Mistico Drops IWGP Jr. Belt

This past Sunday in Japan Mistico dropped his IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Championship back to the man he won it from, Tiger Mask IV in a match that was said to have been better than their first encounter. Tiger Mask got the win via submission (getting revenge for Mistico submitting him earlier this year) at around 12 minutes with an armbar. This was Mistico’s 3rd title defense and this is Tiger Mask’s 6th time holding the championship (only behind Jushin Thunder Liger’s 11 title reigns).

CMLL Rumors
This past weekend website/magazine Luchas 2000 sat down with CMLL official (and booker) Juan Manuel Mar and asked him about the rumors of Hijo del Rey Mysterio and Tinieblas Jr. coming into CMLL. Juan said that Mysterio was, in fact, training in CMLL’s Mexico City gym and would be debuting with the company soon, but shot down the Tinieblas Jr. rumor saying that they have no plan on bringing him back in. He did say, however, that Tinieblas Jr. has spoke to CMLL about using CMLL talent on some INDY shows he is promoting.

November Match Spotlight
NWA World Middleweight Championship
Averno (c) w/Virus vs. Volador Jr. w/El Hijo del Fantasma
October 24, 2009
First Fall
Virus is in the corner of the champion, Averno, while Hijo el Fantasma (the reigning CMLL Middleweight & Trios Champion) is in the corner of the challenger, Volador. They do the usual pre-match pictures with the title belt and shake hands before the bell. Averno & Volador tie up and then Averno shoves Volador off and backs into the corner. They tie up again this time Averno gets the advantage with a duck under and then a waistlock. Averno slams Volador to the mat but then Volador reaches up and grabs Averno by the wrist and then nips up and arm drags Averno! They tie up again this time it’s the test of strength and Averno sweeps the legs of Averno and forces him to the mat for a nearfall. Averno keeps the Greco-Roman Knuckelock on the whole time and goes to splash Volador, but he gets his feet up and then lifts himself up in the air and Monkey Flips Averno! Volador and Averno hold onto each others hands still and nearly get double pinned. Volador rolls backwards onto his feet and lifts Averno up (still with the Knuckelock) but Averno counters with a Monkey Flip of his own. Volador lands on his feet and they stare each other down as the fans get into it. Averno comes off the ropes but Volador leapfrogs him and then goes for a Monkey Flip but Averno flips over him and then Volador goes for a hurricanrana. Averno shoves him off and Volador lands on his feet and then hits the Spinning Headscissors Takeover! Averno falls out to the floor and Volador dives through the ropes with the Plancha Suicida onto Averno on the floor! Volador and Averno both get back into the ring and then Volador goes for another Spinning Headscissors but eats a Front Face Slam instead! Averno follows up with the Devil’s Wings! 1?2?3 and Averno wins the first fall!
Winner of 1st fall: Averno via pinfall (Averno leads 1-0)
Second Fall
The 2nd fall begins with Averno running the ropes and Volador leapfrogging him and then he hits a hurricanrarna. Averno comes back with a front kick and then charges at Volador but he backdrops Averno over the top. Averno lands on his feet and then hits a forearm on Volador and climbs to the top. Averno hits a Missile Dropkick that sends Volador crashing to the floor! Averno follows up with a beautiful Somersault Plancha over the top onto Volador on the floor! Volador drags himself back into the ring as Averno is already in. Averno charges over at Volador but he springboards back into the ring with a gorgeous Springboard Flying Cross Body! Volador then rolls up Averno’s body into the Over the Shoulders Sunset Flip! 1?2?3!
Winner of 2nd Fall: Volador Jr. via pinfall (tied up 1-1)
Third Fall
The 3rd fall kicks off with both men winded but trying to get the crowd further into it. Volador shows his speed running the ropes and hits a backhand spring off the ropes. As Volador lands Averno goes for a clothesline but Volador ducks and leaps to the shoulders of Averno. Averno catches him and goes for a Spinning Sidewalk Slam, but Volador counters into a Spinning Headscissorsr Takeover! Averno bails out to the floor and Volador immediately follows him out with a gorgeous Somersault Plancha of his own! Fantasma and Virus try to help their guys out on the floor. Volador gets back into the ring and shortly after Averno climbs back in the ring only to get Hiptossed right back over the top rope to the floor! Volador hits the Quebrada (Asai Moonsault) off the middle rope onto Averno on the floor! Volador rolls back into the ring followed by Averno. Volador is on his knees catching a breather as he doesn?t see Averno sliding back into the ring so Averno grabs him and puts him in a Rear Chinlock while pulling him back into Averno’s knees at the same time! Volador almost gives up but is able to fight it. Averno backdrops a charging Volador over the top but again Volador lands on his feet. Volador blocks a right from Averno and connects with one of his own. Volador climbs up top but Averno quickly climbs up with him and hits a Superplex! Averno hits a Scoop Slam and then climbs back up top. Averno goes for a Senton Bomb but Volador moves and then quickly covers Averno! 1?2?NO Averno kicks out! Volador drags Averno closer to the corner and then climbs up top! Volador goes for a Moonsault but Averno gets his boots up and Volador eats every bit of them! Averno rolls him up, 1?2?NO Volador kicks out! Averno is trying to get the crowd behind him as both men seem exhausted. Averno charges at Volador but gets backdropped over the top. Averno lands on his feet and then lights up Volador’s chest with a big chop. Averno climbs up top and Volador follows him up! Volador connects with the Spanish Fly! 1?2?NO Averno barely kicked out! Both men fight to their feet and Averno goes for a Running Dropkick but Volador sidestepped it and then goes for a hurricanrana, but Averno reverses it into a big Powerbomb! Averno uses his feet for leverage as he goes for the pin, 1?2?NO the referee sees the feet on the rope! Averno argues with the referee and Volador rolls him up! 1?2?NO Averno kicks out! Averno charges at Volador but he catches Averno and lifts him up onto the top rope and then lights Averno up with a series of stiff chops. Volador climbs up top but as he’s climbing up Averno catches him out of nowhere with a Super Devil’s Wings off the top! It’s over! 1?2?NO Volador kicked out! Averno cannot believe it! Averno goes for the La Magistral but Volador blocks it and hits one of his own! 1?2?NO Averno barely kicks out too! Volador runs the ropes and does another back handspring but eats a dropkick to the back in midair! Averno quickly hooks Volador and connects with the Devil’s Wings! As Volador hit the mat he stayed on his knees and shook his head so Averno nailed him with a second Devil’s Wings! Averno then hooks Volador and hits a 3rd Devil’s Wings! Holy crap! 1?2?and your damn right its over?3! After the match they shake hands and Averno even raises the arm of Volador.
Winner & STILL NWA Middleweight Champ: Averno via 2 falls to 1
(What a match. Really a great match. Averno & Volador have great chemistry together and they really built the finish up throughout the match especially with Volador just refusing to be pinned in the 3rd. The nearfalls were awesome and some great high spots as well. I think Volador needs a solid Singles Title win though. ****)
