PPV Predictions: WWE Extreme Rules 2011

Predictions from the Faculty
WWE Extreme Rules PPV
May 1, 2011
Predictions by: Wrestleview Columnists and Staff
Written by: Anthony J. Valvo of Wrestleview.com

Introduction

Welcome to the latest edition of “Predictions from the Faculty” (Season #3). This weekend, we gathered our thoughts for the upcoming WWE Pay-Per-View, as we will provide our selections for WWE Extreme Rules 2011. The show will be held in Tampa, FL.

The card currently will have six matches. Each match will be contested, in one way or form, under “Extreme Rules”.

In case you are new to reading these predictions, here is the format. Each Pay-Per-View a few of the columnists on WrestleView provide predictions on who they think will win the matches. We accumulate throughout the end of the Faculty’s year (in this case, the 2012 Royal Rumble).

What makes this entirely different to others is that you, the reader, can provide your picks for a spot to have yours posted in an upcoming PPV. All the readers have to do is either leave me a message on Facebook or e-mail at mistervwv@hotmail.com. The winner among the “WrestleView Students” will win an opportunity to post their picks under the “Student of the Week” tab in the predictions standings (if they outright defeat the Students of the Week). We all thank you for your participation.

New: Tie-Breakers will determine standings!

I have decided to prevent some tiebreakers, I will issue points to Title Matches that are predicted correctly. There are two championship matches on the card, so the maximum amount of points to go along with the win/loss standing will be two points. Also, if I throw out a pick for a championship, then obviously no bonus will be counted for that particular match.

But what, to the WrestleView “students”, there is more!

I got approval for this decision, and for the FIRST time in our three seasons the students will compete for PRIZES!!! That is right, we felt that your loyalty to the article shall be rewarded. However, the prizes will not be handed out until the FINAL PPV Prediction of the season (which will be WWE’s Royal Rumble 2012). So not only will one get a chance to earn a Gold Star and be a part of this game, but it will be for a competition.

The WrestleView Staff Standings

Last PPV, Mike Tedesco broke the tie in the standings to be the leader of the predictions. And while there were different sets of predictions by each member of the staff a couple weeks ago, the standings went pretty much unchanged. Also, Mr. Tedesco should not look behind him, as we have at least four other staff members within two wins from the leader. Still, everyone has done a great job with the predictions so far and with months to go, it is anyone’s contest.

2011-2012 Predictions From the Faculty Roster (as of TNA Lockdown)

1) Mike Tedesco (WWE Smackdown Recapper)…………………………………..23-12 (5-3)

10) Evan O’Brien (WV International Desk)………………………………………………..19-16 (5-3)

Tie-Breaker Points – Which are based on Championship matches correct

10: Mike Tedesco
9: Josh Boutwell
8: Nicholas Gray; Ryan Rivera; CJ Bowman; Anthony Valvo; Dave Stephens
7: Josh Boutwell; Jose Marrero; Evan O’Brien ; Gregory Walek
6: Matt O’Brien
5: Greg McNeish
4: Darraugh O’Connor

And of course, the WV Students average will be part of the standings. I have taken out the “Students of the Week” for this season. However, do not worry. Those that scored the highest will still be welcomed to participate in an upcoming article.

This weekend, our Student of the Week will be Jason Namako. Mr. Nomako earned the 6-2 record for TNA’s Lockdown while everyone else scored lower than him. Unless someone beats Mr. Namako this week

The Best of the Class (Top 3 earn a prize. Tie-Breaker Points in parentheses)

Prizes:

1st Place – A DVD Set of our choosing.
2nd Place – A T-Shirt
3rd Place – A Coffee Mug
Worst – TNA Victory Road 2009 (or 2011) DVD.

(W/L from TNA’s Victory Road is in first parentheses)
(Tiebreaker Points are in second)

1) Brandon Ewing………………………………………………25-10 (5-3) (9) – #1
2) Jason Namako…………………………………………………24-11 (6-2) (9) – Tie for #2
3) Travis Thomas………………………………………………….24-11 (5-3) (9) –Tie for #2
4) Paul Meade……………………………………………………24-11 (4-4) (8) – #3

There are so many still in contention, so if you would like to know your standing send me an e-mail and I will be more than happy to let you know where you stand.

