Fightful Select has reported that Samoa Joe is currently in AEW’s concussion protocol, confirming a story that broke during the 2/4 edition of Dynamite.
On the show, it was announced that the former AEW World Champion sustained a “non-contact injury” and was not cleared for in-ring competition following a match against “Speeball” Mike Bailey on January 21.
Joe’s reign as World Champion came to an end at Worlds End, dropping the title to MJF a Four-Way Match before he and his Opps teammates lost the World Trios Championship on the 1/17 edition of AEW Collision.
While no further details were provided on the severity of the injury, it was noted that plans involving Joe at the top of the card were adjusted, with Andrade El Idolo now being factored in.
There is no timetable on Samoa Joe’s AEW return as of this writing.
