abyss, from the 06/30 TV Tapings (no reason given) but will be sending someone to replace him. AAA is supposedly interested in bringing in Robbie E & Robbie T (do not ask me why other than Robbie T is a big guy).

INDY & OTHER NEWS

CHIKARA Star Appears in TNA, More Coming?

This week CHIKARA star Jigsaw appeared on TNA’s “Impact Wrestling” taking part in their current X-Division Tournament to sign new X-Division stars. Jigsaw appeared as “Rubix” wearing his usual mask and had a great showing against former TNA star Sonjay Dutt in a losing effort. PWInsider reported that Jigsaw won’t be the last CHIKARA star to appear in this Tournament and that TNA hopes to work out a relationship with CHIKARA to get more X-Division stars as well as have TNA stars appear in TNA.

DG-USA Signs Tag Titles Match
This week Dragon Gate USA announced the plans to name new Open the United Gate Champions at their July events. CIMA & Ricochet never actually lost their belts (having to vacate them at the last DG-USA events due to a CIMA injury) and now that Ricochet & Naruki Doi have been stripped of the belts as well DG-USA will give CIMA & Ricochet the chance to get back the belts they never lost, with one catch. Ricochet & CIMA are no longer partners and no longer in the same stable so instead they will each pick a partner of their choosing and the two teams will face off at the 07/29 Chicago, IL event with the winning team being crowned the new Open the United Gate Champions. CIMA & Ricochet have been given one week to decide on who they are choosing for their partners.

Hernandez Re-Signs with TNA
As PWInsider and we reported earlier this week, TNA star and former AAA star Hernandez re-signed with AAA back on May 17th to a one year extension. I personally confirmed the one year extension with Hernandez myself. Hernandez is also currently running his own Lucha based promotion in Houston, TX and is working on developing his own line of Supplements with G-Power Works as well as filming for a movie in September.

CHIKARA Debuting in Alabama
This weekend CHIKARA announced that they would be making their debut in my home state of Alabama in October (10/06) in Piedmont, AL and smartly scheduled it for Alabama’s bye week for the 2012 season. I am definitely going to be making my best effort to make it up there for my first CHIKARA show but Piedmont is about 4 hours away from me so we’ll see how it goes.

Where Are They Now?! Shocker

After Hector Garza was banned from entering the United States in 2005 (after attempting to take steroids across the border) his spot in TNA Wrestling in America was taken up by former CMLL and AAA star Shocker. At this point Shocker had gained some momentum after appearing in a popular McDonald’s commercial and almost immediately began feuding with Christopher Daniels in TNA over the X-Division Championship. He teamed with Jeff Hardy a few times and then at Lockdown ’05 defeated Chris Sabin, Sonjay Dutt, & Michael Shane in an X-Division Xscape Steel Cage Match to earn a shot at the X-Division Title. He and Daniels had their first encounter at Hard Justice ’05 with Daniels coming out on top. Shocker then began a fun 4 month feud with younger X-Division star Alex Shelley which began with a “Lucha Rules” Match at Slammiversary ’05 with Shocker coming out on top. The feud continued into the 2005 Super X-Cup Tournament where the two met in the 1st Round with this time Shelley coming out on top. The two finally met in the “rubber match” at Sacrifice ’05 with Shelley again coming out on top.

Shocker and Shelley met once again in a Tournament the next month, this time in the Chris Candido Memorial Tag Team Cup. Shocker and Chris Sabin were a team and ended up making it to the finals to face Shelley & Syxx-Pac (Shocker & Sabin defeated the teams of Simon Diamond & Mikey Batts and Sonjay Dutt & Ron Killings along the way). Shelley & Syxx ended up winning that Tournament after Shocker turned on his partner Sabin after the two had several miscommunication problems during the Tournament. Shocker only made sporadic appearances for TNA for the rest of 2005 and then completely disappeared from TNA TV at the end of the year, showing up in AAA more often. Then, in May of 2006 Shocker made his return at the 2006 World X-Cup Tournament captaining Team Mexico with Magno, Incognito, and Puma. WWE fans may know Incognito better as Sin Cara Negro or the current Hunico. Shocker lead Team Mexico to one win in the Tournament as he and Magno teamed up to defeat Eric Young & Johnny Devine of Team Canada in a Tag Team bout but Team Mexico only finished 3rd in the entire Tournament. Shocker once again disappeared from TNA TV and this time for good.

Following his departure from TNA Shocker remained with AAA turning rudo and facing off with Sangre Chicana in a long feud before taking Chicana’s hair at the end of 2006. In 2007 Shocker once again returned to CMLL and has had an up and down relationship with CMLL ever since. He’s won several championships since returning to CMLL but has also no showed several events, been fired at least once, and been suspended multiple times. In 2010 Shocker won the NWA Light Heavyweight Title from Texano Jr. but then less than a week later suffered a bad patellar tendon rupture (the same injury Sin Cara suffered last year) and an MCL tear in his knee. Shocker eventually made a full recovery and actually became one of the stars of A&E Latino’s lucha libre based reality show “El Luchador” along with a few other CMLL stars. Shocker will also take part in Season 2 of “El Luchador.”
