Deadline is reporting that Augustine Frizzell is set to direct to the Ronda Rousey biopic for Netflix.
The biopic is based on Rousey’s memoirs “My Fight/Your Fight and Our Fight”, which she co-wrote with her sister Maria Burns Ortiz. It is also said that after Rousey looked through various scripts, she shocked her agents and wrote the script herself in just seven days.
The Rousey project was originally set up at Paramount back in 2015, when the studio acquired rights to the first memoir “My Fight/Your Fight.” However, after a number of management changes, the rights ended up getting shelved.
The report further notes that Frizzell who is a fan of Rousey, “came in and blew everyone away” with her take for the film. It was added that sources said Frizzell read both memoirs before she received the call to meet on it and then immediately this was her film to direct.
Both Netflix and Frizzell have a strong relationship, as she is set to direct four of the eight episodes of the upcoming Netflix series The Boroughs, for the streaming service.