One WrestleView Student is in sole position of the basement (aka last place and most incorrect predictions). The “Student” was informed of this. The worse record stands at 19-16.

Also to those that have participated in all PPVs, keep it up. This by all means is nowhere close to being over! Don’t give up!

And now, the moment you all have been waiting for…

Predictions for WWE Extreme Rules 2011

*** NON-CHAMPIONSHIP MATCHES ***

No Disqualification/No Countout Match in which the loser leaves the WWE.
Layla vs. Michelle McCool

Mike T. – LAYLA.

Josh B. – LAYLA.

Dave S. – LAYLA.

Ryan R. – LAYLA.

Nicholas G. – LAYLA.

Jose M. – LAYLA.

Matt O. – LAYLA.

Anthony V. – LAYLA. It was originally a tossup and if not for the McCool rumors I would have went with her because of the lack of heel among Smackdown divas. But if the rumors are true, I am going with Layla.

Evan O. – LAYLA.

Gregory W. – LAYLA.

Greg M. – LAYLA.

Clinton B. – LAYLA.

Darraugh O. – LAYLA.

Jason N. – LAYLA over McCool.

CONSENSUS: LAYLA. With Michelle McCool rumored to depart it makes perfect sense that the WWE gives Layla the victory over her former friend.

LAYLA 14; Michelle McCool 0.

Tag Team Country Whipping Match
Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler vs. Jack Swagger and Michael Cole

Mike T. – JIM ROSS AND JERRY LAWLER.

Josh B. – JR AND LAWLER.

Dave S. – JERRY LAWLER AND JIM ROSS.

Ryan R. – JIM ROSS AND JERRY LAWLER.

Nicholas G. – TEAM LAWLER.

Jose M. – KING AND ROSS.

Matt O. – RO/LAW.

Anthony V. – ROSS AND LAWLER. I can see Cole and Swagger winning just so Cole can run his mouth more and more about his is great. But after Smackdown this week and Cole getting in Swagger’s face, it is pretty obvious that Lawler and Ross will cause Cole to be defeated.

Evan O. – JR AND JERRY LAWLER.

Gregory W. – JACK SWAGGER AND MICHAEL COLE.

Greg M. – ROSS & LAWLER; Time to put this feud to bed, with King finally going over.  Swagger turning here gets a solid maybe.

Clinton B. – JR/KING.

Darraugh O. – JIM ROSS AND JERRY LAWLER.

Jason N. – JR AND KING over Swagger and Cole in Country Whippin.

CONSENSUS: JIM ROSS AND JERRY LAWLER. After Cole won via “GM Mail” at WrestleMania, the WrestleView Staff predicts that Lawler (as well as Jim Ross) get their revenge after all of Cole’s antics.

JIM ROSS AND JERRY LAWLER 13; Jack Swagger and Michael Cole 1.

Last Man Standing Match
CM Punk vs. Randy Orton

Mike T. – CM PUNK.

Josh B. – ORTON.

Dave S. – CM PUNK.

Ryan R. – CM PUNK.

Nicholas G. – ORTON…Cuz he’s a ssnake and he’s catching a mouse.

Jose M. – RANDY ORTON.

Matt O. – CM PUNK.

Anthony V. – CM PUNK. If it was just a regular match, I would have went the other way. But with Orton going to another brand and Punk trying to lead a faction on Raw, I think Nexus runs in and helps Punk win the match.

Evan O. – CM PUNK.

Gregory W. – RANDY ORTON.

Greg M. – CM PUNK; Orton doesn’t need the win, as he’ll be a hot pickup for SD regardless.  Punk can use this to jumpstart a late spring program with John Cena, after their teaser feud in January.

Clinton B. – ORTON.

Darraugh O. – CM PUNK.

Jason N. – ORTON over Punk in Last Man Standing.

CONSENSUS: CM PUNK. Orton got a few votes from the staff because some (along with others around the WWE “Universe”) think that Orton will end the feud with an RKO. However, most of the WrestleView staff choose CM Punk because of his associates in The New Nexus.

