During an appearance at the Boston Fan Expo, John Cena talked about his first foray into acting with the film The Marine, which was released in 2006.
Despite being the film’s featured star and the center of much of its publicity, Cena recalled having other things on his mind at the time:
I didn’t take it seriously. The movie came out in 2006, and I believe it was shot in 2005. I wanted to be world champion. The movie was fun, but I wanted to be elsewhere. That’s a huge takeaway because for me, if you’re not present, then you’re dealing with constant distractions. My heart wasn’t in it.
Now, when I’m on set, I’m there like I would be in a WWE arena, and I’m passionate about my work. You need to be present, and that was my biggest takeaway.
Cena’s in-ring focus would lead him to a record-breaking seventeen world title wins in WWE, his most recent taking place at WrestleMania 41 defeating Cody Rhodes.
The Marine would spawn a franchise of five sequels, with the most recent being released in 2018 in The Marine 6: Close Quarters.
