Pat McAfee doesn’t think a return to WWE is supposed to happen right now, feels a bit passed by

It appears that Pat McAfee returning to WWE is not going to happen anytime soon.

During an Q&A on his Instagram on Sunday evening, McAfee said that he does not feel like a return to WWE is something that is supposed to happen right now. He also said that he feels like the business has passed him up a bit, further stating WWE is in a good spot without him.

“Will I be returning to the WWE in the future? I don’t think you ever say never, you know, especially with the WWE. But right now, it does not feel like it is something that’s supposed to happen,” McAfee said. “It feels like that business has kind of passed me by a little bit. I grew up loving it, dreamed to work in it, feel honored that I had the opportunity to work alongside the GOAT Michael Cole. But I feel like WWE is in a good spot without me, and I’ll continue to watch.”

In July 2025, McAfee announced he has has taken a temporary step back from WWE due to burnout from his very busy schedule, which included WWE, his Pat McAfee show, which airs daily and his commitments to ESPN for college football broadcasts. McAfee also said that he needed to step away from WWE to make more time for his family and get needed rest, as he began experiencing mental and physical exhaustion from what felt like a never ending travel schedule.  He did make an appearance during Wrestlepalooza last September in his adopted home town of Indianapolis.

McAfee is set to star opposite Stallone in four episodes of the Paramount+ show, “Tulsa King.” McAfee also is set to play a drill instructor in the new upcoming Netflix film “The Mosquito Bowl.”

He and his wife Samantha revealed on social media last November they are expecting their second child.
