Report: Son of NXT coach/trainer/producer looking to explore free agency

According to a new report from Fightful Select, former IWGP Global Heavyweight Champion David Finlay looking to explore free agency in the early part of 2026. The report also notes Finlay’s current NJPW contract is set to expire “in the near future” and that he is looking to explore free agency, which includes promotions in the United States, as there is said to be “interest from companies.”

Fightful Select further indicates that Finlay is scheduled to compete at next weekend’s Wrestle Kingdom 20 in Tokyo along with some additional NJPW dates after the event.

The 32-year old Finlay has been a part of NJPW since 2015 and has also held the NEVER Openweight title, the NEVER Openweight Six-Man titles and the IWGP Tag Team titles.

Finlay’s brother Brogan is currently under contract with WWE as part of NXT, wrestling under the name of Uriah Connors. There father is former WCW star Fit Finlay who is a coach/trainer and producer at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida.