CM PUNK 8; Randy Orton 6.

Falls Count Anywhere Match
Cody Rhodes vs. Rey Mysterio

Mike T. – CODY RHODES.

Josh B. – CODY.

Dave S. – REY MYSTERIO.

Ryan R. – RHODES.

Nicholas G. – REY.

Jose M. – REY MYSTERIO.

Matt O. – REY MYSTERIO.

Anthony V. – MYSTERIO. Usually when Mysterio feuds with anyone, he is the one that wins in the end. It’s happened probably 95% of the time. Thought it would benefit Rhodes, I think Rey ends the war victorious.

Evan O. – REY MYSTERIO.

Gregory W. – CODY RHODES.

Greg M. – REY MYSTERIO; Evening things out after Mania.  Rhodes has already gotten his rub, and Rey could use a bit of a boost, heading into a higher profile position on RAW.

Clinton B. – REY MYSTERIO.

Darraugh O. – REY MYSTERIO.

Jason N. – MYSTERIO over Rhodes in Falls Count Anywhere.

CONSENSUS: MYSTERIO. Most of the leaders among the staff are going with Cody Rhodes to defeat Mysterio. However, the majority of the staff is going with Mysterio to end this feud on a winning note.

REY MYSTERIO 10; Cody Rhodes 4.

*** CHAMPIONSHIP MATCHES ***

Ladder Match for the World Heavyweight Championship (currently vacant)
Christian vs. Alberto Del Rio

Mike T. – CHRISTIAN.

Josh B. – CHRISTIAN.

Dave S. – CHRISTIAN.

Ryan R. – CHRISTIAN.

Nicholas G. – CHRISTIAN.

Jose M. – ALBERTO DEL RIO.

Matt O. – DEL RIO.

Anthony V. – CHRISTIAN. As much as I want to see Del Rio win it, I have been a fan of Christian’s for years. If Christian wins it, it will be well-deserved. If not, I am not going to be frustrated about it. But I say give the title to the WWE veteran (because Del Rio is a veteran as well in a way) and let him be the hunted on Smackdown.

Evan O. – CHRISTIAN.

Gregory W. – CHRISTIAN.

Greg M. – CHRISTIAN; Easiest pick on the card.  Smackdown needs a belt.

Clinton B. – CHRISTIAN.

Darraugh O. – CHRISTIAN.

Jason N. – CHRISTIAN over Del Rio to win vacant world title in Ladder.

CONSENSUS: CHRISTIAN. What a perfect way to give Christian a championship. The championship is a Smackdown title and Raw has Del Rio. So, most of the staff chooses “Captain Charisma” as the World Heavyweight Champion.

CHRISTIAN 12; Alberto Del Rio 2.

Steel Cage Match for the WWE World Championship
The Miz (c) vs. John Cena vs. John Morrison

Mike T. – THE MIZ.

Josh B. – THE MIZ.

Dave S. – THE MIZ.

Ryan R. – THE MIZ.

Nicholas G. – MIZ.

Jose M. – THE MIZ.

Matt O. – MIZ.

Anthony V. – THE MIZ. Keep the ball rolling with the champ. Cena may win this, but The Miz is right now the best thing the WWE has right now to keep the Raw product fresh. I will predict that Miz pins Morrison for the win and sets up something down the road between Miz and Cena once again.

Evan O. – THE MIZ.

Gregory W. – CENA.

Greg M. – JOHN CENA; I’ll be cool with missing this one, just so long as Morrison stays championship-free.  Cena’s going to walk away from this Miz program with the title, and the time seems right.  They can do the one-on-one rematch at Over the Limit, to put this one to bed.  Drawing this out longer would be overkill.

Clinton B. – THE MIZ.

Darraugh O. – THE MIZ.

Jason N. – MIZ over Cena and Morrison in the Steel Cage to retain the WWE title due to interference by R-Truth.

CONSENSUS: THE MIZ. Outside of a Canadian going with Cena, the rest of the staff easily went with the champion to retain the WWE Championship in the steel cage. Some of the staff may have Cena on the mind, but Morrison will not be expected to win the championship.

THE MIZ 12; John Cena 2; John Morrison 0.
