Smackdown Recap - 5/28/10

WWE Smackdown
May 28, 2010
Cleveland, OH
Report by: Mike Tedesco of Wrestleview.com

"Yes, sir, we promised you a great main event..." The WWE video leads us into the show.

A video plays hyping up the return of the Undertaker to Smackdown. This will be his first appearance on this show since WrestleMania.

The Smackdown video plays and we're brought into the arena with some pyro. Todd Grisham and Matt Striker welcome us to the show and hype up Undertaker as well.

Tony Chimel asks us to welcome the General Manager of Smackdown Theodore R. Long. Raw has Bret Hart and we have Teddy Long. Who's better? Long comes out to his usual crickets and does his dance in the ring. He's just collecting a paycheck. Long says in four weeks WWE will unveil a brand new PPV event called Fatal Four Way. Jack Swagger will defend his title in a fatal four way match. By virtue of his disqualification victory over Jack Swagger on Sunday, Big Show automatically qualifies. The other two participants will be decided tonight in qualifying matches. CM Punk will compete against Kane. Long cracks a joke about Punk being just like him: bald. The man who shaved CM Punk's head, Rey Mysterio, will attempt to qualify when he faces the returning Phenom, the Undertaker!

Drew McIntyre's music hits and he makes his way to the ring in his gear. We see footage from Sunday when Matt Hardy laid McIntyre with the Twist of Fate. McIntyre stares at Long and says he should still be Intercontinental Champion. McIntyre says Long knows that his match against Kofi Kingston at Over the Limit should have been stopped. His arm was lacerated and he was in extreme pain. Long allowed the match to continue. If Long can't do his job right then he'll do it for him.

Long says he knows he's upset about losing the title but that didn't give him the right to trash his office on Sunday. Long says it also doesn't give him the right to interrupt him tonight. McIntyre says he's the chosen one. Long says he understands and says he has something to tell him. When Matt Hardy gets his hands on him... Long suddenly stops talking. McIntyre pulls out an envelope and says that Mr. McMahon demands he read the letter out loud.

"As a result of Matt Hardy's reckless actions after the Intercontinental Championship match at Over the Limit, he is hereby suspended without pay until further notice. Vincent Kennedy McMahon."

McIntyre says he should consider this a warning. If he turns a blind eye to his misfortunes one more time he guarantees the next letter he receives will be informing him of his termination as general manager. Long looks at him and leaves the ring.

Matt Hardy's music hits and he makes his way to the ring. Long cuts him off and talks some sense to him. Long begs him not to get into the ring and security surrounds him. Long begs him to reconsider and he does. The security backs him up as McIntyre says he's the reason Hardy is suspended.

Did you know that WWE has been making wishes come true for kids with the Make-A-Wish Foundation for over 25 years?

Luke Gallows is backstage with Serena. They're talking with CM Punk who has a towel over his head. Serena says everything will be ok and he's still beautiful. Punk says he knows that. He's just worried he'll walk out and the crowd will mock him. Punk says he's better than the crowd. He doesn't care if they mock him. They couldn't humiliate him if they tried. Punk says he'll walk out and rip the towel off his head, exposing the true face of CM Punk.

Vickie Guerrero is in her office with Vance Archer and Curt Hawkins. She yells at them in Spanish for no reason whatsoever. Hawkins says they'll make an impact and she kicks them out. Dolph Ziggler walks in and she turns into mush, thanking him for standing up for her. Ziggler says it was no big deal but she says it meant everything for her. She says she's the official consultant of Smackdown and she puts a finger on his lip to quiet him. She says considering the fact she owes him a favor puts him in a very enviable situation. I watched a sexual harassment video at work and this is what they were talking about! Ziggler says he was disgusted by how they treated her. She says he'll team up with Chavo Guerrero to face Christian and Hornswoggle. Vickie says there's more where that came from. That was so nasty. The camera zooms in on her "Cougar" necklace.

CM Punk comes out with a towel on his head and the Straight Edge Society in tow. Punk makes a few attempts to go backstage but they keep him out there. They help Punk get into the ring. Punk stalls before taking the towel off to reveal a black mask over his face! It's embroidered with the S.E.S. symbol. Charles Robinson, the official for Punk's match (and my favorite referee), is flabbergasted!

Mike's Thoughts

This was a great edition of Smackdown. The Undertaker returned to the show and we had some really good matches.

Undertaker returned and he looks better than ever. He was ultra-tanned and looked relaxed. The guy, for having some bad hips, is still moving really well. He had a great match with Rey Mysterio and it's good to have him back. Undertaker is that huge star that Smackdown has been missing. Big Show's good but he's not at that level.

Speaking of Big Show I thought he looked great in his match tonight. He was incredibly intense and that was easily the best he's looked since making his way over to the blue team. I'm all for jokes in wrestling but in the end to make a story work you have to bring it and tonight Big Show brought it. I'm happy Jack Swagger didn't take the pin as well.

Man I was disappointed that we didn't get to see CM Punk's bald head tonight. The mask was funny but it seems like it affected his work a little bit. To me it looked like he had a little trouble working with it on tonight. The GTS was badly botched by that may have just been the size of Kane. The match dragged a little bit but it wasn't bad. I hope we get to see that bald head soon.

After reading that article on the main page today I just want to reiterate that my one prediction is coming true. I see big things for Dolph Ziggler in 2010. I just wish that big thing wasn't Vickie Guerrero.

Final Rating: ** 3/4
