Steve “Mongo” McMichael moved to hospice care

According to WGN, Chicago Bears legend, Pro Football Hall of Famer and former WCW star Steve “Mongo” McMichael will be moved to hospice care.

WGN notes that a source told them on Wednesday, McMichael is being removed from a ventilator in the ICU and transferred to a hospice care facility.

Back in January 2021, McMichael announced he was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. He has been battling the disease with his wife Misty by his side ever since.

McMichael, was part of the defensive line of the Chicago Bears during their 1985 Super Bowl win. He spent 13 years with the Bears and had the second-most sacks in franchise history, with 92.5. He also set a record with the Bears for the most consecutive games played, which was 191.

After retiring from the NFL, McMichael spent five years in professional wrestling, as part of the now defunct WCW in the mid 1990’s during the battle of pro wrestling supremacy with WCW going head-to-head with then the WWF as part of the Monday Night Wars on cable.
