Trey Miguel’s release from AEW reportedly was a WBD decision

Fightful Select has published a report based on multiple media outlets reporting that Trey Miguel was informed his release from AEW was a decision that came from “above AEW”, implicating it was from Warner Bros. Discovery.

The report notes that the reaction backstage was met with one of frustration, as Miguel is said to be well-liked in the locker room, as the The Rascalz have a strong relationship with those in AEW.

Fightful Select also notes several wrestlers privately expressed their concern over what they see as inconsistent standards, saying other high-profile personalities across WBD platforms have said and made controversial remarks without consequences or losing opportunities. It was added that no one within AEW pushed for Miguel to be released from his newly signed deal.

TNA sources told Fightful that Miguel had no known issues during his time in the company and that no one in the company contacted AEW pushing for his removal. Furthermore, a source with much broader knowledge of situation, gave the following statement to Fightful:

“I can’t speak to the validity of rumors, but I can’t say I agree with the decision if true,” the source said. “If it were an unhealthy pattern of behavior, that’s cause for alarm, but that does not seem to be the case here.”

Following his release from AEW, Miguel posted a statement to X.

Miguel was noticeably absent from The Rascalz’s debut in a backstage segment on last Saturday’s taped episode of AEW Collision. Zachary Wentz, Dezmond Xavier, and Myron Reed were all present.
